The sofa-bed is ideal for one person, but can fit two. We make this bed with a thick IKEA mattress pad so it's more comfortable.
We're located in the Dwight neighbourhood which is under a 10 minute walk to the main Yale campus and about the same to the med school area. Dwight is an urban area and we're on the ambulance route so if you're looking for something super quiet, you're better off checking out a place in East Rock. However, if you're used to big cities, you'll find Dwight comparatively tranquil. There are a few bars and restaurants down the street, though our particular block is mainly residential.
Our place is on the first floor of the building, and is a two-bedroom apartment. The room we're renting out doubles as guestroom and office, and the bed is a pull-out sofa-bed which is ideal for one person but can fit two (the bed measures 46 x 80 inches). The guestroom contains a number of bookshelves, a desk and chair, as well as a small built-in closet which guests are free to use. It's a bright room and super sunny in the mornings though we have dark curtains for those who prefer to sleep in.
The apartment has a central heating system and we have smaller electric heaters as well. There is only one bathroom in the apartment, so we'll have to share. You're also welcome to use the kitchen and our washing machine if you need to do laundry. We *do not* provide breakfast.
On-street parking is usually plentiful, though there are also paid parking lots close by. We're three blocks away from the Yale shuttle stop on York/Chapel, and the bus-stop for CTTransit route F is just outside our door. There's a large Stop & Shop about a 5-10 mins' walk from our place, as well as a number of smaller grocery stores, a liquor store, a Dunkin Donuts, our very own neighbourhood comic book store (!), and a 24-hour Walgreens all within a block or two.
Most of these aren't exactly house rules, but we do ask that you note the following BEFORE requesting a booking:
- Please send us a message telling us a little bit about yourself and why you're in town.
- We *do not* provide breakfast. You are welcome to use the kitchen and have things in the fridge, but please keep everything clean and tidy.
- We have a hamster. His name is Seamus. He's very cute, but if you're allergic you may not agree.
- Linens and towels are provided, but please bring your own shampoo/bathwash/etc.
- No smoking, no pets.
- This is a shoes-off household.
I found out the day I arrived that Rosa was out of town, but Erik did make me feel welcome. The place was exactly as described, was clean, and was in a great location for someone wanting to be close to Yale. I was attending a conference, and it was great to be within walking distance from everywhere I needed to go. There are a lot of cute restaurants, bookstores, coffee shops, etc. within a 5 minute walk.
A lovely, sunny corner room right on the edge of campus. Clean, comfy, and extremely convenient! Erik was a perfect host. He was helpful and informative, but also very respectful of my space. I was in town for an interview, and he was very kind in wishing me luck and following up with me after. Just an all around good guy and nice to chat with.
Rosa and Erik are such an adorable couple, they are both so friendly and kind! Erik fetched me at the train station on my arrival day and they sent me to the station again when I left. They speak perfect Mandarin and Rosa also speak Cantonese! We mostly chatted in English but sometimes in Mandarin, it was so much fun!
Erik is very into music and music technology, it was really interesting listening to his experimental music.
The room is great with a table that is perfect for work. The apartment is near to grocery stores, a few restaurants, Yale university, Art galary and more. All are within walking distance. I highly recommend this wonderful apartment with its wonderful hosts if you are looking for a place to stay in New Haven!
The room was, as promised, very sunny. Everything was clean and in good condition, and the university was within walking distance. Erik is a nice chap and we even ended up visiting a museum together. Recommended!
I spent 13 days at Rosa and Erik's place. Rosa was away during that time, but Erik was very welcoming. He was very helpful, ready to offer advice and have a chat, without encroaching on my independence.
The room is exactly as described, very bright and sunny, the bed comfortable. The apartment is quiet, and close from downtown New Haven and Yale University, with a large supermarket 10 min by foot.
I would definitively recommend Rosa and Erik as hosts, and will look again for their place if I am to stay again at New Haven in the future
Erik is a wonderful host. He came to pick me up at the bus station. When I arrived, he suggested me a few places in the neighborhood where I could get dinner. The area around their house is extremely safe. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. There is no air conditioner in the room but fan worked pretty well. The bathroom was also clean. I was allowed to use the kitchen area as well.
Rosa is currently a sixth year PhD student in Chinese Literature at Yale, and Erik works for the state university system of Connecticut. We live in New Haven.
Rosa actually does most of her Airbnbing through another account, as part of the two-person mini-machine that is CasaTrigoso, located in southern Portugal. We have a website, though it's not legit to link that here, so if you're curious, check out our Airbnb listings:
