The Space

*** 2 Tickets For Monterey Bay Aquarium For You***

Beautiful separate Private Guest Suite in Carmel Valley on 2 acre estate behind the exclusive Bernardus Lodge and Spa in the prestigious Miramonte/La Rancheria area ~ located in "The Valley"...only minutes to Carmel/Monterey/Big Sur activities. Escape the fog and cold and come home to the beautiful warm country-side of Carmel Valley within minutes! This is truly THE GREATEST location to be while visiting the Monterey Peninsula. This separate Suite is surrounded by Grand Oak Trees and plenty of wildlife. Enjoy the deer, wild turkeys, fox and various other wildlife from your bright and sunny suite or enjoy a glass of wine on your private patio by the fire pit. This Suite has a very comfortable full sized bed with freshly ironed linens and a yummy heated mattress pad, private bath, cable, Flat Screen TV, free Wifi (sometimes sketchy due to location and/or internet service) , Bose radio, iron and ironing board, small mini refrigerator, microwave, hair dryer and a coffee machine with complimentary coffee and a tea machine with complimentary tea. There are also plates and utensils should you desire to bring home takeout. If you need to use laundry facilities, just ask. The entrance to this property is stunning and you will have your own private entrance and parking...very private and self contained. This Romantic Suite is filled with antiques and all amenities you could want and need. Luxury towels, linens and scrumptious robes are available for your use. There is also a BBQ area should you want to do some grilling. Also as my gift to you, you will receive 2 tickets to the World Renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium! If you have requests for any special arrangements, please contact me and I would happy to help in any way. I've assembled a listing of sites to see, restaurants and wineries and many other things to do that Monterey County has to offer. Your suite also contains a great collection of books, movies and cd's . I am on site occasionally to help you make the most of your stay and will make sure you have the most memorable visit. I am able to be reached via the internet for any questions or recommendations you may have. Grey Gardens will definitely end up being your home away from home when you visit the Monterey Peninsula and you will hopefully want to come back again and again and share with your friends.

NOTE: Please bring flip flops or slippers so you can go back and forth to the fire pit. The room has everything you could possibly need except this. You could really just come with your clothes and you'd be fine. ENJOY.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

  • My first impression of the guest suite was of the host, Linda, when she sent me a very warm and friendly welcome-message. I knew right away we'd be a great fit. Linda was indeed hospitable, showering us with complimentary sparkling lemonade (to accommodate our non-alcoholic preference) upon arrival. She was also very thoughtful, providing all the niceties of a luxury hotel, and helpful with suggestions for recreational activities/sights/services in the area. There are also pets (dogs and a cat) on the property that will give you a very friendly welcome - though they won't disturb you and are largely invisible unless called.

The guest suite is small but cozy, rather than cramped, and rather quaint with old-fashioned furnishings and decorative pieces. It's the perfect blend of the old and the modern. The bed is fitted with an electric blanket for cooler evenings while the windows are screen-covered to keep insects out while open during the warmer months. The scene from the suite is idyllic: green grass and tall shady trees, the silence of the valley filled only with bird-song. Linda insists that, at night, guests star-gaze while reclining on loungers by the fire pit, and I recommend this too. If you're a city-dweller needing a country-side escape, this is the perfect place.

Linda mentioned that her aim was to provide as many conveniences as possible so that guests need only bring clothes and slippers (for the outdoor fire pit). Indeed, she provides everything else: toiletries, towels, linen, bathrobes, tea, coffee, utensils, TV, DVDs, books... And if she doesn't have what you need, she'll do her best to provide it or point you in the right direction! (For example, she helped my husband and I locate the nearest sports store when we realized we'd forgotten our hiking shoes!).

Though there is no cooking facility in the suite, Linda does provide a microwave and a mini fridge for snacks or takeaways. There's also a BBQ grill and picnic table in the garden area. But this is wine and fresh food country so there are plenty of excellent eateries within a few minutes' drive from the suite. We enjoyed Earthbound organic cafe, The Wagon Wheel, and Baja Cantina and Grill. If you plan to visit Big Sur, I also highly recommend the Big Sur Bakery.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Linda's guest suite and we were sad to leave. Linda was very flexible with our check-out time and so we had a leisurely last morning (which helps after a full weekend of sight-seeing!). There is so much to see and experience in this corner of the country that we'll definitely be back, and Linda's place will be at the top of our list for accommodation!

  • Our stay was exactly what we had hoped for!

  • Linda was a wonderful host and Grey Gardens is a beautiful place to stay. The rooms is well equipped with everything you could need--all the way down to the toiletries in the bathroom and the complimentary wine and chocolate on our first night. The space was immaculate and the linens and towels were top notch. I felt like I was staying in a five star hotel, except better, as we awoke to the sun beaming in through the picture windows overlooking Linda's beautiful property. We spent both nights cozied up around the amazing fire pit on the comfy outdoor furniture.
We followed Linda's advice to dine in Carmel Valley instead of going into town and were SO glad we did. Will's Fargo is an excellent, classic steak house and the Wagon Wheel's breakfast is not to be missed.
This location is perfect for anyone taking a weekend trip from San Francisco-as we did. Explore Big Sur, Monterey, Carmel by the Sea, and find yourself cozy and comfortable at the end of the day at the luxurious Grey Gardens.
Linda will make sure your vacation is easy, fun, comfortable, and full of great meals. Anyone would be lucky to have her as a host.

  • Highly recommended! Linda knows how to treat her guests. The home and property are truly amazing. It feels like a luxury hotel (comfortable bed, quality linens, peace and quiet) without the high price. When I'm in the area this is the first place that I check for availability. I've stayed here before and I'll definitely stay here again! Thanks Linda!

  • If there is a perfect airbnb place - this is it. Linda is a wonderful host. The place is just great and the location excellent. It was absolutely clean and perfectly organised to the very detail. Highly recommended!

  • Linda's photo is in the dictionary next to the word "hostess." She embodies the meaning by making sure that every little thing is taken care of and puts a lot of energy into making you feel at home. The room itself is quaint yet sophisticated; high-end linens, great mattress, private entrance, and a gorgeous view. The patio out back is perfect for a romantic evening with a bottle of local wine or just a place to kick your feet up (email hidden). I've already recommended her place to many of my co-working in our San Francisco office as the perfect getaway for a weekend. Don't miss out on this one before it becomes too popular to get a booking! Thanks Linda!

  • This is review is long overdue. Linda B is a wonderfully thoughtful hostess. Grey Gardens was quiet, dreamy & private. Comfy accomodations, fine linens, plush robes & towels. She practically stocks any toiletry you may have forgotten to pack. We attended a wedding in Carmel, shared pics of Grey Gardens (& Sweetie Pie), family & friends agreed she is not charging enough & wanted details on how to reserve Linda's Grey Gardens. Scotty & I truly enjoyed our stay. It was fun getting to know you, thanks for all the laughter & conversations. We appreciated the wine, opportunity to visit Monterey Bay Aquarium daily (had we had spare time during wedding festivities), fresh fruit from local farmstand! We look forward to returning... spending time under a blanket of stars being soothed by those windchimes. We miss you, Verbie... wish you all the (website hidden) I look forward to texting or talking, should you mistake my cell for your daughter's, in the future. fondly, S2

  • Linda was absolutely FABULOUS! This was my first airbrb experience and Linda's beautiful resort set the standard high for other hosts.
Carmel is already a beautiful destination. Having the opportunity to stay at a place that is literally, "home away from home" is a big bonus. The photos do not illustrate the comfort, warmth, and coziness Linda's place has to offer.

Linda as a host was just wonderful. Linda made sure my mother and I had an itinerary and made sure we had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable.
Where else can you get a great host, super clean room with all accommodations you need, a friendly cat to announce a friendly, "meow" (be careful you will get attach if you like cats), and be close to everything possible (Carmel Valley Village, wineries, restaurants, golf courses, Carmel, Monterey). Did I mention you get to go to the wonderful Monterey Bay Aquarium????
You are in for a treat if you plan to relax or explore the beauty of Carmel/Monterey.
    Thank you Linda!

  • Linda is the perfect host. The cottage is perfect. The location is perfect. The grounds are perfect. Notice a trend? It's all true and if anything an understatement. We were in the Monterey area for the mid-August car crazies--historic races, car shows and automobile concourses. Linda's cottage is six miles up Carmel Valley Road from Highway 1 and unlike the hustle, bustle and crowds of places in Carmel, Pacific Grove and Monterey, it's beautifully rural, quiet and expansive. At the same time, it's convenient to Laguna Seca raceway, and other attractions. Linda is a marvelous designer and cottage reflects exquisite taste. It was spotlessly clean and very well organized. The only thing better than looking out the wall of windows into the tree shaded grounds was going down the stairway to the fire pit and sitting in the evening by the fire. Linda graciously provided wood. She also provided recommendations to great restaurants and was a very well-informed guide. We had a wonderful time and our host and the accommodations were a big part of it. We're looking forward to our return next year and may come up with some other reason to go as well.

  • I can't say enough good things about my experience at Grey Gardens and with Linda. First, about the suite - - it has EVERYTHING you could possibly need. Linda has been really thoughtful and acted on feedback from previous guests. She has supplied coffee, tea, fridge, microwave, great bath products and towels, the most comfortable robes and now even a fantastic BBQ area. We had such a great time grilling and eating out by the fire pit enjoying a bottle of wine from the region. Linda is also a wonderful hostess. She has detailed itineraries for guests that are incredibly helpful - - it's everything and anything you could ask for in the area - - including a lot of insider information. She goes above and beyond to be helpful in anyway possible - including getting me a hot water machine for my tea, letting us do our laundry and leaving little chocolates in our room. Just a fantastic experience. I really can't say enough good things. STAY HERE!!!

    Response from Linda:

Dear were gracious guests and I am glad you enjoyed the time spent in Carmel Valley. May I please request a copy of your "Make Gourmet Meals On A Small Grill" recipe book when it's published? I'm still amazed. Anytime your in the area, please stop in and say hello...better yet, come for a stay, always welcome here. And thank you for choosing Grey Gardens and adding your footprint (new BBQ area) to my abode. Best to you and your honey...Linda B.

I have been living on the Monterey Peninsula for about 30+ years. When I first moved to the Peninsula I lived in Carmel for about 10 years and worked in the Monterey, Pacific Grove area then finally realized that I NEEDED SUNSHINE. It was a rare occasion to have beautiful sunny days instead of the wet fog that was freezing not to mention the mold.. So I felt if I wanted to be done with cold and drearyiness , Carmel Valley is the most perfect weather...if I wanted to go to Carmel, I could drive to it within minutes but it was critical to come home to sunshine, warmth and beautiful vistas ~ almost all year round. I purchased this rambling ranch home in Carmel Valley about 17 years ago and it's been a work in progress ever since. It was built in the early 1960's and I have done a total make-over of this large and rambling ranch. This 2 acre property is beautiful and you never know what animal will greet you in the morning by your window and the temperatures are perfect! It's also the perfect location to get to all the area's of the peninsula but come back to a warm climate. I love to build, design and decorate homes. I had an antique store for many years here and so my home and Guest Suites are full of antiques I have found throughout my travels. I always say I will never do another remodel or build another home, but I guess never say never. I've discovered that a great house is never done and this one is one of those. I am well traveled, read extensively. love antiques and like to garden and work on my property. I love eating out and visiting the wonderful wineries that the Monterey Peninsula has to offer. I think there are over 400 restaurants in this area, so you will never be bored with any dining experience. I have traveled very much ~ all over the world, therefore I have knowledge on what a traveler wants and needs...and so have therefore decided to open up my Guest Quarters for travelers to give them a once in a lifetime experience of the Monterey Peninsula. Please come and join me at "Grey Gardens"'ll love it and never want to will always be your home away from home!
