The House Rules

Rio is a place of freedom where people come to enjoy themselves, so I encourage you to have as much fun as possible. However, there are a few things I ask:
1. When nobody is in the apartment, please turn off the lights and especially the air conditioning, to conserve electricity and save the planet.
2. The front door/gate locks automatically when you close it so it is not necessary to "double lock" it when entering or exiting.
3. Please respect the other guests.

Jake was great! He met me at the Sheraton and helped me get settled into the Airbnb. Everything was exactly as it is presented in the listing. Very comfortable and the views are amazing! It was perfect for my extended stay.

Jake was accommodating and helpful. We had a wonderful stay at the villa, it definitely captures the character of Rio, would definitely go back!

Had a great stay in Rio. Jake was a very accommodating host. Having the Sheraton across the street is nice for getting taxi's and buses. It also has a few restaurants that are open late which can be convenient. Would recommend! Had an amazing time despite the weather being subpar.

I am reluctant to write a good review because I want this apartment to be available the next time I am in Rio. This place is a hidden gem in the most expensive area of Zona Sul. It's almost surreal how beautiful the surroundings are. Close to everything, but at a distance where can get away from it all and enjoy it from afar. The mansion sits below (on) the famous "Two Brothers" mountain in a beautiful cove, surrounded by forest filled with wildlife and secluded mansions. The veranda—overlooking the Atlantic and Ipanema coastline—is perfect for early morning tanning while eating breakfast. The beach in front is a perfect alternative to the hectic scenes of Leblon and Ipanema. Transportation ie, buses, vans, taxis literally stop downstairs, but I recommend the walk to Leblon, it's short and picturesque. The neighbors are friendly and accommodating. Jake is an excellent host, if there is a need he attends to it immediately (a rarity in Rio). He goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is a pleasant one.

Jakes' apartment is accurately portrayed in the photos, that is, its good for 1-2 people (think convertible apartment), with an amazing ocean view. There is a very nice (and trustworthy) Brazilian lady that comes by to clean most days and will do your laundry for very cheap, so that was also a definite plus. The city of Rio has also finished the ciclovia from Leblon to Sao Conrado, so there is now a breathtaking walk to/from the apartment and to some neighboring areas, great for biking and running. The walk to Leblon is about 12-15 min. I was there for Carnaval and even then there was no real disturbances from other guests. Its an older place and occasionally the bathroom drains would smell bad, but both are quite normal in Rio. Although I only met Jake once, he was a very nice guy and tried his best to accommodate me under some less than ideal circumstances. Unfortunately the owner of the building was having very loud construction above my apartment, which was taking longer than expected and was out of Jake's control. When I complained, he compensated me for it fairly, so I was OK with the situation. The internet was very spotty, but we had had a couple weeks of rain, which sometimes causes internet issues in Rio. This was unfortunate and aggravating, as my business depends on me having a workable internet connection, so I ended up at Starbuck's everyday to work. All in all, it was a positive stay for what I was looking for, with a few things that could have worked out better.

I stayed at the Leblon Villa for 3 weeks. I wanted a peaceful, chilled time without any need to check in with doormen or worry about hosting visitors or dealing with nosy neighbours. At first I was disappointed because Jake did not tell me that building work was taking place. Something I think he should have mentioned. There are some new apartments being built above the existing ones and the noise was considerable. Jake was a very good host in this respect offering to refund me or put me in another apartment (although with a less dramatic sea view) very quickly. Once I decided to move he made the new apartment clean and ready in a day. I was therefore able to enjoy my stay as I hoped. The location is 15/20 minute walk down a newly laid pavement/bike track into Leblon and then Ipanema. Or you can take a bus which comes very frequently. It'a a walk that offers the most beautiful, stunning and dramatic views of Leblon and Ipanema beaches as far as the eye can see. There are local shops ten minutes in the opposite direction at the foot of Vidigal Favela and a beach within easy reach just below the towering Rio Shereton. During my stay there was glorious sunshine for 80% of the time and even on rainy days it was very hot. I felt very safe in the apartment and Jake was very helpful if any problems arose or info was needed. I think it might be an idea to give guests an info sheet of how things work in the complex and perhaps an idea of what local shops/ facilities their are. Perhaps just some basic info about how Rio works re banks/Money transfers/ good breakfast places/getting washing done /local food shopping/how to operate the TV/what to do to reboot connection failure/power cuts/toilet overflow/contact numbers etc . This is not luxury accommodation but it is a good bohemian and chilled place. I would highly recommend staying if you want somewhere with stunning views, total privacy slightly set apart form the hustle and bustle but close enough to enjoy it when you want.
