Charming private bedroom with attached private bathroom in a 2-bedroom apartment. The apartment is in the back of a traditional New Orleans shotgun. The room has a firm queen-sized bed with attached private bathroom w/ tub, and a walk-in closet. We provide towels, linens, hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc.
You have access to our kitchen, living room, laundry, Wi-Fi, deck, and elliptical. We have coffee, tea, almond milk, and filtered water.
The apartment is on hip Magazine Street and is six blocks from Whole Foods. Short walk to shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, gyms, and yoga studios. Very close to Audubon Park, Zoo, running trail (1.8 mile loop), and the Mississippi river front. We are a block away from one of New Orleans' po-boy shops, Guy's and six blocks to Le Bon Temps where you can hear live music almost every night of the week.
During Mardi Gras 11 parades march in front of the house.
It's a block to the Magazine St bus stop and about 8 blocks to the St Charles street car. ($1.25 / ride and $3 a day for unlimited bus/street car rides) It's roughly a $15 cab ride to the French Quarter and $35 (w/ tip) to the airport. Safe, free parking on the street.
We have two sweet cats and a german shephed who are not allowed in the private room / bath or outside (cats).
Guests have a private bedroom that is off the kitchen. Connected to their bedroom is a full, private bath and a walk-in closet.
The rest of the house is shared.
Laundry (also the host's bathroom)
Interaction with Guests
Our apartment is a 2 bedroom 2 bath so unless we are on vacation we will be living in the apartment as well. We respect your privacy and do our best not to get in your way. If you are not pet friendly then I would suggest looking else where . We enjoy getting to know our guests but are not offended if you don't want to hang out.
I really love that our neighborhood is quiet but within walking distance to tons of restaurants, bars, live music, a movie theater, grocery stores, and Audubon park. It's 6 blocks to Whole Foods and 8 to Winn Dixie (regular grocery store). We are 8 blocks to the Prytania Theater (made famous by A Confederacy of Dunces). We are walking distance to pizza, sushi, Mexican, breakfast, fresh juices, poboys, fine dinning, fantastic, local ice cream, and a french bakery. We are also 6 blocks from Le Bon Roule a great place to hear live music (usually free or for a cheap cover).
The Magazine St (#11) bus stops a block from our house. It will drop you at the beginning of the French Quarter. It's a short walk to the Tchoupatoulas bus and the St Charles street car. Our public transit system is definetly on "Island Time" meaning they are generally on time in the morning and begin to get off schedule as the day progresses. Once it gets late (past 10pm) I don't attempt trying to take the bus / street car because they do not run very often and are usually not at all on time at that point. It's a 15-20 taxi ride from Frenchman St (just past the far side of the French Quarter) unless it's a holiday or special event.
Biking is also a great way to get around New Orleans. It's best not to bike on Magazine St - better to take a side street. There is a bike shop near us that rents bikes (Mike the Bike Guy)
Other Things to Note
If you have pet allergies then it's your call on whether to stay with us. One cat likes to run under the guest bed when you open the door. She is easily removed by throwing a treat on the ground in the kitchen.
No smoking in the house (deck ok). 420 friendly.
No guns or weapons.
Please try to keep the cats inside / on the screened in porch. If you're going to be gone for a while please turn off the air conditioner.
**Always turn off the gas heater and any space heaters when you leave.
We recycle but we are not fanatical about it. Recycling is next to the trash can in the kitchen. You can recycle the following
- cardboard (no pizza boxes)
- PET boxes (almond milk etc)
- all plastic
- no glass ( I know it's weird)
I am a 31 year old artist, photographer, and decorative painter. I live with my boyfriend, Jonathan, our German Shepherd Apollo, and our cats Ignatius (aka Scooter) and Lulu. We both work for ourselves painting, photographing, and decorative painting.
We are pretty easy going. Both of us practice ashtanga yoga and enjoy watching movies. We both enjoy traveling and meeting new people which is why we enjoy hosting people in our home.
