For more than 60 years the Latvian House Bērzaine in Freiburg im Breisgau, southern Germany has been the meeting place of Latvians living in Europe. The old villa, located nearby the Zähringen castle ruins, was originally built in 1894 for the German poet Emil Gött and was later converted into an active Latvian culture centre and a guest house.
