This quiet retreat nestled in a residential woodland area of the bluff along scenic Great River Road near Ferryville, Wisconsin is your place to get away from it all and enjoy some great fishing, boating, hiking, and exploring local history and river towns. Discover Native Mound Builder areas. Unique local shopping and dining opportunities also abound. Something for everyone! Pet friendly, with a one-time fee per visit of $50.

The space
The cabin/cottage is modified A-frame construction with partially open "Loft-type" (no bedroom doors) sleeping area divided by an enclosed bathroom and stairway. We have outfitted the cabin for comfort, with all the linens, kitchen and BBQ tools, and laundry supplies you would need. There is air conditioning both upstairs and downstairs for hotter days, as well as ceiling fans in each room. A small LP gas furnace with thermostat is available for use on chilly days but is turned off during the summer.

Where you’ll be

Ferryville, Wisconsin, United States

Spirit Mound sits approximately 500 yards from the Mississippi River, halfway up the bluff over Great River Road WI35. The area surrounding the cabin is hillside woodland, dotted with prehistoric native mounds (see Polander Mound Group, Wisconsin). The setting is a rural neighborhood with one permanent and one seasonal neighbor. The atmosphere is quiet with morning and evening choruses of birds (and the occasional distant freight train rumble). There are lots of outdoor activities, festivals, flea markets, and local shops and crafts to stay as busy as you want to be. The river itself is magnificent but calming at the same time, so has a very special draw for our family. Picturesque river towns move at their own pace, and the people are friendly and open.

Dan and Jan Whetstone live in Toddville, Iowa just north of the City of Cedar Rapids. Both being from the Midwest, we are soon-to-be retired professionals who have worked hard and enjoy life. We have a combined family of seven children and six (soon to be seven!) grandchildren. We love to cook, garden, and travel - and our German Shepherd Sarah and cat Bessie.
