The space
Morning light filters through the enclosed atrium, illuminating the red maple tree and custom mural at the heart of this 1956 Joseph Eichler-designed home. The open layout creates a natural flow between living spaces, while the quiet Highlands neighborhood offers a peaceful setting for workdays or relaxing evenings by the indoor fireplace.
Thoughtfully renovated in 2017, the home preserves its mid-century character while providing comfortable spaces for both short visits and extended stays. Whether you’re working remotely in the private office or gathering in the living room after a day exploring the Bay Area, the layout is designed to make time spent indoors feel easy and relaxed.
Sleeping arrangements
The home accommodates up to 6 guests across three sleeping spaces. Two bedrooms feature queen beds, while the den includes a fold-down sofa. The primary suite includes a private bathroom with a walk-in shower. A second bathroom offers a deep soaking tub, giving guests options for both quick morning routines and slower evening wind-downs.
Living space
The open-concept living area brings together the living room, dining area, and kitchen under high ceilings with abundant natural light. A wood-burning indoor fireplace creates a cozy setting on cooler evenings. The dining table offers space for shared meals, while the kitchen provides everything needed to prepare food during your stay.

The kitchen includes stainless steel appliances and cooking essentials, making it easy to prepare meals at home. The dining table sits nearby within the open living space, allowing conversation and connection to continue between cooking and dining.

Step outside to the fully fenced private backyard where outdoor furniture and a fire pit create a relaxed setting. The patio includes a BBQ grill and outdoor dining area that can accommodate group meals. Situated in the Highlands neighborhood of San Mateo, the home offers convenient access to the Bay Area. Downtown San Francisco is about 20 minutes away, and SFO Airport is approximately 15 minutes by car. Downtown San Mateo, Hillsdale Shopping Center, Coyote Point, and Bayfront trails are also within driving distance, and public transportation is accessible via a nearby Caltrain station.

Guests have full access to the home and garden. Parking includes driveway space and free street parking. The home is single level with no stairs and offers self check-in via lockbox for convenience.
Please note: two bedrooms do not have curtains, but privacy is ensured due to exterior wall placement. No parties or events allowed, and occupancy must not exceed the reservation count.
Guest access
Guests have full access to the entire property, including the house and gardens. A washer and dryer are available for use in the garage. But no parking is allowed in the garage, thank you.
Every once in a great while we may ask you to move your car from the driveway, so that we can get our car out of the garage, this will only take 5 minutes but we will let you know a head of time.
Other things to note
For safety reasons, we do not prefer children under 12. The home contains decor and furnishings that are not childproof—some items are breakable, could tip over, or include small pieces that could be swallowed.
This is a peaceful home intended for quiet stays. Any gathering over 8 people, including visitors, will be considered a party and is strictly prohibited. No events or parties of any kind are allowed. We appreciate your understanding in helping us maintain a safe and respectful environment for all guests and neighbors.
