Tucked into the end of a rustic lane is Diamond House a mid-century modern hillside home in a nature-filled setting; so named because of the unique diamond shaped plan of the main house. Your newly renovated, attached guest suite has a private entry separate from the main house, spacious bedroom with sitting area and en-suite bath. From the small private deck you can enjoy your morning cup of coffee in the quiet, natural setting.

Any and all guests who appreciate quiet and nature are welcome.

The space
Ideal for a couple, or business-person working in the area. Very convenient to downtown San Rafael, Dominican University, transit or outdoor activities in nature.
New queen size bed, new bathroom, coffee maker and microwave provided.
Renovations on the spacious suite (nearly 300 square feet/28 square meters) are just completed with a focus on Eco-friendly methods: wool batt insulation, double-paned windows, low VOC paints, energy efficient LED lights and recycled clear heart redwood decking. A new bed and all new bathroom with European style fixtures and corner shower (no tub) are ready for your visit!

The super secluded nature-filled setting is convenient too, just a 10 minute walk to downtown San Rafael with its vibrant live music, food and craft brewery scene. Centrally located, you can venture out to hike Mt Tamalpais (Mt. Tam to the locals) head to Point Reyes and Stinson Beach, or hop onto nearby highway 101 to drive to the redwoods or the Sonoma and Napa Valley wine country—just 45 minutes by car. And Dominican University is only a mile away. If your stay brings you here on a Sunday, enjoy the Civic Center Farmer’s Market--one of the largest in California-- focused on organic produce.
Bring you bike and enjoy a mountain full of trails, or ride into San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge. The Larkspur Ferry is a 15 minute bike ride away. High-speed ferries will get you to the City in 35 minutes and is a beautiful ride. Or drive to Fisherman’s Wharf in 25 minutes. .

Guest access
The house is located at the end of a fairly steep winding lane. There is ample on-street parking available on both sides of the street; please don’t park directly in front of the Fire Lane sign and be sure to leave room for other cars to turn around. 10 gentle steps will lead you to the front deck, with level access from there around the side of the house to your front door. Motion activated lights will light your way if you arrive after dark; and it can get dark here due to limited street lights and abundant adjacent open space—all the better to see the stars!

I will give you the access code in advance and you can easily self check-in to the suite. If you wish, knock on the front door to say hi.

There is no access from the guest suite to the main house. .

Seems like San Rafael is a half an hour to everywhere (give or take)…Sonoma, Napa, San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland are within 30-35 minutes. Depending on the traffic you can be in Stinson Beach and Muir Woods in roughly 20 minutes. Downtown San Rafael and the Golden Gate Transit bus station are just a few blocks away, as is the freeway entrance (101 north and south).

We have a wonderful Art house cinema in town. You may recognize the façade of the Rafael Theater from the film American Graffiti. George Lucas is a great patron of the arts here, and San Rafael has blossomed with artist studios, shops and restaurants. The well-known Sol Food Restaurant, serving delicious Puerto Rican food, is just a few blocks away. (Watch out for the lunchtime lines!) Another favorite restaurant, Terrapin Crossroads, owned by Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead, has a fabulous outdoor patio right on the water and is perfect for Spring or Summer meals alfresco. (The music’s not bad either.)

During the summer months 4th street shuts down on Thursdays for a lively, early evening Farmers Market. Speaking of which, there is also a year round Farmers Market at our famous Frank Lloyd Wright Civic Center on Sunday mornings that many locals make a Sunday morning ritual. This market is hard to beat. It’s huge with amazing food vendors, coffee, crafts, bouncy houses and every farm selling gorgeous seasonal fare. Pick up your picnic supplies here and head out on an adventure! Enjoy!

If Shakespeare is your thing, during the summer months the Marin Shakespeare Festival performs at the Forest Meadows Amphitheater on the Dominican University campus, which is also just a few minutes away by car.

Hi I’m Jeff. I’m an architect and life-long resident of the bay area. I’m an empty- nester, frequent traveler and Airbnb guest; I’m super excited at becoming a host and bringing the best of what I’ve enjoyed across the US and Europe to my home in Marin. I love living in Marin—hiking and biking and supporting the local food and brewing scene. I love to explore new hiking trails, check out the latest neighborhood scenes in San Francisco, and visit the wine country for tastings and new finds!
