Goa has two World Heritage Sites: the Bom Jesus Basilica and churches and convents of Old Goa. The Basilica holds the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier, regarded by many Catholics as the patron saint of Goa (the patron of the Archdiocese of Goa is actually the Blessed Joseph Vaz). Once every twelve years, the body is taken down for veneration and for public viewing. The last such event was conducted in 2004. The Velhas Conquistas regions are also known for its Goa-Portuguese style architecture. There are many forts in Goa such as Tiracol, Chapora, Corjuem, Aguada, Fort Gaspar Dias and Cabo de Rama.
In many parts of Goa, mansions constructed in the Indo-Portuguese style architecture still stand, though in some villages, most of them are in a dilapidated condition. Fontainhas in Panaji has been declared a cultural quarter, showcasing the life, architecture and culture of Goa. Some influences from the Portuguese era are visible in some of Goa's temples, notably the Shanta Durga Temple, the Mangueshi Temple and the Mahalasa Temple, although after 1961, many of these were demolished and reconstructed in the indigenous Indian style.

Welcome to Goa!!
We are two people on our adults from Denmark . We have rented this lovely apartment for a month. It was a lovely experience. Apartment / house was large and spacious with ac in the bedrooms. There were two large bathrooms with hot water . A good washing and good drying facilities . In preparation for our trip , we have mailed many times with Rio. We had many practical questions as he helped us to answer. Now then , he is still full of service and if we would like to travel to Goa again . This helpfulness has characterized the entire stay. Everything from the associated caretaker, gardener and porter . The apartment has a lovely large and bright living room . The kitchen has everything you might need for cooking. There is a lovely small floral garden attached to the kitchen. We have seen TV on the flat screen ... both English and Indian channels . The house is characterized by the owner to have a good and big family which together take good care of it all. The first day we had arrived at the house we were greeted by the owner's mother who just wanted to make sure that everything was as it should be. It was obvious that it was all of them anxious that we should feel comfortable during our stay. Doors and windows are secured with bars and padlocks so we never felt unsafe at night. There are a few minutes walk to restaurants and supermarket. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the magnificent beach . All in all, a lease that we can recommend and we would like to return there but unfortunately it is already rented out to other lucky people . :-)
