PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE LISTING BEFORE REQUESTING A BOOKING! I get emails all the time asking me questions that are CLEARLY answered here. If you can't take five minutes to read this before booking, then how can I trust that you will respect my home? Please read carefully before asking any questions - chances are, I've already answered them here!
NO reservations will be accepted with less than 72 hours notice (even if the calendar says we're available). For example, if you want to arrive on Friday, you have to book by 2:00pm on Tuesday at the latest. NO EXCEPTIONS FOR ANY REASON. You would be floored at how many people email me asking to arrive later the same day, and then are furious when I'm not willing to give up my privacy and comfort for their lack of planning. We are not a hotel. We are a friendly couple opening our home to other friendly people who'd like to see Chicago.
Keep in mind that just because the calendar says the place is open doesn't necessarily guarantee that we can host. I don't have time to update the listing every time I make plans to be out of the house. It's easy - just request a booking and we'll approve it if we're available! :-) I do my best to respond within a couple hours.
Please please please read our booking terms listed with our booking. Our rates are clearly stated to be $30 per night for one person, and currently we can only accommodate one guest at a time. We have a STRICT cancellation policy which means that if you book and then cancel, you will lose some or all of your money (50% refund if you cancel more than 7 days in advance, 0 refund if you cancel with less than 7 days.) Please don't book if you're not sure, but also understand that we cannot hold the reservation until you have booked.
Our check-in time is clearly stated as 2:00. If arriving earlier, you may drop off stuff here and then head out to explore. If you plan on arriving and actually hanging out here prior to 2:00, you will be charged for an extra half day.
You are staying in our living room. We'll be here too. There is only one bathroom.
Okay, now that all the boring stuff is out of the way...
This is the perfect place for travelers who plan to be out and about much of the time and just need a place to sleep and leave your stuff!
This is a huge and spacious, super-authentic vintage Chicago 3-flat. We are on the second floor and have 10-foot ceilings, huge windows that let in lots of light, a large back deck and decent-sized backyard.
You'll be staying on our super-comfy sofa in the living room, which we can partition off with a curtain for privacy if you prefer. You're welcome to use some fridge space as well to keep some groceries and save on eating out. Keep in mind that you are staying in our living room - the home of the only television in the house, a place we normally like to hang out - so if you're going to be around the house all day this probably isn't the best place for you. If you're going to be out exploring Chicago for most of the day, this will work great (and has for many people here to see the city).
If you will have a car, we have tons of really easily available street parking. If you're on foot, we live less than two blocks from the 70 Division bus and less than four blocks from the 72 North bus, both of which will connect you to downtown and most of the trains in 15-20 minutes. We are also about 3/4 mile from the Blue line train (Western Ave stop). This is a great location if you want to get into downtown quickly and easily, but want to sleep where it's quieter and less hectic. (By the way, please let us know if you need help finding the best route via public transportation - don't be like the couple who tried to do it themselves, took a bad route, got lost on the way, and then complained in their review that we were a long walk from public transportation. Transit will, in reality, get you within two blocks of our house if you come the correct route.)
We have three very friendly cats, so this is not the place for you if you're allergic. We are also a non-smoking home - you may smoke on our back porch as long as you completely clean up after yourself, but absolutely no smoking inside.
My husband and I have lived in Chicago for 12 years, and will do our best to provide directions, recommendations of things to do, and other city info. Keep in mind that we both work and will do our best to accommodate your questions and needs around our busy schedules.
Tobi was a wonderful host - the stay was exactly as I hoped.
Her home is nicely decorated and surprisingly large, the sofa was comfy for the night and the cats were very friendly but she kept them in another room so they didn't bother me for food early in the morning. Tobi was charming company and very generous.
I travelled by the blue line subway, from which it was a moderate walk - I don't mind a walk - but in the morning it was raining so I took the bus which is only a couple of blocks away.
Many thanks Tobi, it was a pleasure meeting you!
Tobi's apartment is beautiful, the couch is comfortable, the three cats are adorable, and she and her husband are friendly hosts. She offered me water and coffee as soon as I arrived :) The neighborhood is a good area to explore, and close to lots of other great places too!
Awesome location near Wicker Park, Public transit options are Awesome
Easy check in /check out
We had a good stay with Tobi. The apartment is very comfortable, complete with 3 very cute cats. We walked there from the metro station, possible but not fun with lots of bags! But we found it a good place to stay for an overnight stay.
Tobi and Josh were friendly and immediately made us feel comfortable in their home. The accommodation was just as described and Tobi very helpful, making all communiction and planning quick and easy. We had a wonderful stay!
Tobi & Josh were outstanding hosts, both musicians so what can you expect? Great spot for both roadtrippers and anyone navigating public trans especially terrific if Wicker Park is high on your list of places to be. So easy, yet away from the commotion of being right there in the heart of it all. I'll definitely stay again and the cats are super cute and well behaved. This coming from a dog person.
Tobi and Josh are wonderful hosts-they opened their home to me like I was an old friend. They are warm, engaging and hospitable. I really enjoyed my time there. I highly recommend!
I had to change my plans at the last minute, but Tobi was completely understanding and accommodating. I'm sure she would have been a wonderful host- maybe next time!
