Interaction with Guests
We enjoy welcoming people and helping them enjoy their holiday. Sometimes this means offering them a glass of wine or tea, hearing their plans, making suggestions for dinner, cycle routes etc. If you would like dinner with us on a Friday, Michel cooks amazing 3 course meals with wine included, 22€. Just request this on booking. I have a separate part of the house for myself so we don't need to bump into each other but often a glass of wine together at the end of the day is welcome.
I work full time as an English teacher in the village secondary and middle school. Arrivals normally around 6pm but I will always accommodate differences where possible. PLEASE, no arrivals after 9pm unless under exceptional circumstances or with pre agreement.
The village is beautiful. I look out onto a stone square with other 400-600 year old buildings as neighbours. My stunning view is onto the 1,000 year old abbey/private chateau and gardens. We are surrounded by fields of sunflowers in summer, vineyards. The village goat's cheese shop is amazing. We have 3 wine makers in the village alone! I like to hang out at the pizzeria. Excellent deserts as well.
You really need a car here. There are buses to Montrichard and to Blois but the car is the easiest and most flexible. Montrichard is 8km so cyclable and once there you can catch regular trains to Paris, Tours, Blois, Amboise. Michel hires out Dutch touring bikes very reasonably. Just request one and give us your height. See my website for details of prices or request on booking.
Other Things to Note
Local cinema is excellent for arty films. The beach at Montrichard is real sand by the river and is great fun for boating and swimming in. Cycling though is the best activity because the countryside is so beautiful and flat.

Please be careful with use of electricity, remember to switch off lights etc. Young children/babies welcome in the appartment by special arrangement. A spare single bed lives in the bedroom. Remember, please let me know in advance of your arrival time. If there are 3 of you, please click on 'extra guest' on booking as there is an additional charge of 15€.
library area for guests well stocked with english and french novels, guide books of local towns and chateaux, art books, travel books and plenty of useful maps for cycling, walking and driving around the Loire Valley.
Excellent ! If you are searching for a nice place, charming and confortable, don't hesitate. Michèle and Michel are very welcoming. We had a really good time. The place was clean, we liked the private bathroom and kitchen.
We loved our stay at Michelle's home. Pontelvoy is a fantastic hidden gem. Michelle was so thoughtful and made us dinner reservations at a great restaurant for dinner the evening of our arrival. The room is very spacious. We loved opening the windows and waking up to the sound of rain. We found a lot of fun during our stay and great lunch next door at Le Commerce. The locals were very friendly. We wished we could have stayed a week.
We were a bit unfortunate in that our host could not be there to welcome us. She had left us instructions on where to find the key and let ourselves in and find our way to the room (which we did). After 10 or so hours travelling it was a bit of a hassle to find our own way around not helped by the local restaurants either being closed or full. So things did not get off to the best of starts.
Everything was a lot easier when we met Michele the next morning and had sorted what we needed to do for breakfast.
The bedroom is excellent, very large, clean and with a massive comfortable bed, better than the picture. Even has air conditioning. Everything you could hope for.
As other people have said the place is very quiet opposite a small square with table and chairs. After a long day touring round a local chateau it was brilliant chilling out there with a book and a cold glass of wine or beer taking in the last rays of sun.
Pontlevoy is a very attractive village, with one very good restaurant (you need to book!), a bakery but not much else. Nearby Montrichard proved to be an excellent place to visit in the evenings.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay with Michele

About the Host, Michele
My name is Michele and until 8 years ago I was busy in Kent teaching violin to primary school children. I started the restoration of the house 7 years ago and opened 5 years ago as a b&b/hostel enjoying enormously the contact with all the guests that have passed through the house. The house is 400 years old and has taken a lot of time and energy and passion to restore. It now has all the original features of tiled floors and wooden beams but with modern power showers and central heating. The house is a social centre for the community as it was previously owned by a celebrated photographer and is opposite the abbey that runs degree courses and is populated by students during peak seasons. My children are mostly off travelling and studying in London. I have brought up 3 children and worked in London as a Music Therapist for 12 years.
My partner is French but speaks Spanish and Dutch and English and can occasionally be persuaded to cook and when he does it is WONDERFUL. Sadly my beautiful dog Nelson has gone back to his roots to a family in UK but I still have my cat, Hector.
In the 4 years of running the b&b things have gone from strength to strength. It seems that the house chooses the people although the guests think they have chosen the house! The first year of opening I had a trickle of guests, all very kind and appreciative but still a trickle. The second year I had plenty of psychiatrists, a life coach, a Buddhist retreat group, born again Christians and ordinary arty types. It seemed that the house chose the people necessary to guide me through my then, turbulent love life! The 3rd year with love life calm and happy the house attracted photographers, cooks, stylists, writers, followers of the Tour de France, flower arrangers, musicians etc etc. I was often fully booked and with the plumbing at full stretch I had a retired couple stay for 2 weeks from Australia who got chateaued out and went round fixing up all the necessary odd jobs! This fourth year was almost fully booked throughout the whole season and we are now entering the beginning of the 5th year. I received many more Parisians last year and even some returning guests. Wassim from Paris returned with his whole extended family! I had musicians from Orleans, photographers from Australia, several website designers, language students, delightful musicians etc etc.
My one regret from this last year is that people didn't stay for longer. Often guests left wishing they'd booked for longer, which wasn't always possible with me being fully booked. My house continues to be a magnet for independent, creative people who are looking for something extra from their holiday and when there is a connection of like minds, it's a shame not to be able to build on this. Stay open-minded when you book! The unexpected (always good) can happen!
What can I tell you about me? I like meeting people. It is my pleasure to run this b&b and to meet people from all over the world, to speak French and to listen to what people want from their holiday.
If you want to exhibit your art here? Ask. This is something I tried out last year and sold 3 photos. But I hadn't properly sorted out prices and prints and know that I could do better next year.
The excellent up right piano has attracted pianists and singers who want to keep rehearsing and that suits me fine. I LOVE to hear the music in the house and if you are keen to rehearse with me on violin, then I would love that to.
Life motto? For me the b&b has given me the privilege of seeing so many different people. So I guess from personal experience, I think its important to be happy. Simple but takes a lot of courage to implement.
I can't live without decent coffee, plenty of hot water, music and delicious food. Oh and interesting people are certainly a plus. I like to meet people who live or think outside of the box. I guess, if you're struggling in life, you're welcome here! And if you're successful, you're also welcome! because I like to learn from people's lifestyles and choices.
Last year's obsession was Paul Coehlo books...I have them all here if you want to borrow them...More recently I have started writing again. Last book I read was a re-read of 'Life, Love Pray'.
Now teaching English full time in the village secondary school and Sambin middle school so am here ALL year round now to welcome guests.
Brand new this year Michel, my partner is offering to cook for guests on Fridays. He was a chef for many years and LOVES to cook for people. We started this year with informally inviting guests to eat with us and had very positive feedback, so if you would like dinner when you arrive, please request this on booking.
