Planning on visiting NYC or need a temporary place between moves? Come for a stay in our guest room!
Located in the historic Crown Heights neighborhood, our brownstone apartment is conveniently situated across Prospect Park from the Park Slope area and within walking distance of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, The Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, The Brooklyn Children's Museum and the newly restored Brooklyn Public Library(Main Branch).
The area has an eclectic taste which reflects the diversity of cultures inhabiting it. Crown Heights has some lovely architecture and a variety of peoples and shops, ranging from variously hatted and top-coated Orthodox Jewish residents to vegan Rastafarian Afro-Caribbean restaurants and college students.
The guest room is quite cozy and there is a very comfortable full size bed, a full-length mirror, a nice desk with an overhead light and a spacious closet. The room has everything that you might need, including a travel adapter for your electronic devices and a large vanity mirror over the desk.
You may be sharing the common areas with 2 other guests, as I have 2 other guest rooms. I live here alone, but the other guest rooms may or may not be occupied during your visit.
So, why is this better than staying in a Hostel? We offer lot's of Free amenities: Secure Wireless internet, free laundry machines and a kitchen with great tools and culinary gadgets. For all you shoppers, the bathroom has a weight scale that you can use to weigh your luggage before heading off to the airport!
In the backyard there is a small garden with a beautiful row of Rose bushes and tomato plants. We also have bicycles(and helmets) that you can use to ride around the neighborhood. As an added bonus, we are half a block from the Subway! The 2,4 and 5 trains all run express into downtown Brooklyn and Manhattan. There are also several buses nearby that run towards Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Bushwick.
If you are driving, we even have a secure backyard (with a locking gate) for you to park in.
Discounted rates available for longer stays as well. Just ask :)
Everything you'd expect in a home setting is available for you… Clean kitchen and bathroom, a refrigerator, a nice living room and access to my personal treasures: Large music collection, Books, Musical instruments, etcetera.
Interaction with Guests
I like to make people feel at home and welcome, but I also strive to meet each guests individual requirements… If you want to hang out and share a nice conversation or would rather keep to yourself, I'm happy either way. :)
I'm always reachable by cell phone and happy to help with directions or recommendations.
The diversity of people and cultures are what drew me in to this neighborhood Also the fact that it is a family area, which provides a little sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of busy areas like Manhattan.
The 2, 3 and 5 express trains leave from less than half a block from my front door and cover all of your transportation needs.
Other Things to Note
As of January 2015, this guest room has been completely renovated!
Over the past 3 years I have taken note of all the suggested improvements and occasional complaints, and fixed every single issue! The bedroom walls are now fully soundproofed and insulated for your privacy and comfort. I've completely eliminated the musty smell that a few people mentioned in the past(removed and replaced some old pipes in the wall that had decayed) and replaced the murphy bed with a proper frame and new full size mattress. By removing an old storage closet and shelves, I have been able to reposition the bed. This has really opened up the floor space and made the room a million times more spacious.
I added two air vents to let in plenty of fresh air from the outside and waterproofed/sealed the stone wall along the back of the room and painted it bright white. There is also a new window over the desk to keep the air flow moving and to let in a bit more natural light.
I spent over $2000 on the renovation and did the work myself, so that It was done right! It was totally worth it. :)
Basically, I'd like you to feel at home here and treat the place as you would your own. My only real rules are:
-No smoking of anything indoors! You may use the backyard to smoke, as long as you put your cigarette butts in the trash.
-Keep things clean! Wash your dishes and wipe down counters/stove if you have prepared food.
-Recycle! If you are unaware of the importance of recycling by now or are just too lazy to do it, then I might just have to smack you upside the head! ;) PLEASE, recycle all of your paper, cardboard, boxes, bags, cans, juice/milk cartons, plastic and metal. I have clearly marked bins for each in the Kitchen.
-No super loud music/movies from your laptop, ipod, etc. Use headphones; especially in the early morning or after 10 pm in the evening.
This place was great - everything was as pictured and expected based on listing. Daniel was super nice - we had great conversation when he checked me in - and there are two sweet cats who I met as well.
This is my kind of place - quirky with lots of character - and Daniel has little signs and explicit directions for everything so there are no questions about anything (though he is certainly available to answer any)
Parking in the back! Very rare.
Wifi is good - washer & dryer available - lots of NYC maps and travel books for tourists, subway station down the street, bodegas and restaurants around the corner - no complaints!
I would stay in any of Daniel's rooms in the future. Thanks!
Daniel was a lovely host. He was flexible with our check in and offered tips on the neighborhood and trains. The room was very clean and everything was perfect.
Everything was effortless staying with Daniel.
Location: Perfect! So close to the subway. We were able to use the 5 line the entire home so commuting back and forth was easy. The neighborhood was safe and clean.
Daniel's Home: It was a creative and visually appealing home to explore. Our room was cozy and quiet. Laundry was free! His kitchen and bathroom has all the amenities you could want. We were able to park our car in a gated driveway.
Daniel was a kind person who was easy to talk to. His adorable cats were an added bonus!
Daniel is a super nice and relaxed host, who helped us wherever he could. We also liked his perfectly located apartment a lot :) thank you! Simon and Joana
Daniel's place is very close to 2 subway stations and local stores. Heading into Manhattan is very easy and it is nice to stay in a quiet neighborhood after a busy day exploring the city. The bed is super comfy and the shower spacious. Overall a nice quirky basement brooklyn apartment :)
Very nice person - Daniel. And creative room and place. Please take a look if you want to enjoy original New York culture.
Daniel is a pleasant and accommodating host, and was very helpful with tips for my stay in NYC as well as helping retrieving my bag, delayed at the airport. The basement flat has lots of personality -plenty of cool stuff to look at - and the room was clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again!
