Interaction with Guests
--- Check In --- Check in options are flexible, as both of your hosts work full time jobs check in after 5:30PM (on weekdays) is the simplest option. Thankfully our work is somewhat flexible and as long as we establish good communication other check in times and options can easily be arranged.
--- Other Interactions With Your Hosts --- As stated previously both of your hosts have full time 9:00 to 5:00+ jobs. So weekday interactions will be limited. That being said both of us are very friendly and sociable, we'll be happy to give you sightseeing and restaurant recommendations, and time permitting show you around some of our favorite spots.
Our apartment is located just one block north of Central Park (30 seconds walk). Guests will have easy access to the hundreds of events taking place in the park every year, and you’ll find walking to the park is far more enjoyable than taking a train there.
Just down stairs is the restaurant / bar Cantina 1838 (we share the same address). So if you’ve been out all day and you’re not looking to travel far for dinner it’s a great option.
We’re located in the most southern part of historic Harlem, on the wide and beautiful 7th Avenue (also known as Adams Clayton Powell Junior Boulevard). Harlem is filled with classic New York brown stones and townhouses and is architecturally one of the most beautiful and distinctive neighborhoods in the city. If you travel further north into the neighborhood you’ll find tons of new shops and restaurants springing up, particularly along Lennox and 8th avenue.
Five minutes walk west along the park will bring you to the Upper West Side which is filled with restaurants and some of the best cheap eats in the city. As well as some great sights worth checking like Columbia University, Morningside Park and The Cathedral of Saint John the Divine (the largest Cathedral in the United States).
Finally we're a 10 to 15 minute walk from the "Museum Mile" between 105th and 82nd (5th avenue) on the Upper East Side.
The apartment is located one block from two subway lines: The B, C and the 2, 3 (which will get you to Times Square, 42nd Street in 15 minutes). Also we’re ten minutes walk east to the 110th street 6 train station which gives you easy access to the entire east side of the island.
Using public transportation you’ll be 30 minutes from anywhere in Manhattan (30 minutes to the Brooklyn Bridge, High Line Park, etc.). And 40 minutes or less away from some of the nicest locations in the other boroughs (40 minutes to Williamsburg Brooklyn, 30 minutes to Brooklyn Heights, 30 minutes to Astoria Queens).
Our apartment has excellent transportation options to and from both of New York’s major air ports.
LaGuardia (LGA) via cab is less than a 20 minute trip for approximately $25.00. Or you can use the M60 bus from 116th street (one subway stop away on the 2, 3), which will get you to LGA in about an hour.
John F. Kennedy (JFK) via cab is less than a 40 minute trip for approximately $60.00. Or you can use the C, E subway lines in connection with the JFK Air Train and get there in approximately one and a half hours.
House rules are simple, just use common sense and be respectful of your hosts, other guests and our neighbors. Please do your best to clean up after yourself when using the common spaces, and keep things at a reasonable volume particularly during the night / late evening.
Alex and his roommate were super sweet and very hospitable. The room was perfect and comfortable and clean, and the location was 1 block away from a subway stop. Can't beat the price either.
Both Alex and Sutirtha were wonderful - the circumstances of my travel being that I was there to sit for an exam they were very welcoming and accommodating - thank you! I wish them all the best and would definitely stay here again.
The room is spacious and the apartment is very classic NY Upper West Side, while the room is very nicely decorated and cozy.
The room is exactly as pictured and very roomy for New York (great if you have a lot of luggage!). Alex is super friendly and a cool guy to talk to. The area is convenient for multiple subway line access and is a 2 minute walk to Central Park north.
Alex was very accommodating. I was able to pick up the keys right after I got in, which made it so much easier than having to negotiate NYC with my bag. The apartment was easy to get to by public transportation, and I was happy to get from LaGuardia into Manhattan by a way new to me.
The room was really nice, but there is a tube in it that makes loud noises at 5 to 6 am, so it was hard to sleep. When we got there, the bathroom was dirty because Alex wasn´t home but when he arrived, he cleaned it. Still, too many people using just one bathroom. The apt is close to the metro station and the neighborhood was fine.
Alex was very nice, we didn't see him a lot because he works a lot, but he made sure every was taking care of and gave us great tips. The room is nice and clean with enough space. It's close to central park and multiple metrolines. Because it is next to a big street you, it is a bit noisy so if you are a light sleeper I recommend earplugs. It was also a bit cold in the room and you can't turn the heater on (it's central regulated). But Alex was very helpful and gave us is electric heater. The bathroom en kitchen is for sharing and sometimes a little less clean. I would recommend this place for sure.
