I stayed at Amber's house with 3 friends, and we absolutely loved it. The house felt like it was our own private retreat center, complete with a spacious, elegant interior and a gorgeous, expansive garden area in the back. We loved the luxe feel of the house, and we will definitely return the next time we're in Ojai. Thanks Amber!
The entire experience was exceptional. We spent a weekend in Ojai for a wedding and needed some extra space for our 2yr old to run around. The house was immaculate and very tastefully designed, and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. The kitchen in particular was special and allowed us to cook in comfort. Amber was very helpful and answered all our questions. By the end of the trip, we didn't want to leave!
Everything over exceeded any expectation I had and Amber's communication and introduction was much appreciated.
Amber's Ojai vacation home is one of the best rental homes we've stayed in. It's almost like walking into a Restoration Hardware show home. Much better than staying at a hotel.
My mom, my two sisters, and I took a girl's roadtrip up the California coast and this was our first stop after L.A. With two very spacious bedrooms, it was perfect for our 3-day stay in Ojai. The soaring ceilings give the feeling you are somewhere quite grand. We were provided with white spa bathrobes, fluffy houseslippers, pristine white towels, boutique organic soaps, shampoos, and conditioners. The beds were new & comfortable, with high-quality natural fabrics. There are gorgeous rugs throughout that give it a warm, modern feeling. The wide white furniture with throw blankets and pillows were nice to relax on. The huge TV is on an artist's easel.
The kitchen is a gourmand's dream, with lots of teas, coffee, and steel cut oats for a nice morning meal. We appreciated the extras like the wine fridge and amazing microplane graters. The dining room has a great long table and walls of windows on three sides, and skylights. We loved eating in this indoor/outdoor space, as well as on the backyard patio that flows from the kitchen area--another great indoor/outdoor space.
The internet wifi was unusable until we took the router out of the office room closet and set it on a nearby chair, then it worked great. We walked to the farmer's market on Sunday to stock up on delicious organic fruits and vegetables. We hired a private yoga instructor (Ashley) for a one hour morning session in the backyard, which was one of the highlights of our stay in Ojai. The morning air was crisp & fresh, the lush backyard landscaping soothed our soul as hummingbirds flew around us and birds chirped. The backyard feels very private even though there are neighbors on the other side of the fence.
The road behind the house leads to Pratt Trail, but we opted for Shelf Road Hike instead for its sweeping views of the valley. We indulged in the areas great organic/vegan dining--our favorites were Farm and the Cook and Hip Vegan (Ray's Reuben Sandwich and the Italian Vegetable Soup was to die for). Daytrips to Santa Barbara/Montecito and Malibu were an easy 30-40 mins away.
There was an incident with being locked out for half the day. The front door knob wouldn't turn and the property manager (Amanda) was out of town (!) and didn't get back for four hours, which caused great frustration. It didn't seem like she had back-up or an assistant covering for her. We were compensated for the inconvenience later by Amber, the home owner, and were reassured that future guests would have access to other doors if it ever happened again. They later realized they should have called a locksmith immediately when we were locked out. I think they plan on replacing the knob as well.
Overall we loved our stay!
Amber’s home is wonderful. First off, the location is ideal, the house in a very quiet cul-de-sac, right at the base of the mountain where apparently there is a hiking trail. But it’s close to downtown (we walked to dinner). Also, Amber provides a binder that lists stuff to do, see and eat in Ojai, which was helpful.
The house itself is gorgeous—better than the photos! It feels very high end and the pride of ownership is apparent. There is amazing tile work throughout the house, the bedrooms are large, have blackout shades, and our bed was super comfortable. The living room couch is also very comfortable (sometimes the couches aren’t in rental places) and it was a treat to sit in front of the fire in the evening.
The absolute highlight of the home has to be the kitchen. Talk about high-end appliances! I wish we had stayed longer so I could have used it more, I love to cook.
Oh, and the backyard is an oasis. We enjoyed breakfast there in the morning - there were so many birds chirping – hummingbirds and many others, plus we saw bunnies on the lawn when we woke up!
We had a great time and I hope to go back for a longer stay soon! Thanks Amber!
Originally from New York, my husband and I now split our time between British Columbia and California. We love the "super-natural" beauty of Ojai—from the oak-shaded paths and orange groves to the breathtaking hikes in the Los Padres National Forest to the stunning pink sunsets. This magical town draws artists, musicians and natural healers. It hosts some of the world's best art galleries, golf courses, and spas. Our modern Spanish Colonial home is a sanctuary within this real-world Shangri-La. We look forward to sharing all that Ojai has to offer with you.
