This is the SoBro Guest House Located in the South Bronx aka SoBro, New York, a hustling & bustling trendy and hip neighborhood. Just search SoBro Bronx, NY and you will see what the area has to offer. We are walking distance (1 Block) to the Antique District which boasts an assortment of Cafes, Lounges, Bars, Art Galleries and Antique shops. Alexander's Bar on Alexander Ave, The Piano Factory, Bruckner Bar and Grill, DJ EMBE just to name a few. You can walk to Manhattan over the Willis Ave Bridge which is located on the corner. Or jump on the # 6 Train and you are only one stop away from the City of NY! The # 6 train is located approximately 4 blocks away or a 5 minute walk. The Guest House is easily accessible from JFK, Newark, and La Guardia Airports via the Metro so you do not have to waste money on taking a taxi.
We would advise that only the adventurous and more open minded stay here. This is not the Marriot or a central park west local, although we are very close. The neighborhood is considered very safe. It is jumping and unbelievably vibrant and once you step outside the Guest House you will be living amongst real New Yorker's... not tourists. This may be enticing to some but scary to others... so take it for what its worth. Highly recommend if you are looking for a true New York experience! Dont take our word for it... Just read the reviews and see for yourself!
The building itself is very safe and secure. Ray lives on premise and can deal with any issues should they arise. The room is private with your own lock and key. Fresh bed linens and towels are provided. Share 2 full baths and basic cooking facilities with the other guests. We have long term international students and tourists staying with us from all over the world. The room has a full size bed and is located on the 3rd Floor of a renovated Mott Haven Brownstone. There is a mini-fridge and 32" Plasma TV located inside the room. But your in New York... how much time do you plan to spend inside??

The SoBro house was great! Accommodating in terms of letting us check in late (very late), and was chill when I broke a glass. Ray was always around cleaning or doing what he does, so if you happen to have a problem (which we didnt) he would be around. The room was clean, it had a mini fridge and we had access to the shared kitchen. Towels were provided which was a huge plus. Its pretty close to one of the subway lines, and right off the freeway. We only heard much later from some Manhattanites that the area isnt safe, but we definitely had no issue - however we were taking taxis back if we were coming back after 12am.
The place was really clean and nice. I had fun staying there. Thanks guys
This is actually my 2nd time staying at SoBro (which is a bit self explanatory). SoBro is awesome because it is quiet, very clean, near a variety of food spots, safe neighborhood, and surrounded by culture!! It's your best bet for affordable and close to the city!!
Great experience staying at the SoBro guest house. Very clean and a secure location. There was a mini fridge in the room and you are allowed access to a full kitchen with stove and microwave. The house is located only a few blocks away from the Subway which allows easy access to wherever you want to go. While there were other people staying in the guest house, everyone is busy doing their own thing. We hardly saw/heard anyone else in the house. Ray was a great host. I would recommend this place to anyone who is visiting the city on a budget.
Our stay at Martin, Ray, and Greg's guest house was great. Everything was perfect. Good location, good price, clean room, mostly quiet hostel. Ray was always so helpful and kind, we never met Greg but we e-mailed him and he was super friendly and very considerate of our needs. Do not hesitate to book your room here!!! Subway number 6 will take you to the city in 30 minutes or so. Overall we gave SoBro guest house 5 stars. Thank you Ray, Greg and Martin !!!
Great value for money and convenient location to explore NYC. The Subway is a five minute walk and only one or two stops to get to Manhattan. Our room was on the top floor and we had access to fast and reliable wireless, air conditioning, well equipped communal kitchen and shared bathroom. The entire place was kept really clean during our stay.
We had a great time in New York! We didn’t spend too much time in doors, but in terms of the accommodation..
The place is very close to the station (and from Times Square only 19 dollar taxi fare)
Shops nearby are convenient
Ray keeps the place very clean
Accommodation is basic, but everything is done to a good spec
On arrival, we had to wait a long time to get into the building (unfortunately weather was bad). When we did get in, Ray didn’t seem to be expecting us and even when we produced the confirmation code, we had to wait a while to be shown our room
Quite noisy at times inside rooms due to very thin walls
Felt a bit uncomfortable at times, for instance, we didn’t feel safe in the neighborhood, and we’re used to living in London. Additionally, another guest opened the door and walked in once, and then again during the evening she tried to unlock the door (obviously not the host’s fault though)
Biggest negative point was the blue blanket that we were provided with. Usually a blanket wouldn’t bother me too much but this blanked just molted little blue bobbles EVERYWHERE, it was all over the bedsheets even when we arrived, and when taking your morning shower you will have little blue bobbles coming off you all over the place! Stupid blanket, we took it off after the second night and banished it to the wardrobe.
Overall though, we would recommend this place if you’re on a tight budget, just be sure to get rid of that blue blanket as soon as you get there :)
The place was clean and orderly. Rey was so helpfull and even lent us an extra pillow. He also gave us directions in using the subway. Overall, our stay was great.
Couldn't have asked for a better situation. Cheap, clean, efficient transit, friendly, safe, and chill. The place as a whole was incredibly clean and the room itself was a good size with a closet and small fridge. There were several bathrooms and space to cook if you wanted to. Literally, within the first 5 minutes of being there, I thought to myself, "I will come back here whenever I'm in the city next."
The neighborhood is a work in progress. However, the local people were were friendly, there was awesome street food, and a great opportunity for one to use their Spanish-speaking abilities (though, not a requirement to function in SoBro).
I highly recommend this place if you are wanting a real NYC experience.
Loved staying in the Bronx and the apartment was fantastic - quiet, clean and convieniant. Would recommend to anyone who wants to see another side to New York.
