Williamsburg is an incredible neighborhood with tons of great restaurants and bars. It's also very convenient to get to anywhere in Manhattan.
There are multiple parks including McCarren Park (which also has a great pool in the summer).
The Apartment is about a 5 minute walk to the Lorimer L and JMZ stations (as well as the G train). You can reach union square or the financial district within 10 minutes.
Off-street parking is available but is subject to alternate street city regulations (alternating weekdays).
Small dogs and cats are OK. We do require an extra security deposit for pets.
Absolutely no smoking indoors, but smoking in the yard is OK.
Great location. Great apartment. Great host. The process was very easy and Guy was communicative and helpful. The apartment was clean and looked great (just as pictured). We would definitely stay there again.
The photos don't lie -- this is a good-looking and comfortable space in a nice location. We had a comfortable stay with a five-year-old in tow and were especially pleased to have a kitchen and eating area, not to mention a comfortable pull-out for the kid. While we did spend most of our time out of the apartment, we did use the cable TV and wi-fi when needed.
Unfortunately it was a bit too chilly this March to really take advantage of the private backyard, but I'm sure it's a plus when it's not barely above freezing outside. Speaking of which, this is a tiled basement room, so if you're here in colder months you might want to bring slippers or thick socks. You can adjust the temperature, though, which is great!
(You'll also need to bring your own toiletries as this isn't an Airbnb rental that provides them, but that's something you might do anyway when travelling.)
Guy is a proactive host, responding to emails very quickly and always making sure you have the necessary information in advance -- directions to the apartment, tips about the space and the neighbourhood, as well as maps and a few menus. It's easy enough to discover the surrounding area for yourself, though. Pretty much everything you need is within walking distance, too, and it's a short subway ride into Manhattan.
We had a fine time in this apartment and recommend it, particularly if you have a kid or two. There is at least one child living upstairs, and you'll occasionally hear the patter of little feet in the earlier hours of the morning, but it's not disruptive and if you have kids yourself it's just par for the course. Plus, you're in Brooklyn, there's traffic and there are loud passersby and that's just the way it is. It's actually not as rowdy as it could be, honestly.
Enjoy your stay!
P.S. In response to a previous review from Karen, there is a full-length mirror in the apartment now, and it comes in handy for sure.
P.P.S. Thanks again to Guy for letting us check out a bit later than the standard! We really appreciate it.
Guy lives a level above with his family, but does not disturb you at all. On the contrary, he is extremly willing to help and always available if something is needed from him. The room has everything necessary for a stay, including an equipped kitchen. Even though 4 people can easily stay in the appartment for a short period of time, the room is more suitable for a couple. Overall, I enjoyed staying in Guy's apt and meeting Guy.
Guy was extremely helpful, communicative, and friendly during the entire reservation process. The apartment was cute, clean, and well located to subway stations and great restaurants/bars. I would recommend his place to Williamsburg visitors.
Guy's studio was exactly as pictured and a perfect spot for our plans to visit with our sons who live in Williamsburg. The weather was dreadful, so the space heater Guy thought to drop off was appreciated. The place was appointed with extras we don't always count on - soap, shampoo, salt, oil, sugar and a guidebook with local resources. We did hear little footsteps in the morning, but they always made us smile!
We really enjoyed our stay here. Everything was as listed. All that we needed was in the flat - I was so glad to find a hair dryer as we were coming from abroad so couldn't bring our own. One suggestion for the flat is to add a full length mirror - there is only a small mirror in the bathroom and that's the only thing the apartment lacked IMO.
I will say that we chose a bad time to visit NYC. It was the coldest week of the year. As such, the boiler system struggled to keep up. Guy was very responsive when I pointed this out and provided a space heater which really helped to keep the flat warm enough. It was still a little cold as it's a basement flat w tile floors -- just something to keep in mind if you plan to visit in the dead of winter like we did!
