Planning on visiting NYC or need a temporary place between moves? Come for a stay in our guest room!
Located in the historic Crown Heights neighborhood, our brownstone apartment is conveniently situated across Prospect Park from the Park Slope area and within walking distance of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, The Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, The Brooklyn Children's Museum and the newly restored Brooklyn Public Library(Main Branch).
The area has an eclectic taste which reflects the diversity of cultures inhabiting it. Crown Heights has some lovely architecture and a variety of peoples and shops, ranging from variously hatted and top-coated Orthodox Jewish residents to vegan Rastafarian Afro-Caribbean restaurants and college students.
The guest room is quite cozy and there is a very comfortable full size bed, a full-length mirror, a nice desk with an overhead light and a spacious closet. The room has everything that you might need, including a travel adapter for your electronic devices and a large vanity mirror over the desk.
You may be sharing the common areas with 2 other guests, as I have 2 other guest rooms. I live here alone, but the other guest rooms may or may not be occupied during your visit.
So, why is this better than staying in a Hostel? We offer lot's of Free amenities: Secure Wireless internet, free laundry machines and a kitchen with great tools and culinary gadgets. For all you shoppers, the bathroom has a weight scale that you can use to weigh your luggage before heading off to the airport!
In the backyard there is a small garden with a beautiful row of Rose bushes and tomato plants. We also have bicycles(and helmets) that you can use to ride around the neighborhood. As an added bonus, we are half a block from the Subway! The 2,4 and 5 trains all run express into downtown Brooklyn and Manhattan. There are also several buses nearby that run towards Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Bushwick.
If you are driving, we even have a secure backyard (with a locking gate) for you to park in.
Discounted rates available for longer stays as well. Just ask :)
Everything you'd expect in a home setting is available for you… Clean kitchen and bathroom, a refrigerator, a nice living room and access to my personal treasures: Large music collection, Books, Musical instruments, etcetera.
Interaction with Guests
I like to make people feel at home and welcome, but I also strive to meet each guests individual requirements… If you want to hang out and share a nice conversation or would rather keep to yourself, I'm happy either way. :)
I'm always reachable by cell phone and happy to help with directions or recommendations.
The diversity of people and cultures are what drew me in to this neighborhood Also the fact that it is a family area, which provides a little sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of busy areas like Manhattan.
The 2, 3 and 5 express trains leave from less than half a block from my front door and cover all of your transportation needs.
Other Things to Note
As of January 2015, this guest room has been completely renovated!
Over the past 3 years I have taken note of all the suggested improvements and occasional complaints, and fixed every single issue! The bedroom walls are now fully soundproofed and insulated for your privacy and comfort. I've completely eliminated the musty smell that a few people mentioned in the past(removed and replaced some old pipes in the wall that had decayed) and replaced the murphy bed with a proper frame and new full size mattress. By removing an old storage closet and shelves, I have been able to reposition the bed. This has really opened up the floor space and made the room a million times more spacious.
I added two air vents to let in plenty of fresh air from the outside and waterproofed/sealed the stone wall along the back of the room and painted it bright white. There is also a new window over the desk to keep the air flow moving and to let in a bit more natural light.
I spent over $2000 on the renovation and did the work myself, so that It was done right! It was totally worth it. :)
Basically, I'd like you to feel at home here and treat the place as you would your own. My only real rules are:
-No smoking of anything indoors! You may use the backyard to smoke, as long as you put your cigarette butts in the trash.
-Keep things clean! Wash your dishes and wipe down counters/stove if you have prepared food.
-Recycle! If you are unaware of the importance of recycling by now or are just too lazy to do it, then I might just have to smack you upside the head! ;) PLEASE, recycle all of your paper, cardboard, boxes, bags, cans, juice/milk cartons, plastic and metal. I have clearly marked bins for each in the Kitchen.
-No super loud music/movies from your laptop, ipod, etc. Use headphones; especially in the early morning or after 10 pm in the evening.
We really enjoyed our stay in NYC. Daniel's place is really well located and close to subway. Instructions provided made it a breeze to find the place from JFK. Didn't really get to have a chat with Daniel so much as we were out all day and absolutely beat by the end of it. The cats are adorable and non intrusive.
The bed was comfortable and the shower was great. Had to wait for a shower and can hear your neighbour a bit, but earplugs provided sorted it. And pre-warned about additional guests in advert. Chargers were a welcome addition in the room. A good price for New York. Would def stay here again. Be sure to check out terrace bagels for a Reuben. And head in to Williamsburg they were highlights for us. :)
We enjoyed our stay at daniel’s apartment very much. It was a small, nice and clean place in the basement as advertised. Daniel is a very friendly, helpful and uncomplicated host and we will book his room again on our next trip to New York!
Daniel's room is exactly as advertised. It was a perfect little basement hideout for my short trip in Brooklyn. Daniel was accommodating although I only met him once during check-in. I particularly loved his records collection, his cats, and the fact that he sometimes put some music on for guests. It can get a bit noisy at night (especially during the weekend), but nothing unbearable. Oh, and the subway was only a few mins walk away...
Overall a pleasant stay.
Room was cozy indeed, I had a great time in NYC and I would definitely stay at Daniel's again!
As I said before I booked for a bit longer because Daniel has such a great place to stay. Really enjoyed my time there would absolutely recommend this listing!
I arrived very late while Daniel was out of town but he proved prompt and really helpful instructions on getting to his place. It's a great location and his got two lovely cats to keep you company. Once I finally got to meet Daniel his very kind and welcoming host. I actually decided to extended my stay because it was such a convenient room, would totally go back again!
I just wanted to let you know that My other guest room will be available from the 16th of February through the end of the month, just in case you need another place during your time in New York. I also wanted to apologize for such late notice on the day you checked out! I forgot to mention there was another guest arriving and feel terrible for disturbing you.
Regardless, I hope you are having a nice time!
I've stayed at Daniel's place three times. I know the place will be clean and comfortable. It's always nice chatting with Daniel and walking around the neighborhood. Always a pleasure.
