Hermann's place was a very private and safe house. Two of our bedrooms were on a completely different floor, which you had to go outside to access. We weren't able to check in on time, due to previous guests staying longer, which was inconvenient. No drinking water and very little toilet paper, so we had to go shopping. We had no heat, and we're charged 5 Sol's for firewood, which I think should have been free due to the late check in. The upstairs floors are very noisy, so you can hear anyone walking upstairs, just the way the house was built I guess. The neighborhood itself was very nice and local, not touristy at all, which we loved! Everything closes very early though, around 6pm, but we still loved the environment. Hermann was responsive and helped as much as he could (was out of town during stay). Overall we had a great stay, but I'm not sure I would stay here again.

It's a nice house, very clean and the town of Calca is quaint and immaculate. It's a good place to get acclimated if you're going to trek up at the higher altitudes. Cusco is not the best place to get acclimated...Calca and the Sacred Valley is a better choice. There is a bus station located at the end of the long street from Hermann's house. It was convenient. I would recommend this house to other travelers.

This is a beautiful home in Calca, on the edge of town at the base of a mountain. The home is comfortable and the views of the Sacred Valley are incredible. Minor issues with hot water, etc were fixed in a timely manner. We enjoyed our stay!

I arrived with my brothers and the house was as nice as in the picture. Very comfortable bedrooms. The house was clean and in great area so we can visit the sacred valley and also only an hour away from Ollantaytambo train station so we can go to Machu Picchu. We loved our stay and would love to go back in the future.

I was travelling with my 26 year old daughter. We travel with small backpacks, do a lot of hiking and stay in hostels as well as nice resorts. We decided on Hermanns to spread out, regroup and get some laundry done. We did not have a great experience. Nothing horrible but at-least expect made beds, towels, soap and hot water. We let Hermann know days in advance that we would be arriving at 10PM coming from Macchu Picchu. We arrived pretty much on time considering the house location in Calca, making at 10:10. When we arrived there was only one bed made up. We had to disturb the woman who lives on the property and ask her to make up the second bed. Once she left we discovered there was only one towel. Then we found there was no soap / no shampoo. We did get a second towel later, which was good. When using the shower we ran out of hot water. We communicated a number of issues to Hermann and late afternoon received a response which basically took no responsibility but offered us free laundry and free wood for the stove. The funny part was that the wood was no where to be found and we still have no idea where the laundry machines were. Its possible these things are in the care keepers home, but we were out exploring all day so unable to communicate with the care keeper, who lives on the property but speaks no english. The house is fine with the exception of running out of hot water. The beds are good and there is plenty of room to spread out. The property is shared and there is an annoying small dog that keeps yapping so its not inviting to sit out side. The only information provided at the house is a menu that outlines all the extra costs for things like heat, use of wood stove, laundry machines, etc. It would have been nice if there was equal effort put into listing simple clews like internet password, that you need to pull out and plug in the refrigerator to turn it on, that hot water is in short supply, and where the laundry machines are located.

Our experience at Hermann's place was great! The town of Calca is not a tourist hub, but very central to all of the Sacred Valley sights which was perfect for us. It's very safe there and my family felt very at home in the town, even making friends in town. We were sad to leave. The house was very comfortable, with good beds and warm blankets. The place is in a very quiet location right on the edge of town and has a well- equipped kitchen, TV with tons of channels in English or Spanish, a great fenced yard, and the whole town is in walking distance. Be aware that this is rural Peru and the Internet is sometimes slow and the hot water goes off at about 10pm. Hermann lives nearby and was pretty responsive as a host, even though his wife had just had a baby a few days before our arrival. He went out of his way to assist us in getting bus tickets to Puno at the last minute. I will note that the details on AirBnB list a number of amenities that are not actually meant to be included in the price (heating, use of washer, breakfast, gas for cooking, etc...). We found a price list for these things in the house when we arrived and were surprised. Due to our renting for a month, Hermann agreed to include the gas, heating, and washer so everything worked out well, just be aware of what 'amenities' mean. Overall a great experience in an off-the-tourist-radar quaint town. Nice house and a good host. We already miss it.

Hermann was very nice and responsive to any questions I had. The house was absolutely beautiful and the gardens outside were breathtaking. I really enjoyed staying there and it was close to the main town square, therefore easy to find transportation, food and markets to shop.
