About this listing
We have a private room in our beautiful and spacious apartment in Montreal's Mile End. The neighbourhood is wonderful; you'll be walking distance to many of the city's hot spots.
We have a private room with double bed for your stay. The apartment is large, on a quiet street and shared with 3 young professionals and 3 cats. The room is small and located by the kitchen.
This is a happy, communal apartment. We like to share meals and chat about our days. Staying here means having three friends tell you about the best spots to go for brunch (or midnight snacks).
The apartment is next to all the cool stuff. All the cool stuff you want to do in Montreal? It's next to us.
Guests have access to all communal space: kitchen, balcony, backyard, living room, reading nook and bathroom.
There is a washer and a dryer for you to use, if you wish. We also have a fully-equipped kitchen if you'd like to cook your own meals.
There is Wi-Fi in the apartment, but it doesn't work well in the room we're renting. However, there is a "office space" we encourage you to use, if you need to do work.
Interaction with Guests
If we are not at work or out enjoying Montreal's cafes or parks, we're happy to spend some time with you and answer any questions about things to visit in the city.
The apartment is close to everything! There are numerous cafes, restaurants and parks nearby. A local farmers' market is down the street in the summer and autumn. To get downtown, you can take a stroll through Jeanne-Mance Park along the mountain or an 8-minute bus ride will take you straight to Place des Arts (perfect for festivals!).
The famous bagel shops, St. Viateur and Fairmont, are just a quick walk away - as are Montrealer's favourite cafes, Olympico and Cafe Social. We are right nearby the popular tam-tams in the park on Sundays as well as some of Montreal's most well-known and busiest shopping streets, Mont-Royal, St. Laurent and St. Denis.
It's easy to get around by foot, but there are also bixi bicycles to rent by the hour and several bus lines that run within a few minutes of the apartment. There is overnight street parking nearby.
Other Things to Note
We have three adorable cats.
On parle français und ein bißchen Deutsch.
We welcome people of all colours, orientations, and genders. Sadly the apartment is not wheelchair accessible.
If you want to smoke, we ask that you go on the balcony. Shoes off inside, please.
Arriving at Caroline's was easy, comfortable. The apartment is open, clean and the cats are as kind and open as the housemates. I really appreciated the hand-drawn map of spots in the neighbourhood to help me navigate my surroundings
Overall, my friend and I had an enjoyable time during our four nights here. Though they were not around during our stay, Caroline and Alisa were extremely responsive to our questions and messages the entire time. They also left us a map with local restaurant and cafe recommendations.
Our room was located just off the kitchen, and the bed was a comfortable fit for two. The door swings itself open by a few inches if you don't latch it and it cannot be closed from the outside-- this may be a problem for those desiring privacy. The curtain on the bedroom window is beautiful, but it has strips of sheer fabric and we didn't feel comfortable changing in the room after dark, even with the curtain fully drawn.
As others have noted, Caroline and her roommates have three friendly cats. Unfortunately, a litter box in the bathroom made the space smell and the bathmat was sandy from cat litter. Because neither Caroline nor her roommates were in town during our stay, they told us they had asked friends to come by the apartment to take care of the cats. However, one of them startled us awake at 3am on our last night, somehow letting himself into the apartment despite the locks and door chains. The abruptness and lack of warning really left us unsettled, but given the peculiarity of these circumstances, I do not think it is likely to happen again. Alisa reimbursed a portion of our fees in compensation, and we felt that the matter was resolved responsibly.
All in all, the apartment was comfortable and had a lot of character. It was great to have a comfortable home base to come back to after a long day of walking around Montreal.
We did a lot of airbnbs for the last month and this one is unfortunately on the bottom of our list. The location is great and the hosts were very friendly, but the cat litter box is in the bathroom and it smelled terrible. Some other things that could be improved is a proper curtain in the bedroom and a door that locks. Also the towels had some cat hairs on them.
We're so sorry you had a bad experience, we're trying to do better, but obviously we're not up to snuff yet! Thanks for the feedback, we'll definitely take it into consideration. Using cats as towel warmers is probably not a good idea :P
But seriously, we will work on it.
The girls are, as many other guests feel, extraordinary hostesses. In particular, we feel obliged to acknowledge the following actions, because they are not just what regular hosts do.
• Caroline lent us several jackets and sweaters for the cold days we had.
• Alisa helped us to get correspondence in the house.
• Patricia connected her printer for printing our F1 tickets.
The location of the house with respect to the transport network, shops and restaurants, is great.
We definitely recommend this spot for a short stay!
Caroline and her roommates were indredibly friendly, open and helpful. They really made me feel at home and gave me great tips for exploring the city. The apartment is located in a really great and walkable neighborhood with lots to do. There are also several buses close by that can take you downtown super fast.
