Built in the slope of Salobreña´s rock, arranged over two floors and two sets of stairs, conveniently separating the living and sleeping areas. The decor combines original features with a vintage touch. The perfect base to explore the area.
As a Spaniard spending most of my time in London, Salobreña has all I am after whenever I go back to my country: authenticity, great weather, & beautiful sorroundings. So in 2005 I decided to look for a town house in the town, and found one that had a lot of potential. Since then I enjoy decorating it to keep it as comfortable, spacious and stylish home in which to spend a holiday. The last major upgrade has been carried out in december 2013.
It is not a beach apartment nor a villa with a swimming pool, but rather a charming town house in which to feel part of town life. It was built in the 60’s in a sought after lower part of Salobreña Old Town, amongst Spanish neighbours. The house is unusually spacious for its location, luminous and with good proportions, approximately 70sqm.
It is built in the slope of Salobreña´s famous rock, and is arranged over two floors and two sets of stairs, conveniently separating the living and sleeping areas.
On the ground floor, steps lead into an large open plan kitchen, a living room and a terrace. The terrace has a southeast orientation, receiving the sunlight from the morning until well into the afternoon, ensuring protection from local winds, and a mild & pleasant temperature inside the property all year round! White floors, original stone walls, a generous leather corner sofa, vintage table and lamps, aircon/heating, ambience lighting, books, boardgames, WiFi, a large satellite TV, bluetooth speaker, DVD… even an original school blackboard! everything contributes to being a space for sharing and relaxing, and an unusually large one for a town house in Salobreña!
Downstairs there are two comfortable bedrooms overlooking a quiet pedestrian street, a subway tiled bathroom with an extra large shower, and a toilet. The decor combines original features and local materials, with a vintage, non fussy touch. For more photos visit flickr jorgepostigo.
The property is located in a particularly quiet cul -de sac with no traffic noise, there is car access to the front door, and parking spaces can be found in the same street and nearby area. The property also benefits from being a moments walk from a small food shop run by local people, a 10 minute walk (600 meters) to the sea front, and 5 minutes walk to the town centre, where a municipal market, large supermarkets, banks and shops are found.
Rita, the housekeeper, is a trusted and resourceful local lady who is responsible for welcoming you, handing out keys, cleaning and resolving any issues you might have. She only speaks Spanish, but manages to make herself understood to all guests! Although I live in London, I am of course also available on email and mobile 24/7.
Guests have access to the whole house. Everything is included so all you have to do is relax: kitchen utensils, WiFi, bed linen, towels, a welcome pack of food and final cleaning. When booking for ten days or more a 3h weekly cleaning after the first week is included in the price rent.
Interaction with Guests
Although I do not live on site I am available 24/7 on mobile and email. During your stay, the housekeeper, a lovely local lady, is available to sort out any issues on the spot.
The Old Town of Salobreña is alive with locals, they are friendly people who will talk to you if prompted. This is the real Spain, not a secluded area for tourists.
Car is not essential, but advisable for those who wish to explore nearby towns and beaches. Parking spaces are generally found at the end of the street, and on the parallel road. Parking can take longer to find during the Summer months, Easter and Christmas.
Other Things to Note
With a queen size (150cm) bed, two single (90cm) beds, and an inflatable individual bed, the house can sleep up to maximum of 5 people.
After booking, a document containing house rules below, along with personal recommendations on beaches, restaurants and places of interest, will be provided.
ON ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE
Check-in/Check-out: from 16h/before 12h, unless other arrangements have been agreed.
Rita, the housekeeper (number will be provided after booking), will hand you the keys, show you around the house, and answer questions you might have about the area…all in andalusian spanish!
On departure day, please leave the front door keys inside the house for Rita to pick them up again.
GENERAL HOUSE RULES
Please do not smoke inside the house
Respect the neighbours by keeping the music and noise levels low at all times, and specially between 10pm and 8am.
If the wind is blowing strong please keep the blinds of the terrace raised.
When leaving the house, you can leave the bedroom windows open for draught, but lock the black iron gate of the terrace; the keys are kept by the wall: blue key for the top lock, green for the one below.
For your security, smoke detectors are fitted in both floors. Only open the bedroom window gates in case of emergency.
If there are young children at home bear in mind there are two sets of stairs.
We rely on our guests to keep the plants alive, please water them using your judgment depending on the weather.
Rubbish bags are left at the beginning of the street and are collected every night between 20-22h.
Rest assured that we will do our best to ensure you have a comfortable, enjoyable stay. So if you feel something is not quite right on arrival or during your stay please tell us immediately so we can do something about it! And although we are not responsible for unforeseen situations unrelated to the property, we would inform you beforehand if neccesary and/or we would address them accordingly as soon as we know about them.
Just adding more positive words to all those happy reviews: the appt is light and cosy and fully equipped. In winter time (December) it can be a bit chilly but the heating downstairs worked fine. Upstairs it did not - did not bother us really- but Jorge said he'd be on it immediately to repair.
The little town is still filled with lots of locals so you're in the midst of Spanish day-to-day life. Small tip: keep an eye on the pavement when you walk, the (stray?) dogs and cats don't always clean up after themselves :)
Beaches: beautiful. Restaurants: great - according to Jorge's tips which are accurate. Surroundings: stunning. Despite the extended directions we got lost but that might have been due to tiredness; our flight was delayed by snow fall in Germany.
Excellent communications which were especially required to find this gem of an apt. The place is spacious and comfortable. The beach is relatively close but the stairway access can be physically taxing, particularly on the return ascent. Very convent little mercado only steps away from the front door. Parking was abundant and safe. Beaches were beautiful and local restaurants and businesses abundant.
Overall very nice experience.
We had a fantastic 3-week stay at Jorge's gorgeous townhouse in Salobreña.
Jorge was a great host - extremely responsive and personable and the information (from check-in procedure to directions to recommendations for the area and everything in between) that he sent us in advance of our arrival pretty much answered any and all questions we might have had. This rental runs like a well-oiled machine but with the personal touch of an owner who is genuinely interested in ensuring that his guests enjoy themselves.
The townhouse itself was fabulous. It was bright, beautifully furnished and very well-equipped, as-depicted in the photos. Beds were comfortable, wifi and AC worked very well and the kitchen was a joy to cook and eat in. It very much felt like home.
The location is great, nestled in a pretty whitewashed village and within a reasonable walk of the beach and town (with its grocery stores, market, restaurants and other amenities). We opted not to rent a car and were therefore faced with the stairs (approximately 170 of them from the bottom up to the townhouse) twice a day. But we had fun with it, turning it into a competition and racing with our toddler in tow against our previous times (- 2 mins 11 secs was our best!).
We would totally recommend this townhouse and hope to be back the next time we're in the south of Spain. Thank you so much, Jorge, for sharing it with us!
La maison correspond aux photos de l'annonce. L'hôte nous a laissé quelques aliments essentiels à notre arrivée, c'était un accueil très apprécié. Les plages recommandées par Jorge étaient magnifiques.
Slightly tricky to find although the instructions provided were very good - you need to go to the end of the road to find the duplex. The information that Jorge provides is excellent and worth reading - especially for the beach recommendations. The kitchen and living area are very spacious and easily enough for 4 people. The beds are very comfortable and the shower is fantastic. The duplex is well equipped and clean. Rita was there to meet us at exactly the time agreed and gave a good guided tour.
It is a good area to keep fit as there are quite a few steps both to the beach and up to the old town but quite easily done. there are lots of very good restaurants and bars in easy walking (website hidden) Pesatas in the old town is very good for food and drink, El Padrino (near the beach) is good for drinks and pizza and Emilio on the beach has great seafood.
The whole place was clean, and we were even greeted with fresh eggs, ham, milk and bread. The place was just as shown in the pictures. It had excellent wifi. They arrived exactly on time to meet us - down to the minute. When we checked in, they checked that everything was working positively. Jorge gave us great recommendations about what to do in the area, which led us to a gorgeous beach, and was always very quick to respond to our queries. It was a delightful stay in a restful part of the southern coast of Spain!
Jorge was easy to communicate with before our trip. The kitchen and bathroom were thoughtfully stocked with food and toiletries.
The flat was tastefully decorated and had very comfortable beds!
Safe and quiet location but near the main town. Jorge had left a good selection of maps/ guides and dvd/books.
All amenities were modern and tasteful and the balcony is lovely area to have breakfast.
We had a enjoyable stay.
I am a Spaniard living between London and Spain. I take much care in keeping my Salobreña property in top shape, spending time decorating it in a non-fussy, elegant style. When I go back to Andalucia I like to live the atmosphere of the town, walk the streets, talk to people, and appreciate the small, colorful things that make life fun. When at home I like to relax in comfortable spaces that are clutter free and genuine. I want my guests to feel the same way when they stay in Salobreña. I have a local housekeeper that takes care of handing out keys, cleaning and solving any issues on the spot. I am always available too. When not at work, or thinking about ways to improve my property, I practice Swasthya yoga, outdoor swimming, listen to flamenco, and read country noir fiction.
