About this listing
After designing & living in our rainforest house in this wonderful location for 10 years, our growing family determined it was sadly time to move on. We now offer our guests the chance to experience the wonderful lifestyle we loved so much!
Architect's own unique tropical holiday home in Cairns. Enjoy the beautiful natural breezes & views, both of the rainforest & to the city lights.
Entering Raintree Place is like entering a cool sanctuary from the tropical heat & light. Large trees overhang the small street, providing enormous shade & surrounded by the beautiful green of the forest.
This house embodies the concept of the indoor-outdoor lifestyle that tropical locations are so suited to. Watch the scrub turkeys & guinea fowls parade through the yard. 5 bedroom 3 bathroom rainforest home located in quiet leafy close, in prestigious & beautiful Edge Hill.
5 mins walk to Cairns famous botanic gardens, 3 mins walk to coffee shops, bakery, restaurants, delicatessen, 10 mins walk to Whitfield Conservation Park, rainforest walking tracks & Centenary Lakes. 7 mins bike ride to esplanade or 12 mins to CBD. 5km to airport.
Enjoy a stroll down to the Sunday morning monthly markets in Collins Avenue, or to any of the numerous music & arts events at the Tanks Arts Centre, which run throughout the year.
Many tour boats depart daily for the Great Barrier Reef from the Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal, which is 5km from our home. The World heritage listed Daintree & Cape Tribulation rainforests are located about 1.25hours drive north. Port Douglas is 50 minutes north, the charming Atherton Tablelands an hour west, & the beautiful Mission Beach region 1.5 hours south.
For those feeling adventurous, try the 50 minute round trip walk from Raintree Place up to the Red Arrow walking track, which offers some spectacular views of the city & surrounds, as well as some possible closer interaction with the local wildlife. Fitter guests might even take on the Blue Arrow track, which will add 45 minutes to your walk, & snakes along the top of the Mount Whitfied Range.
For those feeling less active, the fruit salad waffles with a glass of Champagne or cappuccino for breakfast in the Flecker Botanic Gardens Cafe, a 10 minute walk away, is hard to resist.
Ceiling fans & abundant louvres are included in all rooms. There is also a 2 car garage. Priced to accommodate 10 people comfortably, but will take up to 14 at additional cost. However, local council by laws prevent us from accommodating groups of 7 or more unrelated people, & booking through this site warrants that your group falls within this requirement.
Unforgettable holiday experience!
Please note, the furniture shown in the photographs has been replaced with new and additional furniture items, the artwork has been changed , & new flyscreens & venetian blinds have been installed. Other than these alterations, the property is as represented in the photographs.
Guests have access to the entire house.
We do not live at the property & generally do not meet guests unless by prior arrangement.
We do caution that the house is located in a tropical rainforest environment. Summers can be warm & wet, & insects such as ants, flies, mosquitoes (outside) beetles and maybe even a cockroach (hopefully not) may all be encountered. All of these are part of everyday life in the tropics, particularly in summer. None are dangerous and insect spray will usually prevent itchy bites when sitting outside. Good food and waste hygeine and disposal such as placing scraps in tied plastic bags & put in downstairs bins promptly will reduce chances of insects such as ants. If you require airconditioning, or if the prospect of encountering some insects worries you, unfortunately our house won't be suitable for you.
Hope this helps your stay.
Guests have access to the entire house. Standard prices are based on sleeping in the 2 queen sized and 3 double beds provided, however we do have additional single beds available at charge if required to suit your preferred sleeping arrangements.
Interaction with Guests
We do not live at the property & will rarely meet guests other than for providing any urgent assistance.
Raintree Place itself is quite unique. It is a real hidden treasure within Edge Hill, which is a leafy blue chip inner city suburb. The entry at the top of Pease Street, as the road narrows down & curves past the large Raintree, Terminalia & Quandong trees, heralds the arrival to a noticeably cooler, shadier & quieter sanctuary.
Within very short walking distance are cafes, restaurants, shops, walking trails & the famed Flecker Botanic Gardens.
Public transport is available at the bottom of the hill on Collins Avenue.
Parties & loud or raucous gatherings are prohibited. The house is located in a quiet street where noise travels very easily, particularly at night.
Guests at the house who have not been clearly identified in initial booking are not permitted.
The property is unfenced & located in natural rainforest, & is not suitable for pets of any description.
Breach of these requirements may result in visitors being asked to leave.
Our advertised price is based on 2 people sleeping in each double or queen bed, of which there are 4 upstairs & 1 down. Because we can cater for up to 14 people with additional double bunk bed, fold out bed, & mattresses, we can also offer bedding arrangements where people do not have to share double beds if required, however bedding required surplus to numbers of guests is charged at $15/bed/night. For example, the house can accommodate 9 people all sleeping in separate beds, however the additional 4 beds attract additional cost.
It is a Cairns Council requirement that guest groups staying at our house cannot be made up of 7 or more unrelated guests (by blood, marriage or adoption), & booking through this site specifically warrants that your group complies with this requirement.
Our stay at Architect's Tropical Treehouse was perfect. What a beautiful setting and Rebecca and Greg made sure our stay was comfortable and homely. Small touches made our travel easy and they were quick to respond with any issues we had or to provide information regarding the area. The area was perfect for a morning run through the Botanical gardens, a beautiful start to the day but was close to the city to be among the action when we required it. Furthermore the restaurants and shops at the end of the street were of high quality that we felt we didn't need to travel into town every night. We would highly recommend a stay at the Architect's Tropical Treehouse.

Staying in the Tropical Treehouse was definitely a unique travelling experience for us as it is truly set within the tropical rainforest. Between the small geckos delighting our children at night, the playful nocturnal (and noisy) brush turkeys, and the recurrent sound of rain bouncing off the roof, we knew we were in northern Queensland. The house was very well equipped and we cooked meals there most nights. The property is very close to the Cairns Botanical gardens, which was a delightful place for a morning run or afternoon stroll. All of our communications with Rebecca and Greg were via email and we did not have any special need to contact them during our stay. Overall, we would recommend this home to any family wishing to base themselves in Cairns. The only negative feedback we have relates to the overall cleanliness and the internet. As we stayed at the end of the tourist season, it was probably natural that the place needed a good, deep clean. Unlike other reviewers we did not have any issue with bugs. Internet access was problematic, as the mobile broadband service required an Australian credit card to set up. Our suggestion to Rebecca and Greg would be to charge an extra few dollars to each guest and provide free WiFi, like most other properties we have stayed at during our travels. That being said - this is still a great place to stay and we do recommend it!
Excellent and spacious place to stay , close to everything. We really enjoyed the stay. Plenty of supplies provided including utensils, towels, tissues etc. Would definitely recommend for a stay. Things that need improvement include pest control and free internet connection.
Fantastic experience，we six all enjoy our stay, the house is shown as the pictures, clean, seperate and also the rainforest enviroment is great
It has a good location, the supermarket is about 5mins drive,we do BBQ outside
R&G are very very friendly, they made us check in earlier, and we will choose the house again when we come again, thank you Greg
It's beautiful experience to wake up by the songs of birds and smell of flowers and rain tree, the charming house make 12 of us find comfort and adventure at the same time, it's amazing to live by the botanic garden, the neighbor here is welcoming too, gave us a lot of advise about Cairns. Greg and Rebecca are very much helpful to organize a very big guide about house and community, and give us early checkin and late checkout, it helped us a lot, thank you again!
A nice house in a good location. Grocery stores and bottle shops within walking distance. I rented this house out for three nights with a number of friends in early January 2015. There is plenty of room with numerous double beds and three bathrooms, all very comfortable. The kitchen is well set up and the living space upstairs is well laid out and very social. The street and neighborhood is relatively quite so loud noise or parties in the evening won't be tolerated. All in all a good pad for a reasonable size group and I would stay here again happily.
