Extra spacious

Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
This 1930s vacation cottage sits atop a bank overlooking the Lake providing an extraordinary respite from the hustle and bustle of big-city life. Relax listening to the waves, watch lake freighters pass in the night, watch for eagles overhead. From a recent guest, "Spectacularly cozy & clean with amazing views!!"

The cottage: a porch with a spectacular view, clean, comfortable, vintage with modern amenities, great WiFi and a fully-equipped kitchen! Open all year; amazing off-season rates.

The space
For decades Canary Cottage was booked solid with regulars who had standing reservations. As guests and the owner aged, the property fell into disuse. Several years ago, my wife and I acquired the property. We're thrilled to begin sharing this special place again.

The electrical and plumbing have been modernized, the heating and cooling are new. By design, some original furnishings remain to maintain the original charm and character. In a few cases, there may be a bit too much character as we painstakingly work to restore some pieces to their former glory. The process will take time, but you'll find the space peaceful and comfortable with an unbeatable view.

For those who need modern amenities, we offer those too. We provide 100+ live TV channels or bring your own streaming device, e.g. Chromecast, Firestick or AppleTV to connect to an HDMI port A powerful router, discretely located in the living room, is connected to 300 Mbps internet service, making it perfect for those that have to catch up on work or just for uploading your photos of the lake!

There's plenty of parking space. We can accommodate trailers with watercraft and more.

Guest access
There are six rooms: a living room and kitchen space, three bedrooms, a bathroom and a lake-facing porch. The porch or backyard are the perfect place to watch the beautiful over-the-lake sunsets. The entire place is yours to enjoy.

“The cottage is vintage and charming. If you're looking for sleek sophistication, track lighting, granite counter-tops and stainless steel appliances...this may not be the place for you. "Beautiful sunsets and we had front-row seats for a lightening show before a storm one night!" – Margene

Neighborhood highlights

The area is decidedly small town, a place where most residents leave their doors unlocked. To the north of the cottage, there's 41 miles of open water. The cottage sits comfortably back from a lightly traveled road. You'll never notice the neighbors on either side, one is our co-host. There's a convenience store two tenths of a mile away, accessible by car or the sidewalk.

One mile from the cottage, there's a beautiful park. It features a huge beach with a view of the harbor and sandbar. There are playgrounds and a bluff-top overlook. Guest recommended!

Just beyond the park, you can visit Conneaut Harbor, drive out on the sandbar or visit one of several area restaurants. We'll help you pick the right one if you're new to the area. Downtown Conneaut is a traffic-free six minute drive where you'll find groceries, gas and quaint shops.

Ashtabula Harbor, an easy twelve mile drive from the cottage, offers a group of popular restaurants that include choices ranging from casual to upscale. Surrounding points of interest include a lift bridge and another popular park.

The surrounding county, Ashtabula County, is home to 19 covered bridges, including the longest and shortest covered bridges in America! The lake-moderated climate makes the area ideal for wineries, the county is home to more than two dozen.

I once held a top management position with a hotel chain. I loved the people and the industry, but left to pursue a career in IT (Information Technology) . Opening the cottage has been a long-awaited opportunity to connect with the amazing people my family and I meet as hosts. It's also been an opportunity for family to work together to create a wonderful experience for our guests.
