This pair of @ 100-year-old basic cabins are tucked into camp overlooking the lake and private beach. The white log cabin sleeps up to 2 in one full bed, the green cabin sleeps up to four (1 full bed, one bunkbed). The bunk beds are not really "adult-sized" and are best for youngsters. The Camp Latrine for these cabins is a short walk away, as are the communal showers. The green cabin has French doors that open up to a deck that leads right down to the private Camp Wandawega beach.
The space
HEADS UP! The Side by Side Cabins don’t have a bathroom or shower in them or attached - you have access to the Camp Latrine behind the Cedar Tavern. You have access to your own open air bare bones mini-kitchen attached to the Log Cabin. You’ll also have your own picnic table, grill, and campfire pit next to your cabins.
Like all of Camp, it’s a back-to-basics, no-frills, primitive experience. Simple rooms, vintage furnishings. For all intents and purposes, there’s no heat & only a simple AC: we still prefer open windows and a lake breeze.
Check the weather, bring an extra sleeping bag if it’s going to be chilly. You’re basically "camping indoors" so come prepared.
Be aware that the photos are not always matches to the pics, because we never stop moving stuff around.
We strongly suggest you come for a tour before booking so you know exactly what you're getting. If you’re looking for fine lodging, look elsewhere: this is old-school cabin-living.
WHAT YOU GOTTA KNOW: We still behave more like a private friends & family retreat than a “proper” destination. So bear with us as our innkeepers hats still don’t fit great. If you require an immediate response, and lots of hand-holding, Wandawega is not be the best fit for you.
OK, you've been warned : )
LETS GET REAL: Folks aren’t booking accommodations here as much as they’re accessing an old school summer camp experience, with the full gamut of self-guided activities: archery, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming, tennis, shuffleboard, volleyball, basketball, etc. Everything is included, and it’s all DIY. Watch the orientation film on our site to kick off your stay. By most standards, we have few modern conveniences (some find that charming, others call it hell). We’ve banned the word “glamping” here because there’s no glamour in a century old primitive lake resort. That said, there are electric outlets in each cabin.
THIS IS NOT THE FINE PRINT. (this is the LARGE gotta-read-it-to-the-end PRINT)
MANDATORY READING for all campers before we accept your booking: THE “M.O.L.E.” aka The Manifesto Of Low Expectations available on our home page.
SPECIAL HELP? The Airbnb calendar shows our most up-to-date avails. We’re totally DIY booking on a first come, first serve basis, so we don’t field emails, DMs, texts, calls or smoke signals outside of airbnb, unless you’re looking for a private all-camp rental.
MUST COMPLETE: All campers must sign the RELEASE & ACTIVITY WAIVER upon check in. A link will also be sent when you book, a mandatory read before showing up, so we can answer any questions in advance.
COMMUNAL SPACES: private lakefront, beach, piers, swim rafts, sports fields, treehouse, hiking trails, etc. (Be good scouts, & be considerate of your fellow camper’s peace and personal space).
FOOD. Check out “Food & Drink” under the VISIT tab on our website.
ASK FIRST. Friends, we don’t rent through Airbnb for commercial photo shoots or ticketed retreats (shoot us an email if that’s what you’re looking for).
If you are still reading, you made it the end, you’ve earned your first merit badge.
Guest access
Get "back to basics" at Camp Wandawega. Our guests aren’t renting a couple of random cabins as much as they’re immersing themselves, their friends and family into the whole old-school camp experience featuring a full agenda of recreational camp activities such as canoeing, boating, fishing, hiking, biking, horse shoes, tennis, shuffleboard, archery, campfires & s'mores. The fact that we have no modern conveniences is part of our charm.
Wandawega Lake Resort/Camp Wandawega is a private friends & family retreat, not a “proper” resort. We are carrying on the proud 90-plus year history of reconnecting people to the simple pleasures of simple times in a no-frills, historic lake resort/recreational camp setting. All of our guests are here as part of pre-planned recreational friends & family camp programs: sorry, but we do not accept random “walk-ins” or “transients.” But once the pandemic is truly behind us, all will once again be welcome to join us on Sunday mornings for Catholic "mass-in-the-grass" service, a 50+ year-old tradition; Sundays at 10am weather permitting. We don't want you to be surprised if you're there on a Sunday morn and awaken to find 100-plus worshipers gathered at the nearby outdoor chapel : )
