The Space

Located in the heart of inner SE Portland in the famed Hawthorne District, the Rosebud is a happy throwback to your grandma's guestroom. From your private room - perfect for a single person or a cozy pair (queen bed) - you will enjoy a garden/street view in a quiet city neighborhood with coffee shops, gourmet markets, restaurants and bars within easy walking distance. Separate, semi-private bath with tub/shower. WiFi access and on-street parking included. Also, we have air-conditioning and, in the summer, you will want it. Trust us. Please note that a morning cup of coffee is guaranteed but breakfast is not included

From our choice location you can easily explore quirky Portland via foot, bike, bus, light rail or car. At the Rosebud you're only minutes from downtown, the Pearl district, the Oregon Convention Center the Rose Garden Arena (and many actual rose gardens), a variety of theater and music venues, eating and drinking establishments, Powells Books, Mount Tabor Park (and lots of other parks too!), the Waterfront/Esplanade and all the public transportation you could possibly need. Only an hour's drive away, the Columbia River Gorge is paradise for walkers, hikers, windsurfers and golfers alike.

The friendly Meehan family includes two fluffy, lovable dogs (Bear the Pug and Jack the Golden Retriever) who can leave you alone...or not. You tell us.

  • Hilary was such a gracious hostess. She made me feel very welcome. She even had a white noise machine so I wouldn't be bothered by family noises. Very thoughtful.

  • We had a great stay at the Rosebud. Hilary and her family are extremely nice and welcoming. Hilary was a great host and we really appreciated her answering all of our Portland questions. The room was nice and clean and the location was perfect for us. There were so many cute shops and great restaurants in the neighborhood. We would definitely stay there again.

  • The Rosebud and Hilary were the best.
This was my first time ever using Airbnb and they made my trip.
    Very clean and comfortable
I will be back to visit Portland and will be checking back in with Hilary and the Rosebud.

  • This was my first AirBnB experience and it could not have been better. Hilary, Phil, and Sean were the most amazing hosts. We arrived very late the first night, and Hilary was flexible enough to work around our schedule to make it all work out. The room was clean and stocked with everything we could have needed!

The entire family gave wonderful suggestions on what to do during our first visit to Portland and always showed interest in our stories at the end of the day! :)

The Meehans' are amazing, caring people and I am so happy we had the opportunity to stay with them for a short time! I would definitely recommend staying here during your visit to Portland. Not only is the neighborhood beautiful, but so is the house and the family that lives in it!

NOTE: We were unfamiliar with the layout of the city before we arrived and were worried we'd be staying too far from the city or things to do. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE! We got the chance to run every morning from the house and found that downtown Portland was only a short 2 mile jog away! The Meehan home is in a PERFECT location for travelers!

  • Hilary was wonderful! My fiancé and I were visiting my parents in Portland and just wanted to have a night to ourselves. Hilary picked up on our "here but not" vibe immediately and gave us some quick and well chosen dinner suggestions then sent us off for our night on the town. The room was cozy and private. The room, like the rest of the house, was decorated with an eclectic class that is unique to the whole city of Portland. Sweet and welcoming host, lovely accommodations!

  • We stayed with Hilary and family for three nights and it fit our needs perfectly. The room was very comfortable, the location great and the hosts (and dogs!) welcoming. We hope to visit the Rosebud
again on our next Portland trip.

  • We greatly enjoyed our trip to Portland - largely due to our pleasant stay at Rosebud. Hilary, Phil, Sean, Bear and Jack are friendly, knowledgeable and petable (only the dogs) hosts who welcomed us to their home. The location is excellent with good on-street parking, a beautiful neighbourhood and the Ladd rose circle at short walk away. The #14 bus whisked us to and from downtown in minutes. The room was inviting and comfortable. Thank you all!

  • Nice house in a very quiet lovely neighborhood. Wonderful bed, we slept so well. And we picked and ate raspberries from the back yard. Yum, what a treat. We were in Portland for the blues festival for three days. We brought our bikes and it was an easy ride to downtown.

Phil's a chef and Hilary's a writer. Their son, Sean, is a student, an athlete and - sigh - a teenager.
The Meehan's are a traveling family. As such, we strive to provide for our guests the comfortable, secure, well-situated space that we ourselves appreciate. At the Rosebud you'll have a private room, a cozy and comfortable bed, good pillows, reading lamps, a place to hang your clothes, a lock on your door, and wifi. Here's a little info about us: True to his Portland roots, Phil's the one to direct you to the best place for coffee, poetry or a good restaurant. He's also your source for off-beat Portland history and culture. Want to go mushrooming in the fall or clamming on the coast? Talk to Phil for suggestions. Want to talk sports or tell an off-color joke? Phil's your man. An Eastcoaster both by birth and inclination, Hilary loves to talk, give directions and keep everything neat and tidy (which, let me tell you, is not easy!). She strives always to optimize your experience at the Rosebud. Need a fluffier pillow or a shoulder to cry on? She's your go-to-girl. Want to sit down with a pleasant conversationalist over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine? That's her favorite activity! Want to be left to your own devices while you're with us? Hilary's got your back. Sean is a charming fifteen year old boy who would rather shoot hoops with his buddies, play video games, strum his guitar or listen to rap music than just about anything else. Like his parents, Sean enjoys food, books, sports, talking, and most particularly, laughing. Jack and Bear (Golden Retriever and Pug respectively) are happy cuddlers. During your stay we'll make sure you get as much - or as little - of their cuddling as you desire. Buddha is our kitten. He's, well, he's Buddha. Nuff said. Believe it or not, we're fairly quiet people except, sometimes, between the hours of 4pm and 8pm. We love sleep and prioritize yours as well. As for privacy, the door to your room has a key lock.
