Interaction with Guests
I live here with one of my daughters and am available most of the time to help and advise guests on transport, local eateries and sightseeing.
West Lynn (part of Grey Lynn) is a central city suburb popular with artists, actors and musicians. Our street is very established, has mostly heritage houses and most of the residents have lived here for decades. (We have been here for 28 years and have a close relationship with all our neighbours.) West Lynn is one minute's walk away and is a favorite destination for Aucklanders as it has a great organic whole foods store, organic bakery, several great cafes and eateries, 3 bars, bookshop and 3 fashion stores. Supermarket and greengrocer is 10 mins walk. Farmers Market every Sunday morning at the Community Centre.
Excellent bus service to the City( takes 10-20 mins depending on time of day) is just at the corner and takes you through Ponsonby Rd which is a long strip of high fashion shops, top restaurants, cafes and bars, a great destination for a day's wandering. Down at the waterfront guests can pick up a ferry to Devonport or Waiheke Island (vineyards, restaurants, art trails, beaches) . The Link bus service takes you to other Auckland attractions - Parnell, Newmarket, Museum and Domain. There is free parking available in the street. From airport, guests can either get a shuttle to the door, or Airport bus to downtown where the 020 bus leaves from Britomart Place and drops you in West Lynn (one block from our house)
Other Things to Note
I live with my two daughters (one is traveling at the moment) and we live a very relaxed lifestyle. I would like guests to be able to relax in our garden and am very happy to chat and help with information about getting around and things to do. Our family has had fantastic stays in Airbnb places in London, Paris and New York and we are keen to offer similar experiences to travellers to NZ.
We have three cats and a small dog but they are not allowed in the studio ( in case of pet allergies).
Kate and her sunny garden studio are simply the best! I stayed for about a week last year and stayed again this year for about 9 days because I had such a wonderful experience last year. Kate is warm, welcoming and helpful with everything from directions to clean towels to having enough tea / coffee in the studio. I so appreciate how thoughtful she is.
The studio is super clean with comfortable, attractive decor, has a comfy bed and pillows with lovely linens, and there's a microwave, toaster, electric jug/kettle, silverware, plates, glasses, a small fridge, coffee, tea and the like. She also leaves fresh New Zealand yogurt and jam in the fridge as welcome gift, which I remembered from last year and enjoyed again this year.
There are shops, cafes and a bus stop about 3 minutes walk up the street and there's plenty of parking on the street if you have a rental car. The location can't be beaten; it's in an inner suburb of Auckland you have quick and easy access to downtown, motorways and bus lines that take you wherever you want to go. I also enjoyed walking around the neighborhood to the organic food market, banks, cafes, bookstores and restaurants nearby.
Since I spend a couple of weeks every year in Auckland, I'll be booking early next year to make sure I can stay at Kate's studio for my third year in a row. I highly recommend Kate and her lovely studio!
We arrived on time from the US and were greeted warmly by Kate herself. Kate welcomed us with fresh fruit, maps and gave us a brief intro to the Grey Lynn neighborhood. The lodging was PERFECT! Clean, comfortable for a couple and was very secure in her backyard.
We felt very welcome and had a great stay. Nice neighbourhood, with various restaurants nearby. Located about 50 minutes walk or 25 minutes on the bus to the centre. Couldn't have asked for more. Thanks :)
The Garden Studio was really lovely. Everything was as described and we loved to stay there! Thanks!!
Kate was very welcoming, with local menus and attractions available as well as bagels, fruit and tea items ready for us. The studio was great for two people, nicely set back from road and quiet. A great location; within walking and short driving distance from several restaurants, bars and shopping area.
Kate is a warm, welcoming, helpful person and a wonderful conversationalist. We found that we shared similar backgrounds and shared conversation about places to visit in Auckland and about all sorts of music.
About the Host, Kate
I live here with my 16 year old daughter (the 22 yr old is working and traveling overseas at present). I work as a classical musician but love most other sorts of music, especially jazz and contemporary. In my free time I love to go to movies, gardening,,vintage shopping, going to book club and eating out as much as I can afford to! I have recently been to New York for 2 weeks of art galleries, shows and endless walking and am keen to travel to more exotic places in the future, maybe India!
