About this listing
This is a lovely (at least we think so!) 1 bedroom flat, which can sleep four (such as a family with two children). The apartment has all the amenities you will need, i.e. bathroom and kitchen with appliances, including the washing machine and (NEW) dishwasher. The kitchen is separate from the living room. Sorry, we have no TV, but there are plenty of books. There is wireless internet throughout the apartment. We use the flat during the university term and are happy to rent it out during the vacations, such as during the Christmas holidays and sometimes for weekends. The apartment is located on the 2nd floor, counting from 0 and it has no elevator- please take notice of this if you have problems with stairs. More details about the apartment are in the "house rules".
NEW: This flat suffered from low water pressure, problematic for taking showers. We have now installed a power shower which creates its own pressure, heap, works great!!!
The flat is in a perfect location for exploring London and further afield. We are located just a short walk from Kings Cross/ St. Pancras Station. Kings Cross/ St Pancras gives access to 5 underground lines, making travel around the city quick and easy. There is also the Piccadilly Line which runs through Kings Cross, taking you to Heathrow Airport. From the St Pancrass station there are trains which run directly to Luton and Gatwick Airport.
You will find all you need in the local area. Close by there are a number of food shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. The campus of UCL and SOAS are within walking distance. Camden Town and the world famous market is a short bus or tube ride away, or a 20 minute walk. Equally you can be on Oxford Street in 5 minutes. This is the perfect location for you to explore London!
Everything mentioned above.
Interaction with Guests
I am a pretty good communicator, if you ever have a problem I am just on the other side of the email ...
The location is very convenient for the Eurostar train. The neighborhood is sort of bohemian, quite but not too gentrified, with art galleries (Gagossian just across the street), fun libraries, bakery shops ... And of course the British library!
This is one of the best connected neighborhoods in the city, King's Cross is basically on the every metro line and there are many buses too.
Other Things to Note
The small news (July 2014) is that we installed the dishwasher. Use it and the laundry machine if you like but please buy your own washing powder. There are many 24 hours shops within 1-2 minutes walk.
Just behave as you would in your own house, with respect to the place and to people around you. IF YOU ARE COMING ON THE DAY SOMEBODY ELSE IS LEAVING, OR VICE VERSA
There will be some changeover during that day. Depending on your time of travel, this may or may not effect you, but generally what we try to do is to ask the people already in the apartment to let the cleaning lady come in no later than 11:00 and she prepares your entry so that everything is ready no later than 15:00. You can in the meantime come and leave your luggage and the people already in may leave theirs until they leave. In the end it always works out! But it will be helpful to know the time of your arrival/departure.
The host was extremely kind and welcoming. She had other guests coming on the day of our departure and offered to cover half of our bag storage costs at St Pancras until our 5pm Eurostar. The apartment was also perfectly comfortable for two adults and two small children. It is very well located with Underground and bus lines connecting you quickly with most of the city.
There were some downsides - the flat itself is a bit run down and could use a much more thorough dusting and cleaning than it had when we got there. The bed sheets were in a bit of a sad state and the shower does not work very well. There is also quite a bit of noise from the street and rail yard if you need the windows open.
Overall it's a good deal and a nice flat in a very convenient location.
Pluses: Great location. 5 minutes walk to King's Cross/St. Pankras underground, plenty of bus options as well, safe neighborhood.
Also, good communication, fast response.
Fixable minuses: Housekeeping: trash left in the trash can, bathroom not quite clean, dishes not in ideal condition, etc.
Permanent (more or less) issues: The apartment is OK for 2 persons staying for 3 nights. Beyond that - you have to live out of your suitcases as there is only a couple of drawers to put your stuff and no wardrobe space at all, just a single hook on the wall in the hall to hang all your clothes (and no hangers) Having to unfold every evening and then fold back every morning the sofa bed does not help either.
Overall - it did not ruin our 9 nights stay, but it was not helping either.
Great location, and Mirna arranged everything really smoothly and was very responsive and quick to reply to my queries. Potential guests will want to confirm that the power shower is working -- we were only able to get lukewarm water from it and had to use the hot but very low pressure alternative.
The reception was good, welcoming us at the agreed time. We were recepcioned not by the owner, but by a kind of administrator.
The house was as described and easy to find, very central and close (walking distance) to one of the main stations in London. Close enough to have an easy access but not too close for the noise to disturb. Neighboors were quiet as well. Internet was great. Kitchen supplies worked fine.
The house was overall clean (room, kitchen and living room), but the bathroom was lacking a little bit: bath was not 100% clean and windows were quite dirty.
Main infrastructure issues were:
- No double beds, only a sofa bed or single beds;
- Shower simply did not work properly, small flow of water and hard to arrive at the right temperature;
Not a bad experience at all, overtall recommended.
Great location for a quick trip to london when your time is limited, right next to the tube station to and from heathrow! The apt lets you make the most of your time as it is no more than 10-15 min from every important location.
My experience in London was amazing! A big part of why it was so amazing was this flat. The location was superb only about a 2 minute walk from Kings Cross and St Pancras train station and the tube. That was really convenient in getting around the city through public transport. There are a few bakeries and groceries stores close by. The British library is about a 5-10 minute walk which is a nice quiet place if you want a break from the city bustle. The neighborhood was safe. We did not have any problems with anything. Mirna was a great welcoming host in allowing us to use her flat for the week. Overall it was a great experience and will do it again.
El apartamento estaba muy bien y su situación era muy céntrica. La proximidad con la estación de King's Cross es perfecta. No fue nada difícil ponernos de acuerdo con todos los detalles de la llegada y la salida y Mirna fue muy amable en todo momento.
