Drift San Jose is located in the heart of San Jose del Cabo's Art District, only one block from the cathedral and main plaza. San Jose is a traditional Mexican colonial town - with a contemporary gallery, live music and food scene. Famous for the Thursday night Art Walk and Saturday morning Organic Farmers Market. We are central to the best restaurants, bars, shops, galleries and cafes. A nearby trail follows the estuary and bird sanctuary, ending at the beach approx 20 minutes away.
We are perfectly situated for real Baja adventure. Explore the desert, mountains, ranches and miles of beautiful empty beaches. Popular day trips include the East Cape for surfing (30 min), Santiago for hiking, hot springs and waterfall (45 min) Todos Santos for surfing and great organic food scene (60 min), Cabo Pulmo for world class diving (90 min), Las Ventanas for kite surfing (2 hours) or La Paz to visit the spectacular Balandra Bay or Isla Espiritu Santo for kayaking or swimming with whale sharks (2 hours).
Popular nearby beaches accessible by taxi, car or bus are the beach at Ganzo Beach Club (5 min), La Playita (10 min), Costa Azul for surfing (15 min), Palmilla for swimming or SUP (15 min), Chileno for swimming or snorkeling (20 min), Medano Beach in Cabo San Lucas (30 min).
San Jose del Cabo is in the municipality of Los Cabos, 20 minutes south of Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) and 30 minutes East of the city of Cabo San Lucas.
-TAXIS can always be found downtown, usually in the main plaza, in front of the Cathedral, 1.5 block from Drift. From the airport there are both Taxis (approx $65) and shuttles (approx $15 per person) available to bring you downtown San Jose. Return fare back to the airport by taxi is approximately $20.
-RENTAL CARS can be found at the airport or or various rental agencies in San Jose. We recommend our guests rent a car or 4x4 if they want to explore the many beaches and sites outside of downtown San Jose. We like National Rental Car (office located two blocks from Drift) and have asked them to offer our guests a special all-in package rate including taxes and insurance if they mention they are staying at Drift. This rate depends on type of car and time of year and we cannot guarantee this rate or offer any other information in regards to renting a car.
-BUSES many of our guests have great luck getting around by the many different buses in and around San Jose. We do not have specific or detailed information, schedules or routes for the buses.

Our stay at Drift was very pleasant. When we arrive we were met by Angel, who was awesome. The hotel has a beautiful minimalist rustic aesthetic, airy and open. We were lucky enough to have timed our stay to have experienced 2 tequila & mezcal tastings, the food truck, art walk and the farmer's market. The hotel has just the right amount of amenities with a communal vibe, yet with areas of privacy and retreat like the outdoor terraces and the rooftop garden. Later on in the week the activities and music fizzled down a bit which made for a nice relaxing end to our stay. We got to lounge by the pool and bask the warm sun. I'm very happy I got to experience this awesome place.
This place is amazing! They design and layout is so unique. We had a group of about 8 friends that stayed here, so it was nice having everyone together in the common areas. The staff was super nice and helpful with any questions we had. Loved the common kitchen area and the free coffee and OJ in the mornings. We only stayed there for one night, wished we would have stayed longer.
We were greeted at the gate by Angel, who was warm and friendly and who gave us a complete tour. We were immediately made to feel welcome and at home. Drift is in a corner of the historic art district. The neighborhood is full of art galleries, fantastic restaurants, and friendly people. Walking and riding the bikes were enough transportation to see the whole town.
Drift was everything I thought it would be. And somehow even better. Stu's gorgeous oasis in San Jose is the perfect jumping off point in Baja for solo travelers, groups of friends, or really, anyone who appreciates a space that is thoughtfully and simply designed, gorgeous, with a focus on being communal. (Yet still private enough to relax and find solitude.) Easy to get to, yet hard to find in the best way possible. Angel (who greeted us and helped us throughout our stay) put a smile on our faces every time we saw him -- especially when he had Churros in hand to share. Stu was always around to share local tips and a laugh. The other travelers staying at Drift were so easy to get along with. San Jose is really charming. I miss Clara (the dog) already and we made some friends to keep in touch with. I'm already trying to figure out when I can make my return trip.
We have nothing but great things to say about Drift and the all the staff members. The place is an oasis for explorers and San Jose del Cabo is a fantastic location for people looking to explore authentic Mexico without feeling overwhelmed by tourists like in Cabo San Lucas. Try and stay at least three days; the location is perfect for day trips and there is so much to do in the town itself. One to two days really is not enough to explore all this area has to offer.
Having the kitchen stocked with fresh oranges for juicing and fresh ground coffee beans made morning so pleasant. It was so wonderful connecting with other like minded individuals in the morning and planning the day with the map on the wall. I'm already missing my freshly squeezed OJ. It was great being able to just help ourselves when we wanted.
Sunsets on the rooftop and pre-dinner chat by the fire are a must. The staff was incredibly helpful and warm in their interactions. It was very evident that our experience was important to them. Stu also hosted an Amazing Tequila/Mescal Tasting for the guest and I highly recommend for you to inquire about it.
Can't wait to come back again.
