Stay in this lovely blue bedroom upstairs in my 1898 farm house. Queen sized bed. My home is near Humboldt State University, grocery, coffee shop, and bus stops.

The space
Please confirm that you have read this description in its entirety when you request to book the room. If you don’t find the answer to your question here, please ask.

This is an awesome upstairs room. There are 3 windows, which open for ventilation. This is our bedroom, which we use as a guest room mostly when we are out of town. This room has my clothes and personal items This room has a queen size bed. It can accommodate 1- 2 people. A couple could ok, but if you need a lot of space or plan to spend a lot of time in the room, 2 people could feel that it’s not enough space. The room is large, but it doesn’t have an accessible table or desk. The bed, a chair and a stool are what you’ll have access to. When booking for 2 people, please add the second person when you book.

We prefer that guests staying in this room eat and store food in the kitchen. You may have a shelf in the fridge if you inform us in advance and some access to the kitchen to prepare food. Please inform us of your kitchen needs to be sure that we can accommodate you during your stay. We some times have a lot going on in the kitchen. All kitchen items such as pans and dishes that are available for guests are in the cabinets and drawers that are labeled by their contents. Please respect our person areas by only using items from the labeled drawers and cabinets. Please clean up after yourself.

We take off shoes in the house.

There is a half bath upstairs next to the room that is shared by all 3 upstairs bedrooms. Depending on the season, there may or may not be people in the other rooms upstairs. There is also a full bathroom with a shower downstairs to the right of the fridge that is used by all guests. My husband and I use a different bathroom. We will leave you a towel and toilet paper in the room for your use during your stay. Bathrooms are shared. This means that while we do our best to clean and stock them, we can’t always be sure that they are spotless when we are absent. If you are not ok with sharing a bathroom, please don’t request to stay. Although guests should provide their own personal toiletries, if you have any special needs please communicate them prior to booking.

If we happened to be home when you here, we will be sleeping in the downstairs room with our babies. There are 5 rooms in the house, including this listing. Depending on if the university is in session there may be students in the other three rooms or other airbnb guests.

Due to our hectic schedule we currently don't offer any sort of food service or coffee, but will show you where the pans and dishes are and leave you a space in the fridge.

We like to greet our guests personally when they arrive as much as possible.
Unless we are traveling, we can be available to check you in on most days between 4-6pm and check out by 10am unless other arrangements are made. Please communicate your arrival time when you request the room. When we are out of town, we can send you directions and the door code if you are comfortable letting yourself in and following instructions. Please confirm that with us when you make your reservation.

Near Humboldt State University and on a bus line (the stop is right outside).

Parking on the street is free! Please do not block our driveway or garage.

Guest access
You will have a shelf in the fridge and some access to the kitchen to prepare food. All kitchen items such as pans and dishes that are available for guests are in the cabinets and drawers that are labeled by their contents. Please clean up after yourself.

This room houses a lot of my clothes and personal items, therefore there is no closet access for guests. We hope you understand.

Other things to note
Parking on the street is free! Please park on the street by the house next door or along the adjacent street. Please do not block our driveway or garage.

Give yourself extra time to get here. Humboldt is very remote and there isn't good data/cell service when you're driving through the Redwoods. This is a smoke-free, drug-free home. No smoking or burning of anything on our property, including e-cigarettes and medicinal/ recreational marijuana.

Please do not bring visitors or pets.

Location

Arcata, California, United States

Humboldt County has a host of interesting things to see and do. We are happy to recommend some places we like. We enjoy sharing info on what events are happening around town and giving recommendations for local events and businesses.

My home is located in a residential area that is within a 15-20 minute walk from Humboldt State University campus, a about a 30-40 minute walk to downtown and about a 10-15 minute walk to a grocery store, coffee shop, laundromat and thrift shop. In the other direction it is quite rural populated by cows that graze in the field next door. There is a trail nearby that connects with the trails in the Arcata Community Forest.
There is a bus stop outside the house and there is a park across the way. Mad River Beach is a short drive away (or bike ride), as well as a great river spot along the Mad River.
There are many things to do and see in Arcata, such as the farmer's market year round on the plaza Saturday mornings, and many local restaurants. The Arcata Scoop is a favorite for local organic ice cream. There are also local products, breweries and factories to visit. Holly Yashi, Cypress Grove Chevre, and Mad River Brewing Company are among my favorites.

I grew up in Humboldt County, but have spent some time living in Spain, Mexico, and France. My partner, Yani is from Montreal. Having traveled a lot, we recognize and value safe, hospitable lodging. I have hosted many wonderful travelers, each a pilgrim in their own way. By hosting, engaging in conversations and some times showing my guests around the area, we all stand to gain through these experiences. I am grateful for the opportunity to look upon my home town through new eyes. We enjoy living in this area, and sharing our home with guests. We have such an abundance of local businesses, artists, and restaurants that use local ingredients. We never tire of the natural beauty of this landscape. Hosting on AirBnb has quickly become a passion. My other loves are art, music, languages, and dance. We enjoy being active and love to dance many styles of dance. Most evenings we attend some sort of dance or dance class. We enjoy fresh food, especially from our garden. Yani loves to cook. He works from home on the computer, so there is a good chance that at least one of us will be home (unless we are traveling). I spent many years teaching English and Spanish at high schools in the area. I am now a flight attendant, and I have returned to education part-time. Yani is a native French speaker. I speak Spanish, French, some Italian, some German, and have studied a little Japanese. A goal that I have is to learn Portuguese so that I can speak and understand well enough to engage in conversation with locals when I visit Brazil some day and so that I can read my favorite author, Paulo Coelho in it's original language. We have two babies, no pets, but plenty of quiet rooms for our guests. Depending on the time of year, we also host long term students, interns or traveling professionals.

During your stay
Depending on if the university is in session there may be students renting the other rooms or other Airbnb guests.
We like to welcome our guests personally when they arrive as often as possible.
We don't mind if guests then go straight to the room or spend all their time out of the house. Some times we are busy or out of town at the time, but what we find most rewarding about Airbnb is the human connection and interaction. We enjoy giving recommendations about what to do around this area. It only takes a few minutes to connect with someone and it makes all the difference.
