Where to start! We cannot imagine staying in a nicer, more relaxing place with better hosts! We had a wonderful stay in an amazing place, and became good friends with Jan Poul and Linda (and Floe the dog!).
The house is set amidst stunning private grounds, surrounding by woodland but with plenty of open lawns, a small lake and a brilliant secluded swimming pool - paradise! The rooms were spacious, clean, comfortable and nicely furnished, fitting for such an impressive old building. It was very sunny and warm when we visited and our hosts put on a delicious breakfast out in the morning sunshine every day - a great start to the day!
We got to know Jan Poul and Linda very well. They are such a warm and friendly couple and want to get to know their guests. They have such a good knowledge of the surrounding area - restaurants, places to visit etc - and go out of their way to help. We had a good few glasses one evening of wine and chatted about life, the universe and everything. We hope they will visit us in Edinburgh!
The surrounding countryside is really idyllic - it is a hilly, rocky area with woodland coating the hills, and rough ground and vineyards on the lower ground. The excellent Lac de Salagou is well worth a visit. Very picturesque. The villages are not very 'touristy' for those who are looking for a more authentic experience.
In summary - perfect hosts, perfect accommodation and perfect surroundings. Very relaxing indeed!
We had a wonderful time staying with Jan Poul and Linda. We arrived and were welcomed with a glass of wine and the delicious meal they had prepared for us. A perfect start to a perfect four days. Our living space felt private, in spite of being in the main house (which is absolutely beautiful - a feast for the eyes) and our hosts were very sensitive in making us feel independent. The spacious grounds are magical and as the gîte was unoccupied we were able to use the swimming pool. It was a excellent base from which to experience the area (from UK fly to Béziers) and we took advantage of all the amazing places to visit nearby, starting with Pont-d'Arc with its amazing swimming. From the delicious breakfast onwards, we heartily recommend Le Moulin Haut!
Extremely recommendable! Our stay at Jan Poul's and Linda's place turned out to be absolutely perfect. Although the small cottage which is on the photos was already rented, they offered us a very nice, calm room with very good beds in their phantastic, large house, an ancient mill which they renovated with a lot of taste and on a high standard.
In addition to the room, they also offer a "table d'hôte" with three courses for a very reasonable price. We decided to go for it, and both the food and the wine were excellent.
Linda and Jan Poul themselves turned out to be very pleasant, open-minded and empathic people. We enjoyed the nice, inspiring conversation with them.
Especially worth mentioning: the phantastic breakfast in the morning which is included in the price. Very good!
The Hérault-Region around is incredibly beautiful and offers lots of lovely sights: from picturesque Lac du Salagou to several stunning villages like Morèze, St. Guilhem-le-désert or Lodève. Further north (more like a whole 1-day-trip), you'll be able to do rafting or kayak or canyoning on the river Lozère (Les Vignes is good for that).
Linda and Jan Poul will explain everything to you, they are really the perfect hosts!
