The Bungalow was gorgeous, the staff was nice, particularly Eduardo who spoke perfect english and helped organize everything for me.
It rained for me but the view was still great and the sleep was. The food was a bit pricey for the quality but the staff nice. I didn't get a 4x4 but got full insurance on a small car and that helped.
There is a shuttle a few times a day too for a few dollars.
Eduardo was a wonderful host! We loved staying in the bungalow. I was clean and the breakfast was delicious. Staff was friendly and accommodating. We only wish we could have stayed longer!
Castillo Del Arenal is a fine 3 star hotel. The rooms are clean and included a private fridge with hot showers. Each room has a balcony with a great view of the volcano, the best part of the hotel. The hotel has a common space with a pool table and hot tub. The staff was friendly and breakfast was included. The area is more secluded than staying in La Fortuna which means you won't get the best paved roads. The roads to the area the hotel is in are rocky but not horrible. We had a 4x drive which helped. We drove to the hotel one evening and it was fine. Our only negative experience was the dinner at the hotel. The ceviche was excellent but the steak and seafood soufflé was over priced and over cooked. It was one of the more expensive meals we had in Costa Rica and by far one of the worst. They also didn't offer anything when we said the food was not good. We would recommend staying at the hotel but eating at the Soda down the street. We had lunch at the soda the next day and the pork chops was so much better than the steak at the hotel and half the price.
nice little place with a nice view on the arenal volcano...you can do a lot of activities around but I definitely recommend the zip lining. It was by far the most exciting thing I've done. Other activities that we have done: horse back riding to the arenal national park, hiking and a visit to the reptile zoo.
Tres bon accueil,le personnel se plie en quatre pour satisfaire le client et toujours avec le sourire!
La propreté est remarquable,le site insolite avec de très belles activités. A recommander pour les amateurs de nature.
The cabinas were cozy and had very hot water, which was welcome after a cold rainy day. The beds are comfortable, a rarity in Costa Rica! All of the staff members were extremely nice and accommodating. I'd highly recommend NOT driving there after sunset... just don't do it. It's about 10km/ 6miles of rough, potholed, curvy dirt road (about a 25 minute drive in itself!), it's dark and there are a few sketchy bridges you don't want to fall off! We knew this hotel was "off the beaten path" but we had no idea just how true that was. We would have stayed at a larger Hot Springs kind of resort if we had known... BUT we are glad we got the chance to see this tiny place with a gorgeous view! The absolute best part was the restaurant- Fusion!! This place is worth the terrible drive for sure. I've been in CR for a year and it's the best pizza I've had in this country!! It's very affordable and delicious, making that awful trek you just made worth your while.
These are really no-frills cabins, with just the necessities available. It's fantastic for those going to the nearby Skywalks/ Rafting/ Ziplines, but not the best for anyone looking for pampering or romance.
My advice: Stay here if you're in town for adventure and getting muddy, cold, and wet... it's great for a hot shower and warm bed! Bring a headlamp! Since I live in CR, my headlamp lives in my car and thank goodness it does... this place is sooooo dark at night you can't walk the 30' to your cabin or see to get your key in the door. Make sure you eat here! It's probably the cheapest and definitely the best food around!
The only little weird part is that in their guidebook in the cabin, they list each and every item's cost, meaning that if you break their tv, it's $250, steal a pillow it's $25, fridge, towels, sheets, etc, etc. This makes me think they are frequented by a bunch of frat guys partying and breaking things all night, to the point that the hotel finds it necessary to warn guests of the costs up front... and that makes me worry. There were no issues when we were there so I don't know. There was some loud party music you can hear from across the ravine which isn't the hotel's fault.
Beautiful place and really friendly and helpful staff! Would certainly recommend but would highly recommend having your own means of transportation as it gets pricey if you're relying on taxis and shuttles.
