Looking for a unique Omani experience living in a fishing village? My typical Omani villa in Qantab offers 8 spacious double bedrooms with en-suite bathroom and kitchenette, you can book individually or can book a floor or the whole house! Up to you!
Unique experience for anyone looking to enjoy Oman from a Omani perspective. Quiet beautiful evenings on the roof terrace surrounded by the mountains and covered with the stars, only 15 minutes drive into Muscat, or 5 minutes drive to the Oman Dive Centre, you really cannot find a better location for your trip.
Guests have access to their studio apartment 4 of which have a small living room area along with the en-suite bathroom and kitchenette. The other 4 have en-suite bathroom with small kitchenette with no living area. All guests have shared access to the roof terrace which is slowly being built up and improved, for the moment it only offers a few chairs, table and gorgeous views so it quite basic. But the views of the village, mountains and the sea are more than enough!
Interaction with Guests
I live in Oman for 6-9 months per year and would will often be around the house or nearby in the village if I'm not on a desert camping or snorkelling trip. If I am not around there will always be friendly people nearby to help with anything you might need.
Qantab is a beautiful little fishing village. Predominantly Omani it is also a conservative area so visitors are asked to dress accordingly. The beach is beautiful but again out of respect for the community you must wear shorts and t-shirt even when swimming. If you'd like to be free to swear swimsuits you can take a 5 minute drive around the mountains to the Oman Dive Centre where you can use the beach, enjoy lunch at their restaurant or have a (email hidden).
There is no public transport, you will either need to rent your own car self-drive or with a driver. The roads in Oman are beautifully built and safe so you can drive yourself. However if you'd like to make the most of your time here I would recommend a car with a driver/guide who can take you to places and give you the local tour. If you need either please let me know and I can arrange it for you.
Other Things to Note
Ask me any questions if you're curious or have any special requests, I'm happy to answer them and share my experience and knowledge of Oman with you!
Enjoy yourself, respect the space and make the most of this beautiful location! Behave yourself in the village, many Omanis live there so being drunk in public or women walking around with short clothes is not acceptable - but just 5 minutes drive away there is the Oman Dive Centre with a beach bar, sun loungers and plenty of space to sunbath and be comfortable wearing what you want. Also 15 minutes away there is also the Capital Area Yacht Club where you can also relax and wear whatever you like and enjoy a day or relaxation or kayaking. Contact me if you'd like help planning your days or need help with transport.
We staid one night in sharif place. Sharif has been very flexible and helpful for the booking. The location is fantastic, beach at 100m, with fishes and fishermen who can drop you in many wonderful "private" beaches or for dolphin tours. Snorkelling is even possible on the beach itself. Love this place! The house is very clean, beds comfortable, someone is welcoming you and can prepare breakfast (for extra fee), tea, show you the internet and the washing machine... The house is made of 4 rooms, all occupied by guests. The atmosphere is more that of an hotel/guesthouse than a family welcoming you, but that is fine. The only point to consider is that a construction is occuring just in front of the house and is working from morning till 9pm! not very annoying but not the environment you would dream when you are so close to the sea.
We found Sharif a decent - though not completely reliable - host; we might return to his BnB. Our first email to Sharif didn't get a reply; some weeks later we heard from him after we had contacted Airbnb: "Tomorrow I will reply." Tomorrow never happened. Only many weeks later, after upon our request Airbnb had phoned him, Sharif emailed us: he didn't have the three reserved rooms but only one larger room for four people and one regular one. After we protested he told us we could have three rooms. Once we arrived we found a text message from him telling us that for only the first night we would have only two rooms plus one smaller one. This one turned out to have neither a mirror in the bathroom nor a shower curtain (but the shower only drizzled anyway). In one room there was no electricity for the fridge and the night lamp. The other rooms didn't have sufficient bed sheets nor towels. The sitting room shown in the advertisement turned out to have no windows. The roof was not in a condition to use. Fortunately there always was Akbar, the helper who was tremendously forthcoming and tried hard to support us as much as possible and who served us an extensive breakfast every morning. The neighbors were extremely friendly, especially the workers on the construction site opposite of the house who worked from six in the morning until late at night and waved to us every time they saw us. On the second night we met Sharif in person who told us that actually his style was more a "casual" and "laid back" one. How old-fashioned and stiff and uptight and utterly conservative we felt!
But, truth be told, Sharif did think twice and agreed to pay back 50% of the price of one room, and to fix the problems we had mentioned so that future guests would have none of our problems.
As far as the location is concerned, Qantab is a nice, small fishing village with nothing but a small beach (and you need to remember: no restaurants!), but it's quaint and looks great, it's less than half an hour to Muscat, and five minutes into the other direction there's a great beach at the Diving Center. Enjoy!
Volker, I did my best to accommodate you and your family and had moved out of the room I was staying in (the small one) so you could book the three rooms you need, I assumed it wouldn't be easy for you to find another place that would fit you all.
Unfortunately, the room I was staying in didn't have a mirror, or shower curtain, but I'm having those fixed now. The plug for the fridge in your room blew somehow (the guest who did it never told me), I am currently getting it replaced, but you had two other rooms with fridges, and a large communal fridge in the kitchen which you were welcome to use.
My apologies that you remember every detail of every little issue you might have had and felt the need to express it so publicly, it's a different spirit from what I'm used to on airbnb, the Shangri-La was just around the corner! And all this after I offered you a discount to make of for these shortcomings. Happy New Year!
My family and I (7 people in total) slept 3 nights at Sherif's house in Qantab. I did not have the chance to meet Sherif in person during my stay but we were in contact through SMS and Sherif was very helpful and quick to react. Sherif showed also a lot of flexibility regarding our check-in and check-out time and we were able to keep our luggage at the house while we were outside Muscat. The house is located in a beautiful village by the sea, so those who seek calm and authenticity will definitely appreciate. The house is located around 40km from the airport and it was easy to find with the GPS coordinates (therefore guests should make sure to have a car with a GPS!). The rooms were clean with all necessary equipment and the WIFi was working very well. We only lack hot water in one room during our first night but this was quickly fixed by Akbar (the Indian helper who takes care of the house). We really appreciated the kindness and availability of Akbar who prepared us a nice breakfast every morning. He also woke up very early the last day to make sure we left with something in the stomach! I strongly recommend this place and I will definitely come back during my next trip to Oman.
Thank you Marie, it was an absolute pleasure to have had you and your family staying in the village for these few days, even though we didn't get to meet it was a pleasure dealing with you, I'm very glad you appreciated and enjoyed the beauty of Qantab. And of course you're very welcome back any time! And I will have made many improvements by then!
We are very happy to have stayed at Sharif and have met him. He was a great host, very warm, easy going, friendly and helpful. He gave us lots of tips for our last 2 nights in Muscat following a 2 weeks road trip.
Qantab is a lovely quiet village, a great base for some cool day trips on the outskirt of Muscat.
Room was very comfortable, spacious and clean with all the necessary amenities like a small fridge and access to the main kitchen.
Sharif is a very nice, gentle and caring host. The house is nice and very well located in a very nice village still kept in its original shape and very close to the public beach. Sharif is just finishing the renovation and finalising the internal decoration of the house: we suggested him to increase the local touch in the interior decoration to be more loyal to the spirit and the style of this nice typical Omani villa. I really enjoy to share time and thought with Sharif , as I said a very nice and warm person. A very strategic location to enjoy at the same time the best beaches, access to wadis and Muscat.

Down to earth half Egyptian / half German techie, hippy and child at heart.
Born in London, brought up between Jordan, Egypt and even Brunei with an anthropologist for a father, I grew up with a passion for travel and openness to experiencing cultures across our planet. Never thought I'd be here so long but London's been home for 13 years and I still love it.
I run a social enterprise by Old Street that makes solar-powered computers for rural African schools and communities, and am privileged to be able to travel to some of these remote and beautiful parts of our world.
In 2012 I spent several weeks at other people's houses using AirBnB in Barcelona and Berlin and loved it! Now about 2 years later I have happily hosted over 75 people for over 1200 nights on AIRBNB!!!!
I look forward to offering a cosy, convenient and friendly home in London for the lovely AIRBNB'ers visiting this great city. I'm am currently living between London, Oman and Egypt, so depending on where I am I may or may not be able to meet you in person but I am available to talk to on the phone, via (website hidden) or airbnb messaging of course - almost all of the time!
