About this listing

American Family living locally for 10 yrs. We have a huge house in the Hist. Center of Cusco. Walk everywhere, get insider advice & do local things.

FAMILY FRIENDLY
HOT SHOWERS
BREAKFAST

The space

We have a large house in the Historical Center of Cusco. We have 7 big bedrooms and we rent 3-4 of them. After 3 years of running a very popular airbnb we have decided to begin hosting big groups and families only. Our house can be chaotic, which big groups and families don’t mind. You share the house with us, a family of 7, and our tour company Haku Expeditions.

Guest access

Big house....3 showers for guests and three toilets for guest. We have our own. Big kitchen for fun breakfasts and meal time. Cook if you like! Laundry facilities for a small charge.

Interaction with guests

We give breakfast, and love chatting over a cup of real Peruvian coffee. We have been told it is an amazing and great breakfast. You can decide when you get here.

We are a family not a hotel so things are run that way. If you arrive early, and many people do, we will offer you breakfast that first morning after your long journey.

By the way, if you have an early departure like 3am-7am, lets us know the night before, and we will leave something out for you to eat or to make and take. If you tell me way in advance I promise I will forget. I may be able to multitask like a queen (I being Nic) but I cannot remember it all, all the time.

Other things to note

Most people are looking for the best experience in Cusco during their time here, we can help you accomplish that, we know the city, the best restaurants, the best day trips, the coolest bars, and how to arrange almost any trip on any budget. If you would like to do paragliding, 4 wheeling, the longest zip line in the world or one of the many awesome treks here in Cusco, hiking Salkantay, Ausangate, Choquequiroa, Inka trail, and Inca jungle, we can set it up. We have done it or know someone who has. (If you have not planned to have a few days or more in Cusco you will wish you did, so plan accordingly. There is lots to do in and around the Cusco area.)

Saturday is market day. We buy all our fresh food from the local non tourist market. If you want to come along feel free. Nic goes to the flea market early around 6am and then Bill goes to the farmers market around 8 or 9. There are loads of pics on the F B page. If we recommend anything, it is the Saturday farmers market. It only runs on Saturday and you will most likely be the only foreigner there. We still get emails saying how that market or our tour A Day in the Life was the best part of the trip.

We also ride some killer secret single track that we are more than happy to take experienced bikers on. We can also take you on our personal tour called A Day in the Life.... showing you Peru outside of the tourist spectrum. Our F B page has all kinds of pics of that tour and people who have done it. It is an all day experience and only runs on Sundays.

If you need a ride from the airport or bus station let us know, we can organize that for you, it costs 20 dollars, someone will drive there, wait, wait some more, hold a sign and even hold your hand if your scared, and then will get you to our house safe and sound without you having to haggle with the taxi drivers who love fresh tourists. However, if you find managing things like taxis in foreign countries no big deal take one here for 10-15 soles.

If you arrive before the 11:00 check in time and want to leave your bags here so that you can walk around the city feel free, OR if you are tired from the long journey you can crash on the couch while you wait for your room. Also, if you need a place to leave things while you go on some big trek or to Macchu Picchu for the night you can do that too.

As you can see from the pictures, we are a family. We have kids and we are very active. We are often hiking or biking or on some kind of adventure. When we are not out on an adventure we may be having a Bar-B-Q in the Sacred Valley that you can come to or just hanging out having a world famous Cuzquena beer or Pisco in the yard. Our kids are normal healthy kids, you may find them making a volcano in the yard, chasing our two chickens out of the house, jumping on your (URL HIDDEN) no no, I mean jumping on the couch, laughing, squealing from being tossed in the air or yes beating each other up and them crying about it. That’s the fun of a family. We love it and invite you in to be a part of our family for your stay and that’s exactly how you will be treated, like family or friends we have known for years.

Bill and Nic's place is a 10-15 min walk from the center of historic Cusco, with lots of main tourist attractions and restaurants. You will stay with a family, in dorm style rooms - clean and comfortable. Breakfast will be bread with butter / jam, coffee and eggs. Bill and Nic are responsive and will help you plan your time in the Sacred Valley - they helped us book our train Machu Picchu, buy the Machu Picchu pass, buy the 10 day pass for the ruins, etc. They also had valuable advice on what to see and do, for example we decided to do the hike from Aguas Calientes to / from Machu Picchu (which was awesome) instead of taking the bus, due to their advice. Enjoyed our stay in Cusco and really valued advice from expert American Ex-Pats (and family-friendly advice).

We had the opportunity to stay in both Cusco and Ollantaytambo at Bill and Nic's homes. In Ollanta we were met at the taxi by Martha, the house manager/assistant. She speaks English and was so sweet and welcoming. She led us up the Inca-era cobblestoned streets to the unique and beautiful home. Each room has its own lock and decorated in true Inca fashion. The place is located within walking distance of all shops and restaurants with many good finds within the town. When looking out the back of the home you see their beautiful garden and a small hiking trail that is free to explore. We would stay here again and recommend it to our friends and family. Martha was very helpful with everything from suggestions for places to eat to confirming our taxi back to Cusco after spending the day at Machu Piccchu. Cusco- In Cusco we were again greeted by one of three house assistants/helpers/nannies and impressed by their eagerness to help and make us feel at home. Even with the language barrier they went out of their way and were quick to answer questions and provide us with anything we needed. We enjoyed staying here and getting a glimpse into family life in Peru. We enjoyed breakfast provided (coffee, tea, bread, cheese) before heading out for the day's adventures. We didn't spend much time in Cusco and would love to come back!

This was the second time I stayed w/ Nic & Bill (first time was at their Ollantaytambo house). As before, they were very welcoming and cordial. This property in Cusco is centrally located -- very esay to get around just by walking -- no need for abs unless to the airport.

Bill and Nic's house a a bustling, happy place where you are made to feel at home and have everything you need. Nicole is one of the most friendly and accommodating people I have met. She is full of suggestions and information to make your stay extra brilliant.

Bill and Nic were wonderful hosts! Our bus was late arriving from Ollantaytambo and they stayed up late to let us in and communicated with us via email during the process. They also recommended some local sights to see in Cusco and stored our things while we hiked the Inca Trail.

We moved to Peru with the desire to help in a third world country. We were complete volunteers for the last seven years. We both worked in schools for the poor. We arrived with minimal Spanish and a one year old. I would have to say we have come a long way since then. Not only are we fluent in Spanish but Bill has picked up Quechua from the locals he worked with in Andahuaylillas. Although we spent most of our time helping the poor we also took out time to search out some of the best single track, sweet day hikes, good camping spots and do the big treks around here. We love adventure and family which is why we do lots of family adventures.

We are both from Buffalo, NY but moved to Durango Colorado after we got married. We now live in the city center of Cusco Peru, ten minutes walking to the Plaza de Armas. We have decided to offer travelers a nice, safe, and relaxed stay in our house during their time here. After hearing about Airbnb from a friend, we thought it would be great to offer some of our extra rooms to the traveler who tires of cheap hotels and rowdy hostels. You should feel free to have a nice, safe, and relaxed stay in our house during your time here. We know the area, have done the trips, and know the best ways to enjoy Cusco, and its wonders. Plus we can help you do some off the beaten path stuff if you'd like. You'll be happy you stayed with us. Families are welcome!
