This magical house is at the heart of Dunskey's 2000-acre private Estate, and is surrounded year-round by carpets of bluebells, snowdrops and daffodils. In the summer, a parade of ombre colour rhododendrons provide the most enchanting backdrops. Throughout the autumn and winter, large hydrangeas bushes surrounding the house bring spectacular colours. Originally the dwelling earmarked for the post of the Estate gardener, this spacious house has been meticulously restored to modern standards.

The space
It's joyous to spend time in Fern Forest House, which has been meticulously decorated and renovated. The living room enjoys streaming sunlight from the bay window, and features an enchanting forest mural with foxes and wild birds. The large open-fire will keep you happily reading for hours on end. Luxury Italian leather three-seater sofa, plus another a velvet mustard tufted sofa makes sure every one has a comfortable seat. The starburst chandelier ensures your evening will be glow through the night.

On the ground floor, the kitchen also enjoys views of the maze and the historic stables courtyard. Thoroughly modern with the latest appliances so you can cook up a storm. A mahogany table with vintage cane chairs and two other upholstered chairs allow you to entertain as you cook.

The house features three spacious bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, all with showers and baths. Wall-to-wall plush carpeting, velvet curtains, and incredibly comfortable beds are found in every room. Each room also has a dressing table, chest of drawers, and additional comfy chairs.

Outside, a newly laid fire pit and BBQ area will allow you to take in the views of the rolling meadows. Be sure to say hi to the "coos" who may poke their wet noses through for look. In these vast fields, you are guaranteed to see deers, pheasants, foxes, wild birds, hedgehogs and squirrels throughout the year. In the spring, the sweet lambs follow their mothers around and you'll catch sights of their playful prancing all the time!

Guest access
You're not simply staying in a Lodge: you are staying on one of the most beautiful spots on the planet. Dunskey Estate boasts two waterfalls, two lochs, and three beaches, with the most magnificent walks along the craggy Scottish coastline. This pleasure ground will be completely yours to explored, including a private woodland garden and a maze. You will have the time of your life, I promise.

Please note: the Estate's walled garden is undergoing extensive renovation during late 2020 to 2021. It is only accessible to our team members during this time.

Historic Edwardian castle estate in the heart of picturesque Portpatrick. 2000 acres of glen walks, forests, beaches, lochs, gardens and waterfalls to explore.
Dunskey Castle is an impeccably maintained 100-year-old Scottish home with fine period furniture and baronial features.

The walled garden with its glass house is a romantic and peaceful retreat on the estate. Two lochs nestle into the hills and rhododendron banks. Wander along the glen walk past a rushing waterfall, and a babbling brook, to the two beaches to spot dolphins and seals. Dunskey Golf Course and the picturesque Portpatrick Harbour is two minutes away. Fishing expeditions from the beaches or on our two lochs are available. Pheasant shooting and deer stalking are also available upon request.

Reading is my life, especially if the books are by women of colour. I am also a proud and outspoken feminist who is passionate about racial justice, rural development, and voting rights. Smashing the patriarchy is our family's most favoritest activity :-) . Our family has been working on the Dunskey Project for the last few years, and we believe in transformative, compassionate, and value-driven hospitality. My children, Poi and Beebop, love pho and Vietnamese ginger chicken more than life itself. They're also partial to whacking nettles and swinging under the chestnut tree in the back of the Castle. We raise our children and ourselves with service as the core determinant of our lives. Also we listen to lots of podcasts and go for many aimless walks all around this remote corner of Scotland. The mushrooms are amazing teachers too!
