I am pleased to write a review on behalf of Judy Weseman, my host for a weeklong stay in Chapel Hill, NC over the Christmas holidays. Judy could not have been more thoughtful--several coffee filters left on the counter and a roll of paper towels, for example, were readily available. As for the studio apartment, again, perfectly well appointed, with a queen-sized bed, several lounging chairs, TV, a large walk-in shower, and a fully functional work kitchen. The room looks out across the yard and down into the woods on the other side. The wonderfully quiet dwelling is located off of one of the main roads in Chapel Hill, with restaurants, coffee house, and locally owned bookstore all within a half mile. If you enjoy walking, you will find the jogging/walking greenway nearly most enjoyable. In addition, the local bus system--free!--stops at the bottom of the hill where the restaurants, etc are located. A walk into the heart of Chapel Hill will probably take 15-20 minutes. I would definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to friends who are planning on a visit to the charming university town.
Judy is an excellent host! She was very welcoming and gave great pointers on the area to help make my relocation easier. She even left baked goods for me a few times during my stay!
The studio is comfortable and very private. It had everything one would expect in terms of a kitchenette stocked with dishes, small appliances (microwave, toaster, coffee maker), and utensils. The place was very clean and quiet while being centrally located in the Chapel Hill area. I highly recommend Judy's studio for anyone looking for a comfortable, quiet, and welcoming place to stay in Chapel Hill. It was so ideal for me, I will be returning after the holidays and staying for a month! Thanks, Judy!!
Judy made us feel quite welcome with the excellent directions and good planning. She even made us home-made gluten free muffins. The studio is quiet, well-appointed and in a very safe and beautiful neighborhood. We enjoyed her hospitality and she even let me borrow some spices for cooking our Thanksgiving quiche. Definitely stay here if you are looking for a convenient and lovely retreat during your stay in Chapel Hill.
Since we were only there a few short days for the Thanksgiving holiday we did not get a chance to explore the suggestions for activities and hikes that Judy recommended. She is very house-proud and her attention to her detail shows in many of the ways that she helps her guests feel welcome.
Judy's place is very well situated in a quiet place about a mile from the UNC campus. The walk is gorgeous, particularly during the fall color season. She is a very gracious and informative host.
Judy was a phenomenal host! She made us feel welcome (with yummy pumpkin bread) and at home from the moment we arrived on her property. Her studio apartment was welcoming, clean, and had all the amenities one would need - full kitchen, internet, cable, parking, and great accessibility to all the Chapel Hill/Carrbaro attractions. I traveled with my 9 month old and Judy went out of her way to gather various toys and a little walker for my son which was a lifesaver for us and kept him occupied and happy. She was very willing to provide recommendations on good hiking, areas attractions and great restaurants. We will definitely stay with Judy again in the future! Thanks so much!
Judy was a fantastic host to my girlfriend and I and we hope to stay with her when we next come to the triangle. Nestled in a beautiful forest, the little apartment by the side of Judy's home has a great patio and is just steps from beautiful nature paths. We enjoyed our morning walks through the forest to an amazing local coffee shop, where we would also sometimes go to get a glass of wine in the evening. If you stay with Judy you'll get to see lots of deer!
The location is perfect for anyone working at UNC - Chapel Hill. There is very convenient (and free) bus service, although we had a car on our trip so generally used that. Trader Joe's and Whole Foods are a short drive, although there are local markets that are also very good. As for the apartment itself, I thought the bed was very comfortable, the AC kept things very temperate (I never felt hot in the apartment), and the shower was big and had good water pressure! There are two good-sized closets, which would definitely be enough for one person or two normal people, but if you're coming with a ton of clothes or shoes you might want to bring an under-bed storage unit (or invest $20 in getting one from Bed Bath and Beyond).
Judy is a very respectful host who struck the balance perfectly between giving us space and attention/advice/support. She had great recommendations on where to go in the area, including local restaurants, markets, nearby towns, and even places to go in the greater Carolinas! On occasion, she gave us food she had made, including some of the best brownies I've ever had and pesto, which was also incredible and made from basil from Judy's own garden. At the same time, my girlfriend and I felt that we had privacy and Judy's hosting never felt over-wrought.
My stay in Judy's studio was everything I had hoped it would be! The studio is just perfect and well supplied. The efficiency kitchen has a full size refrigerator and stove/oven/microwave, so if you like to prepare some of your meals this is the place. The bed looks out the three large windows, which overlook the abundant trees and birdsong in the front yard and surrounding area. It's like being in a luxurious tree house, the neighborhood is amazing. Judy's description of the studio is spot-on. It was a pleasure sitting on the porch talking with Judy and sharing our interests. She is a very kind, bright, thoughtful and energetic host. Would definitely stay again!
We've been residents of Chapel Hill since 1994 and love to share the many things we love about both the town and the area with you. The owners are avid outdoors-folks and can guide you to the trails, bike and running clubs, and parks. We are also involved in the arts including the many cultural activities on the nearby UNC campus. And a favorite activity is a short walk from our house on Mt. Bolus Bike Path to Cafe Driade which is adjacent to the trail. We have traveled all over the world and have brought many ideas from our travels into the studio to ensure your comfort and happiness. Come see us soon!
