The Space

A peaceful, quiet room (30 m2) with a view on the inside gardens of the Herengracht. Like Anne Frank, you can see the Westertower from the big roofterrace. There is internet and a bike if you want. Bathroom and kitchen are shared. Be welcome in our community of 4; Franca, foto-editor from Italy, Bente, student art-teacher, Else, cook and student philosophy and Felix, my beautiful son of 10 years old.

Check also if Quirky 2 is available. If I am out of town myself which is during schoolholidays of my son, you can stay in the room downstairs.

The Neighborhood

I love my neighbourhood; its like a little village in one of the most beautiful cities of the world. Especially the fleemarket on saturday and mondaymorning around the corner

Getting around

The central station is a 10 minutes walk from my house. From there the train to the airport goes every 20 minutes and takes not more than half an hour.

  • Super eclectic apartment, Else was very welcoming and easy going. It's the best location in Amsterdam. The room itself is very unique, truly one of a kind.

The rooftop garden was my favorite part, a tranquil setting in a hectic city. Also, Else let me use her bicycle while I was staying there! Thanks Else!

I would recommend this room and would stay there again.

  • Else was an amazing host! I arrived around 930am and she was kind enough to delay her own plans to ensure I got settled and oriented in her place. She provided some good advice on getting around the city and even let me borrow a bike for the duration of my stay.

Her place certainly is quirky, but in a good way! I really enjoyed the private back terrace and the bedroom was large and the bed comfortable. The location was perfect - right on one of the canals and in easy walking/biking distance to everything.

I would definitely stay here again the next time I come back to Amsterdam!

  • Else was lovely--I loved the "quirkiness" of her place and it was so great to have a bicycle to get around! In my opinion, it's the best location in Amsterdam :)

  • The neighborhood the apartment is certainly beautiful. Else was very friendly even though we only interacted for a short time. Quiet room and a comfortable bed.

  • If location & character are your highest values, this place may be okay for you. If cleanliness and the absence of mice and their droppings are more important, keep looking. I wish I had. As pleasant and easygoing as the host appears to be (only met her virtually, not in person), my first Airbnb experience wasn't impressive. I won't be back to this home, and will think twice about trying Airbnb again. Maybe it's not for me, I like clean spaces.

  • Else's home was amazing, it is one of the most beautiful, unique homes you will ever see. The room was very clean and spacious, it when you step through the window you have a nice view of the garden which I found neat. The location is great! it is right in the center, walking distance from central station as well as all the beautiful sights. Else herself is a very inviting person and makes you feel comfortable in her home. I would defiantly recommend her space if you want a true dutch experience while in Holland. Thanks for all the great memories, I hope to be back in the near future!

  • Else,

Is a model host for Airbnb. Easy to communicate with and gave excellent direction to her home. She is extremely knowledgeable of Amsterdam and recommended great locations for food.

Quirky is definitely a great definition of the place, but the loving caring nature of Else is more than worth staying there. The room was a little cold, but the bed had a very warm comforter that went well with the comfortable bed.

For my backpack travelers this is a great place.

  • The name says it all! It was wonderful to be able to stay in this exclusive central district, a street of exquisitely restored 18th century mansions. It is only a few blocks away from the heaving zoo of the red light district, yet from the apartment all you can hear is birdsong and clock bells. This place was once a stucco-ceilinged palace, subsequently converted into an Aladdin's cave Hippy hangout. Yes, the (spacious) room is up a steep flight of stairs, and the bathroom-toilet is shared and downstairs, but if you are able-bodied and your suitcase weighs less than 20kg then it should not be too much of a problem. Else was very welcoming and relaxed, and prepared me a nice breakfast.

Since 20 years I live in this nice 'student house' which happened to be right above one of the most famous discotheques in Amsterdam in the 70 ties. Even Mick Jagger and David Bowie have been here! Now its one of the most quietest places, which I appreciate. But if you can play piano you're very welcome because we have one. Movies Louis Malle, Isabelle Huppert Music Latifa Raafat and Bach Books Dostojevski Absolutely Fabulous and travelling with my son to dangerous places without comfort but most of all... Nature! And of course I like to cook and have dinner with strange people like you...
