About this listing
You're away for work and tired of staying in 10x15 rooms with no personality. You want a place to call home that really is a home yet gives you the amenities of a hotel. Welcome to your refuge while on business travel; welcome to Northern Liberties.
This is a modern construction in the heart of NoLibs on a block renowned for its unique architecture (which features prominently on many Philadelphia walking tours). We are also just across the street from Liberty Lands park--one of a handful of sustainable parks in the city and lovingly cared for by residents. On a sunny afternoon, you'll see folks sunbathing, engaging in a game of bocce ball or frisbee, pic-nicking and reading poetry on the stage. Many of our neighbors have prominence in their field of work (photography, music, modeling, art) so stroll the neighborhood, strike up a conversation and realize you may have come face to face with intellectual and artistic greatness!
Feel supremely secure and comfortable in this alarm-protected home. You'll be given a key to come and go as you please in your private suite replete with Prana bed and spacious closets. Feel free to use the backyard/grill area and kitchen as well as the loft-style entertainment area with indoor fireplace. Please note, check in time is after 3pm. Those requesting earlier access may receive a key but the room won't be ready until after 3pm. Check out time is noon.
Interaction with Guests
Depending upon our schedules and the guests desires, we may take guests on a guided tour around the city. And, if cheesesteaks are at all involved and Chris is home, he will demand to take guests to Joes or Jims--never Pats or Genos--for a cheesesteak that is consumed by locals. As he says, "it's all in the bread". We will be happy to provide suggestions for sightseeing: Elfreth's Alley, Liberty Bell, Christ Church, Washington Square, Independence Hall, Betsy Ross House, Ben Franklin Grave, Chinatown, Italian Market, Art Museum/Rocky steps, Reading Terminal Market and more--many of which are within a 15 minute walking distance from the house.
Our neighborhood is very eclectic and one of the most exciting with many events like concerts, open markets, food trucks, and other festivals occurring at the Piazza on the weekends. Artists, DJs, photographers, visual artists and other professionals live in our area and the nearby Liberties Walk offers a cornucopia of dining options from Greek (Dmitris) and Thai (Circles/Baan Thai) to Mexican (Las Cazuelas, El Camino Real, Dos Segundos), Spanish Tapas (Bar Ferdinand), and good ole American eateries (PYT, Darling's Diner, Standard Tap, Suppa, Kings Oak). While we will offer coffee in the morning, those with a more sumptuous appetite must head to Honey's Sit n Eat or Green Eggs Cafe--both only 3 blocks away and boasting lines out the door for their famous brunches. Within a 6 block walk you'll find great nightlife at Frankford Hall, Fette Sau, Johnny Brenda's, Ortleib's, the Barbary, Barcade or Jerry's Bar. Everything you need for entertainment, food, and culture is in NoLibs with all that Philly has to offer only a few footsteps beyond.
SEPTA (subway) is a 6 block walk to either the Spring Garden or Girard stations. Trolleys serve Girard Avenue and public buses routinely run up 3rd street and down 2nd. There is ample and free street parking which is something lacking in center city.
Other Things to Note
We've moved 6 times in our 12 years of marriage and have traveled to every continent and over 70 countries. We'd love to swap travel stories with you and learn of your favorite sites and settings. Let's trade travel secrets--we'll certainly share what we know about Philly!
We want folks to feel comfortable, cared for, and cozy in our home. We have a stainless steel grill in our modest backyard for those of the grilling variety and our kitchen can be used for those preferring to dine in. If you are more introverted and prefer solace, no worries. "As you wish" is not just a line from the Princess Bride, it's a motto we live by. But, please, no smoking. Finally, lost keys will be charged a $125 replacement fee.
Staying with Suz and Chris was a great experience, especially considering it was the first time I used Airbnb and it was a last minute request. Suz drove my fiance and I around for a quick tour of Philly, and she and Chris provided great suggestions on where to eat and go sightseeing. Their house is so nice, the bedroom a great space and the bed comfortable. Highly recommended!
Suz and Chris are the best hosts. Amazing home in the center of Northern Liberties with tons of bars and restaurants within walking distance. Room is very comfortable, private, and spacious. Would definitely stay here again. The best part of my stay was chatting with Suz and Chris - they are so friendly and interesting!
Luz and Chris were incredible hosts. The location is close enough to the convention center and great bars/restaurants. The room was very comfortable and clean. Would stay here again if I'm ever visiting Philly.
Suz is a wonderful and interesting host. First day we met, we had a great conversation about ourselves, travel, and all the great food Philly has to offer; making me feel safe and comfortable. I would definitely stay with Suz again if I needed a place to stay in Philly.
The room is really comfortable (amazing pillows!), very private, the area is packed with good restaurants, and ~five minute walk to the subway station.
If you're looking to stay in one of the hottest neighborhoods in Philly (foodie's delight) in one of the nicest houses (completely private room), you must book here. Suz & Chris couldn't be better hosts (E.g. After a day of house hunting in muggy 90 degree temps, Suz prepared refreshments seemingly knowing we'd be dehydrated). We will/would absolutely stay here again!
Suz was welcoming and easy to communicate with before and during our stay!
The space itself is impeccable and the location is awesome! Easy access to old city and extremely close proximity to tons of fun, hip bars and restaurants!
I would definitely recommend staying here and wouldn't hesitate to go back int he future.
Suz and Chris were awesome. From the moment we pulled up to their home to the note we woke up to before leaving Philadelphia, we felt right at home. Can't say enough about them or the beautiful city. Thanks again for the pizza recommendation, Suz!!!
About the Host, Suz
We are global adventurers who have been to every continent and over 50 countries. Chris is a martial arts expert who trains the military in hand to hand combat and Suz is an international healthcare and travel professional. We have a very arrogant dog named Frank Sinatra who is well behaved aside from his crying for more food. We willingly open up our home to those who respect our values and quiet lifestyle. It's a fantastic location in a clean and modern setting.
