About this listing
The sofa-bed is ideal for one person, but can fit two. We make this bed with a thick IKEA mattress pad so it's more comfortable.
We're located in the Dwight neighbourhood which is under a 10 minute walk to the main Yale campus and about the same to the med school area. Dwight is an urban area and we're on the ambulance route so if you're looking for something super quiet, you're better off checking out a place in East Rock. However, if you're used to big cities, you'll find Dwight comparatively tranquil. There are a few bars and restaurants down the street, though our particular block is mainly residential.
Our place is on the first floor of the building, and is a two-bedroom apartment. The room we're renting out doubles as guestroom and office, and the bed is a pull-out sofa-bed which is ideal for one person but can fit two (the bed measures 46 x 80 inches). The guestroom contains a number of bookshelves, a desk and chair, as well as a small built-in closet which guests are free to use. It's a bright room and super sunny in the mornings though we have dark curtains for those who prefer to sleep in.
The apartment has a central heating system and we have smaller electric heaters as well. There is only one bathroom in the apartment, so we'll have to share. You're also welcome to use the kitchen and our washing machine if you need to do laundry. We *do not* provide breakfast.
On-street parking is usually plentiful, though there are also paid parking lots close by. We're three blocks away from the Yale shuttle stop on York/Chapel, and the bus-stop for CTTransit route F is just outside our door. There's a large Stop & Shop about a 5-10 mins' walk from our place, as well as a number of smaller grocery stores, a liquor store, a Dunkin Donuts, our very own neighbourhood comic book store (!), and a 24-hour Walgreens all within a block or two.
Most of these aren't exactly house rules, but we do ask that you note the following BEFORE requesting a booking:
- Please send us a message telling us a little bit about yourself and why you're in town.
- We *do not* provide breakfast. You are welcome to use the kitchen and have things in the fridge, but please keep everything clean and tidy.
- We have a hamster. His name is Seamus. He's very cute, but if you're allergic you may not agree.
- Linens and towels are provided, but please bring your own shampoo/bathwash/etc.
- No smoking, no pets.
- This is a shoes-off household.
Large desk and comfortable computer chair. The desk has since moved and is now facing the large window on the right - it just made more sense space-wise.
I had a great time staying with Rosa! She was very accommodating of my crazy schedule and I felt very welcome in her apartment. The apartment was also in a convenient location in New Haven and Rosa was very helpful with advice!
truly exceptional! Rosa is an amazing host, 100% responsive, caring and friendly - I wish I could have stayed longer. the apartment is very comfortable and well located, you will feel at home!
The room corresponded to my expectations. The apartment is very well situated (10 min. walk to Yale University, its fabulous Art Gallery and the theatre).
Rosa waited for me so that could directly go to the apartment after my arrival in New Haven.
I could use the kitchen to my convenience.
I had a lovely stay in Rosa's apartment in New Haven! The room is cute and cozy and I really enjoyed the big windows (lots of light) and the fascinating collection of books. While I didn't make much use of the common areas, everything in the apartment is well-decorated and pleasant. The bed is very comfortable! Rosa was a wonderful host who gave me great recommendations for places to visit, and just generally seems like a really awesome human being.
Rosa was very timely, available and pleasant! She was flexible on check in and check out times and gave us good directions for walking around New Haven. The room itself is exactly as she described it on the post. The sofa bed was comfortable, the room was sunny :) and there was a fan just in case you get hot! Would definitely stay here again.
I found out the day I arrived that Rosa was out of town, but Erik did make me feel welcome. The place was exactly as described, was clean, and was in a great location for someone wanting to be close to Yale. I was attending a conference, and it was great to be within walking distance from everywhere I needed to go. There are a lot of cute restaurants, bookstores, coffee shops, etc. within a 5 minute walk.
About the Host, Rosa
I'm a PhD student in Chinese Literature at Yale. Most of my Airbnbing is done through another account, as part of the two-person mini-machine that is CasaTrigoso, located in southern Portugal. We have a website, though it's not legit to link that here, so if you're curious, check out our Airbnb listings:
