  • I stayed in Paul's apartment with a group of 5 people during the World Cup. We had a pretty mixed experience there though I did find Paul and especially Felipe to be overall quite nice to deal with. There were a couple instances of lack of communication between Paul and Felipe that led to some discomfort, especially at the end. Paul wanted us out of the apartment by 10 AM to allow 12 (!!) hours for his cleaning crew to finish before the other guests arrived at 10 PM, but Felipe then told us we could leave at noon. Paul of course returned the next day, angry that we had not checked out already, though it seemed to all get settled eventually.

Heres a quick breakdown of the apartment:

    Pros:
    - Fantastic rooftop deck. Paul was smart to feature this deck in all the photos and stay away from any close ups in the bedrooms or bathrooms
    - Good location close to the beach
    - Spacious enough for 5 people to fit comfortably
    - Surprisingly good wifi -- something we have not had for most of this trip

    Cons:
    - Only one small air conditioner in the main bedroom - the rest of the apartment was incredibly hot during our stay
    - Shower situation is a mess. There are wires hanging in the shower that shocked one of my friends when he was trying to figure out the hot water. Speaking of which, hot water is very hit or miss. We had to get a showerhead replaced and generally the water never got very hot -- probably typical for Salvador and nothing Paul can do about that.
    - There was a strange smell in the apartment near the kitchen for our whole stay. Not sure what that was about
    - Be careful requesting an airport transfer. Felipe's driver on the way back took a few years off our lives weaving between lanes, driving on the shoulder and narrowly missing a few pedestrians

  • Even though we didn't have the opportunity to meet Paul he was an excellent host. He informed us upfront with everything we needed to know and organized the contact to Felipe who welcomed us in Salvador at the apartment. Also Felipe was very helpful. He organized the transfer from the airport for us and was always approachable in case of questions.

Regarding the apartment I just need to say that the pictures are not lying. It is fabulous.

As we were there during the Worldcup I want to mention an initiative which Paul made us aware of. A couple of AirBnB hosts decided to donate a part of their profit to local projects. The guests were involved by having the opportunity to choose which project "their" money should go to. This was really an excellent idea.

  • Stayed at Paul's apartment for 13 nights during the world cup. Very conveniently located, just 6 minutes walk to both farol and porto do barra beaches and a 15/20 minute taxi ride to Pelourinho and Rio de Vermelho. Large supermarket is just 3 minutes away and a great little cafe called deliporto is even closer at the bottom of the road and great for breakfast. Appartment is spacious (we were a group of 5), kitchen is well provisioned but the best thing is the terrace. Great space to chill or entertain. Paul was brilliant from booking through to our time there. Great communication providing lots of useful information and very accommodating. Although he was in London at the time he took the time to stay in touch and check all was ok. Felipe his local agent is also a great guy. Always helpful and easy to contact and he speaks good English. If you're looking for a good base to explore Salvador, while staying close to the beaches I can highly reccomend.

  • We stayed at Paul's apartment for 4 nights in Salvador. Our experience was nothing but positive. Large apartment that is close the beaches and restaurants. Felipe, was our contact in Brazil and was extremely helpful. He arranged transportation to and from the airport and was very punctual.

I would strongly recommend this place if you are visiting Salvador.

  • Paul's place was amazing. Great location very close to the beach and the rooftop was great especially with the weather being warm.

Paul was an amazing host and went out of his way to make our stay enjoyable. He helped with buying tickets for Carnival and also arranged drinks on the rooftop with his local friends.

I would recommend Paul, he was so helpful and so professional. I hope to stay at one of his apartments again one day

  • Our stay was brief but enjoyable. Very nice apartment. Loved the upstairs terrace. The apartment is located in a good area of Barra. We did a lot of walking just to explore and enjoy the neighborhood. Very eclectic mix of people. Looking forward to renting again. Felipe was great and very informative. Sorry we didn't get to meet you.

About
English guy who splits his time between Brighton and Salvador. When I'm in Brazil (usually December through til March) and in Brighton (May to August) i do hosted bed and breakfasts - by hosted I mean you are treated as a house guest rather than someone staying in a guest house - you can come with me to concerts and events and join me for drinks on the terrace or in the garden. I do events and receptions for the bigger festival events like Yemanja, canival and New Year's Eve in Salvador and Brighton Festival and Pride in Brighton. Happy to introduce you to local friends and try to make your stay as great as possible. Salvador and Brighton are both amazing cities and everyone is very friendly but, like everywhere, you get more out of your stay if you stay with someone who knows the city. You are also welcome to just do your own thing or hang out on the terrace or in the garden. I have a large network of friends and contacts involved in music, arts and dance in both cities. When I'm not there II rent the flats out as self catering units but still more than happy to advise on local information, where to go and put you in contact with some local friends.
