Williamsburg is an incredible neighborhood with tons of great restaurants and bars. It's also very convenient to get to anywhere in Manhattan.
There are multiple parks including McCarren Park (which also has a great pool in the summer).
The Apartment is about a 5 minute walk to the Lorimer L and JMZ stations (as well as the G train). You can reach union square or the financial district within 10 minutes and from there anywhere in Manhattan.
Off-street parking is available but is subject to alternate street city regulations (alternating weekdays).
Small dogs and cats are OK. We do require an extra security deposit for pets.
Absolutely no smoking indoors, but smoking in the yard is OK.
Really nice place. Good location. Super easy checkin! Spacious. Plenty of towels. Definitely recommended
We had a great time at Guy's apartment, which was well equipped and beautifully decorated. With the kitchen facilities, you can be completely self-sufficient. Guy wasn't at home when we arrived, but we met him the next day and he was very helpful, sorting out any remaining questions we had.
We stayed for 5 nights (3 girls in our thirties). We thought it was perfect for us and good value for money. We literally used the flat as a place to sleep though and get ready for long days out in NYC.
The local area takes a bit of navigating but we quickly became comfortable with getting around, especially using the Lorimer Street L train. Don't forget to get a weekly subway pass for 30 USD, much cheaper and simpler than buying individual tickets if you are in NYC for more than a few days.
We used Uber to get around locally too, very easy. We also used Uber to get back from dinner in Manhattan a few times and it cost about 30USD which wasn't a lot between the three of us.
There is WIFI at the flat that works really well if you don't have data.
We recommend the tiny Italian on the corner (Testo) if you get in late from the airport for some dinner. Graham Ave has a nice strip of restaurants including a nice Mexican place and Greenpoint has the Ides rooftop bar at the Wythe Hotel which has great views. Berry Park is less swanky but fun, also with a rooftop bar, and nearby to the Wythe Hotel. It cost 8 dollars to Uber to that area.
If you want to buy groceries (e.g. coffee for the coffee machine) it may be best to go to Whole Foods or Trader Joes at Union Square (close to the subway). We did this and hopped on the subway home with our groceries - very easy.
The only thing to point out is that Guy and his family live in the house above the flat so there is noise around 6-7.30am in the morning from the family walking around upstairs. This didn't really bother us as we were up early every day anyway for sightseeing etc. If you are a light sleeper or want to sleep in you may want to take some earplugs.
Overall I would recommend this to friends and stay here again. Good value for money and a very accommodating host.
Guy was very helpful and welcoming for the stay. In particular I asked for some advice about emerging theater and he recommended an amazing piece nearby. The apartment was clean and exactly as pictured. The neighborhood is safe enough and reasonably well located. Guy's help and the lovely apartment made the trip a real success.
Accurate description; lovely apartment and pleasant neighborhood. Restaurants and nightlife were only a short walk away.
The place was great - exactly as pictured and described. The area seemed safe enough (I walked back from a late show with two kids and felt fine). We were welcomed and Guy checked in several times to make sure we had everything we needed. The street is a close walk to the Subway and getting in and around Manhattan and surrounding boroughs was easy. The street was quieter than some other places I've stayed in the city. We walked to some great local places to eat (highly recommend the trek to Sweet Chick on Bedford and 8th). The keys and getting in were simple. A book on how to run the air, wifi, and cable were helpful and the back yard was super cute. The couch sofa was deemed "ultra comfy" by the kids who are used to less-than mattresses as hotels. A hairdryer, voltage converter, extra pillows, nice towels, etc were available. We could hear movement upstairs but it wasn't bothersome or unusual in any way. We were happy with the experience and would stay again.
Everything was exactly as described. The neighborhood was great and seemed very safe. Very close to everything you could need for your stay. Will definitely try and book the next time we are in brooklyn. House was very clean and we'll taken care of. The garden space is fantastic.
