Escape from New York to this modern one-bedroom apartment within a hand-built, eco home in the Village of Rosendale, NY. A car isn't even necessary. From NYC the express bus (2 stops, 1hr. 45 min. from Port Authority) is a short walk to the house--and bicycle rentals are available next door to the bus station.
The owner is a green builder and furniture designer and the apartment is outfitted with unique materials and custom-designed furniture. This location is an outdoor enthusiast's dream with all the indoor comforts, coupled with a short walk to civilization. On the property there are rock cliffs, caves, and amazing nature. It's a 10-minute walk to the Mohonk Preserve--a place that The Nature Conservancy calls "one of the last great places on earth."
Accommodations include one bedroom with a queen-sized bed and a living room with a Sealy fold-out couch for up to two additional guests. You have a private entrance with a key-code lock.
A 100-yard walk to the just-renovated, 1000' long, 150' high "Walkway over the Rondout." This historic former train trestle is part of the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail (WVRT) which accesses over 85 continuous miles of hiking, trail running, cycling, and cross-country skiing. And just below this trestle is the nearest swimming hole. It's also a lovely and scenic riverside stroll to bars, restaurants, and historic movie theater on Main Street.
Come experience what it's like to have no indoor air pollution. The house and apartment were built and finished with virtually zero VOC's (volatile organic compounds). An allergy sufferer's dream, there's no smoke, down feathers, or pet dander of any kind. Fresh, filtered air is exchanged constantly via an energy recovery ventilator (ERV).
Rosendale is in the heart of the Hudson Valley and centrally located to visit all Catskill ski areas (30 to 45 minutes drive), Storm King, Beacon, and The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) and we're sandwiched between historic Kingston and New Paltz.
Rock climbing, ice climbing, and mtn bike guiding services are available. Massage can be scheduled in-house--or arrange a day-spa visit at the Mohonk Mountain House.
The flat has wireless internet and good cell service.
NYS occupancy tax is included.
Lets coordinate arrival times at least 24 hrs in advance. I appreciate a one-hour window of arrival. Please keep in touch with changes. I also ask guests to please call or text when about an hour away.

What a great stay in David's flat! My girlfriend and I took the bus in from Manhattan for a long weekend. David answered any questions we had beforehand and picked us up from the bus station (although it is about a 10-15 minute walk from the house). He was very helpful throughout our stay--always available to answer questions. The flat is true to the pictures--beautifully designed, clean, fresh and bright. It had everything we needed--including a record player! Rosendale was a great place to go to get out of the city--David's place is a short walk to Main Street where you'll find cute restaurants and bars. We were also in walking distance to hiking and a beautiful lake (swimming!). The locals were also extremely nice and welcoming. I would definitely recommend the flat and the town. Great visit!
There is a reason this host has over 150 stellar reviews. The apartment was very clean and gorgeously built. Lots of morning nature watching from the many windows or the cafe table and chairs just outside the front door. Every thoughtful amenity was provided including towels, basic toiletries, coffee, creamer, etc. David built everything on the property himself which I think added to the impressiveness of our stay. He was very kind and accommodating, picking us up from the bus station, recommending restaurants, and always available via text if we had questions. The 'guidebook' he provided has further excellent and clear tidbits. His property is beautiful, as is the main street of Rosendale, which was an easy walk. We did the 5-10 min jaunt multiple times (breezier on the way down!) and felt safe and comfortable at all times of day and night.
The folks we encountered at every place of business were amazing as well. Bywater Bistro has a gorgeous garden and wonderful menu and wine selection. The staff was so exemplary, the wedding we were in town for moved their after party here (last minute), and they catered to us well into the night. The Big Cheese was, as David promised, delicious as can be, and we ate there more than once. Soiled Doves was a wonderful antique store that we spent many hours in, it's owner actually driving us back to the bus station at the end of our stay. Even Billy B at the farmers market pointed us to some watering holes. What a town!
David recommends appropriate shoes for gravel and woods as opposed to, say, high heels and I do wish I'd heeded that advice a bit better. I was flip flops only, which I thought would be fine as I didn't do any 'hiking', but even if I'd thrown a pair of non-flip-flop anything shoes in, I would have been happy with that choice. It wasn't 'rugged' and I was totally fine, just would have liked to have had one pair of closed-toe sneaks or similar. If you have a car this may not be a concern and only mention it as an afterthought.
Final note: there is a record player setup for guest use, which we found really fun and had a good time making use of. Highly recommend David as host if you're in the area.
My boyfriend and I stayed at David's flat for a little under a week and had a lovely time. The flat itself was very comfortable, and most importantly, cool in the summer heat! I spent a good deal of time lazing in the backyard, reading and spying on the wildlife (birds, squirrels, and a very chipper groundhog). Main Street was only a 10 minute walk away, and New Paltz/Kingston are a short drive. David was extremely nice and helpful, always suggesting places to go, and even offered us free day passes to Mohonk. I highly recommend staying with him if you are interested in Hudson River Valley.
David's place was absolutely immaculate, well designed, and a pleasure to stay in. We especially enjoyed perusing the vinyl collection each evening.
The flat is only a ten minute walk from Main Street in Rosendale, where there are several cute restaurants and shops, and a farmer's market on Sundays. There's also a hiking/rail trail nearby, which has a beautiful overlook of the entire town.
A very nice and calming getaway from the city—would definitely recommend.
David was a great host and the space was beautiful - clean, bright, open - it looks just the way it does in the Airbnb photos. I would go back in a second.
David was an incredible host; so kind and helpful. It was said in another review and I will repeat it here: the apartment is even better in person than in the pictures. It is modern and cozy with an expansive, open feel. The setting for the flat is so lovely. The rock formations are gorgeous! It was the restorative and calming weekend we were looking for. We very much enjoyed the short walk into town and the shops and restaurants Rosendale had to offer. Thanks again, David!
This was our second time to David's flat and it was just as enjoyable as the first time. The space is beautiful, super clean, well designed and everything you need is there. His attention to detail makes the space such a joy to be in.
The place is situated in a beautiful nature area, is convenient walking distance to the town and amazing trails. I could go on all day about how much my family and I love this place.
Rosendale is a special town because it has a small town feel and the people are pretty terrific.
I agree with other people when they said this is one of the best Air BnB places they've been to.
Thank you David and Galen!
Excellent experience in all ways. David's flat is located in a very special natural setting with beauty, peace, wildlife, and lovely minimalism. While satying we enjoyed the antics of the groundhog who makes his life and home in the yard - easily visible from the windows of the flat, songbirds galore including a pair of Baltimore Orioles, and a variety of lovely woodpeckers. The town-setting of Rosendale is the nicest we came across in our several-days-exploration of the Hudson River Valley area. David is an easy host; aware of privacy but also of any guest needs in terms of advice for use in exploring the local area. Thank you to David !
Perfect. Relexing. Convenient. Not sure which was better the flat or the host. If anything, the place looks better than the pictures. David was friendly, accomoodating and helpful. Fresh flowers were a nice touch. The town of Rosendale is a hidden gem.
Another wonderful stay at David's glorious space! The warmest of hosts, David leaves no detail unattended. From the immaculate housekeeping to the softest of towels to his home-made "guide to the area", every touch made our weekend perfect. I have been here twice and I'm alreally planning my next trip back. Thank you!
