About this listing
Come to Woodhaven! My fully-furnished 2-BR Catskills cabin is situated only 90 miles from Manhattan in Sullivan County. It's close to Bethel Woods, lakes, a ski park, hiking, water rafting, a casino, antique stores, and farmers' markets.
My fully-furnished cabin, Woodhaven, rests on a half-acre lot in the artsy lake community of Smallwood (so there are other cottages within view of mine). It is adorned by mature maples and hemlocks--and also by cardinals, squirrels and deer. A hammock, front porch, outdoor patio, firepit, and BBQ grill complete the outdoor experience.
Inside, restored pinewood throughout suffuses the cabin with coziness and warmth. Features and amenities include recessed lighting, ceiling fans, microwave, dishwasher, DVD player, VCR, movie and music collection, Internet/Wi-Fi, and a handful of the basic network TV channels. Built-in beds and dressers accentuate the cabin's practical design, and Roche-Bobois living room furniture makes it comfortable.
The space is best for a couple, a small family, or a few friends. The master bedroom has a queen-size bed, the 2nd bedroom has a twin built-in bed, and the foyer/living room has a twin built-in bed.
Watch the 90-second film "Come to Woodhaven, a Romantic Catskills Cabin" on a very popular video site.
Guests will access the cabin through a set of keys contained in a key box hanging from the front door, retrievable by a code. Arrival and departure times are very flexible, provided no other guests are scheduled right next to your visit. ONLY IF there is a guest immediately before or after you, arrival is usually after 2pm, and departure is usually before 11am.
Interaction with Guests
I do not live at the cabin, but I am readily accessible via email and phone.
If you can pull yourself away from the comforts of my cabin Woodhaven, you'll have lots to do both in Smallwood and in Sullivan County. Inside Smallwood, you're just a five-minute walk from Minnie Falls and the Forest Reserve at Smallwood, containing over a hundred acres of open meadows, woods and creeks. Also, take a gorgeous walk around Smallwood Lake, which is about a 10-minute walk from the cabin. In summertime, swim at your choice of 2 lakes/beaches, one of them, Toronto Reservoir, as stunningly beautiful and isolated as a nature preserve. (The Smallwood Civic Board does not allow rental guests staying less than one month to access the Smallwood Beach, but trust me, the Toronto Reservoir Beach is FAR preferable.)
Outside Smallwood, you're just a short drive away from excellent Catskills hiking, Bethel Woods (the site of Woodstock 1969), a splendid winery, white-water rafting, horseback riding, petting farms, golf courses, farmers' markets and home-baked goods, a saloon/distillery with full lunch and dinner menu and live music, antique stores and flea markets, a casino, and a ski and fun park.
You really need a car to get around, unless you opt to take a taxi from the Monticello bus station, or take a summertime bus to the entrance of Smallwood (about 1-1.5 miles from my cabin). A Short Line bus comes to Monticello (6 miles from cabin) from Port Authority for about $30 one-way. A NJ Transit train comes to Middletown, NY, (about 30 minutes from cabin) from Penn Station for about $20. The closest store to my cabin is a general store/restaurant in Smallwood (15 minute walk).
