Coming into town for a wedding or just an outdoor adventure with a group of family or friends? Love your family, but also want the feel of a little distance? Perched on the cliff of roaring Spring Creek, this 5 bedroom / 5 bathroom home is broken out into 3 apartments and is located less than a 1 minute drive from the center of the town of Hot Springs (8-10 minute walk) and is an 8 minute walk to the Appalachian Trailhead. You have the proximity to town, but the feel of the countryside.

The space
This is an old historic general store built in 1900, fully-restored with modern updates. It has gone through multiple incarnations over the years, including a dance hall in the late 1930's to 1940's. This property is now 3 units, appropriately called Cliffside, Birds Nest and Hide Away. This property is perched up high in the almost 90 degree curve of trout-stocked Spring Creek, called Fowler's Bend. Be prepared for INCREDIBLE VIEWS of the RUSHING WATERS of a 20-30 foot wide creek, with views of a distant WATERFALL. Out the front door, almost 7,500 acres of Pisgah NATIONAL FOREST sits just across the road.

If you are looking for water it is abound here. The views and sounds of the water are unparalleled, and will leave you feeling washed from whatever stressors your life at home may present you with.

What I love best about this top floor space is the amount the sounds of the roaring creek, the incredible views and the two window seats with some of the most breath-taking views, yet all walking distance to many attractions and activities. The sights and sounds help soothe any kinks you may have packed in with you, so that when you leave, you can feel more vibrant and centered within yourself. Let these old mountains and this incredible creek cradle you and lull you back into a relaxing state, or help get you focused on that project or book you have been trying to start or finish.

This 5 bedroom (4 king beds, 1 queen bed) / 5 bathroom unit has plenty of parking fro a group, 2 fully-equipped kitchens to share meals together, or to just make coffee if you want to sample the local flavor instead. There are 2 gas FIREPLACES in the living room and VINTAGE TUBS in two of the 5 bathrooms. The THREE WINDOW SEATS and THREE PORCHES allow you to rest or come together with friends and loved ones to overlook the creek and long range views of the only in town WATERFALL. There are two futon sofas that convert into 2 beds in the second living room for additional guests.

Keep an eye out for the Blue Heron, the old iron pilings from the former connecting bridge, and after a good rain, keep an eye out for kayakers. It is amazing to seem them round that almost 90 degree curve!

For those who love to hike or walk (or who want to avoid trying to find parking in the small town of Hot Springs) in 10 minutes you can be at the Appalachian Trailhead or in the Town of Hot Springs to dine or shop, tube, etc. and in approx. 15-20 minute you can be soaking in your own reserved tub at the hot mineral springs (or about a 2-3 minute drive).

Enjoy the pitch black nights, filled with incredible stars, and Spring Creek lulling you into a sweet slumber! Whether coming for a peaceful retreat, the restorative mineral springs or for an outdoor adventure extravaganza, Birds Nest at Fowler's Bend is an excellent choice to support and augment your endeavors.

Come Retreat Within!

NOTE: There are no TV's on this property to provide a deeper inner reconnection.

Where you’ll be

Hot Springs, North Carolina, United States

Hot Springs, NC has been a resort destination for almost 200 years, coveted for its healing hot mineral springs, scenic mountain setting, and abundance of nature. Steeped in history, this is a small town with friendly people, many of which have been here for generations. Only 40 minutes north of Asheville and under 10 minutes to the Tennessee border, it is the first town (and only in NC) that one passes through on the Appalachian Trail when heading north. Not into hiking? You can still say you have been on the Appalachian Trail by walking down the sidewalk in town.

Hot Springs is the convergence of the Appalachian Trail, the French Broad River, Pisgah National Forest and the Blue Ridge Mountains. In this valley, nature is in abundance, as is adventure! Come tubing, rafting or kayaking down the French Broad, hiking on trails for all levels, horseback riding, fishing, hunting or get a massage or a soak at the Hot Springs tubs. Consider a day trip to Asheville to see the Biltmore house, tour the craft breweries and sample some amazing food that they have become so known for, or just soak in a little WNC city-life (my favorite way to see Asheville is via a Segway tour).

Traveling for pleasure, for me, is all about getting out of my routine and exploring a destination, being outdoors, or simply just being in my own space. I am a horrible tourist! I would much rather be outside at a cafe observing people in the street than in a museum, and have learned to enjoy spontaneity on vacation or in an experience. How else do you leave room for some amazing opportunities and perhaps fun stories later down the road? Although I was raised in the Western North Carolina mountains, I left at a young age never thinking I would come back . . . EVER. I have lived in many places and have had the privilege of some amazing travel experiences internationally - off the gringo path in Peru, living above an artist's gallery in Indonesia, going to school in the Loire Valley in France, hiking into an active volcano in Nicaragua . . . the privilege was not about the places I stayed, but in the people I encountered who helped ignite my soul in some way or uncover what living is truly about. All of my travels and experiences have brought me back to this mystical and magical mountainous wonderland. And now I wish to share it with you!
