My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our five day stay at Jia's. The information she provides in advance of the visit is thorough and accurate. We contacted her by phone and email prior to our stay and she was always prompt in her replies. Once we arrived everything went so smoothly that we never had the occasion to ping Jia during our stay.
This is a wonderful apartment, that is more spacious than the pictures give the impression, located in a wonderful neighborhood. The apartment is quiet with the occasional lovely sound of a violinist or pianist practicing.
We really wanted to have the feel of just living in the neighborhood and Jia's apartment gave us exactly what we were looking for. Every direction you stroll from the apartment there are wonderful shops and restaurants. We took a couple of her suggestions and had breakfast at the Coffee Tree. Garden Books has a good selection of English books and books on Shanghai. One we would add is Ba Yan Ka La on Julu road for soaps and lotions. There's so many and the beautiful sycamore tee lined streets are so inviting that you can't go wrong. When we arrived the apartment was chilly but after the heaters had been on for a bit the entire place was cozy. I was really impressed with how hot the water in the shower was and how long it lasted. It only took us 50 minutes from the Pudong airport to having our bags in the apartment and the fare was 160 RMB. Jia had arranged for the key to be left with the doorman and it was easy to get in.
We found the location very convenient and most times walked or took the metro (3 day pass 45 RMB). I think the most we paid for a taxi was 30 RMB to the art district at 50 Moganshan.
We would definitely stay here again when we return again to Shanghai. Thanks for letting us stay here Jia and for being a great host!
Adorable place, great location, wonderful stay in Shanghai. Jia was very communicative (even helping redirect some of my visa-related questions), though we didn't try to get in touch with her once we arrived at the apartment. The heaters were more than sufficient to battle the winter cold, and we really appreciated the filtered water available in the dining room.
Jia's place is wonderful, quiet and away from traffic. Location is fantastic. If you visit Shanghai, the French Concession is definitely the place you want to be in. Access to 2 stations with 3 lines are easily available within 10 minutes walk (3 minutes if the shortcut is available at certain times of the day). Great value for the price!
A spacious, super well located, fantastic apartment!
Jia's place is just like the photos, only more spacious! With just two of us, this place was almost too big! A well stocked kitchen with utensils, bowls etc. A dining room we barely used, separate lounge, washing machine, the list goes on!
Near to the subway and of course the restaurants round the way, the location of this place is great. It's safe and secure, the door man deserves a medal, give him a wave!
If there isn't a stove top coffee maker it was because I broke the handle washing it before we left, my sincere apologies following guest!
You might have a few options in the French Concession, Jia's place should be top of your list.
Amazing flat -- very tastefully decorated with great extras like purified drinking water and strong coffee. The flat is in a very charming area right next to the music school, so you have the pleasure of hearing musicians practice on occasion. Jia was responsive through email, and checkin/checkout was a breeze.
My Mom and I had a lovely stay at Jia's place. The apartment itself is great- clean and bright with a well-stocked kitchen. Plus you can hear music in the evening from the music school nearby which creates a lovely atmosphere. The neighborhood is great, lots of cafes, shops and expats. There are lots of maps and guides left in the apartment which were really helpful. The only complaint we would have would be communication before and after arrival- we got no or very delayed answers to emails, calls and texts. Other than that, once we were in the place it was fantastic!
We spent a week at this lovely apartment while visiting family in Shanghai and were thoroughly impressed with our choice of accommodation.
Located in the French area, the surrounding streets are beautiful and you can find everything you need without using the subway or a taxi. If travelling via subway the station is only a few minutes walk between 6:30-9am and 3:30-6pm via the neighbouring apartment block. Outside of those hours it's still no more than 10 minutes.
The apartment itself is in a 'good' area with two doormen on duty, a secure gate for the building and a front door that wouldn't be out of place in a bank vault!
Plenty of windows on both sides of the apartment ensure that it is always lots of natural light throughout, and the three air conditioners ensure it is comfortable even when it is unreasonably hot and humid outside.
Broadband is quick, and the washing machine has a fast cycle that's great for small loads while travelling.
The only negative for us was probably the restriction of toilet paper in the bin, BUT every other home in China appears to be the same so the only alternative to this would be to stay in a hotel.
We loved staying here and look forward to returning on our next trip to Shanghai.
