Residential neighborhood in Cerro Placeres. Our building has a doorman/woman and is filled with students and families. We live next to Placeres Square, where you can find the local bread shop and meat shop, and also farmers market on Thursdays and Sundays (large supermarket 10 minutes away by bus). Less touristic location for more of a local experience, but with quick public transit access to all the main sites. 15 minute walk to the beach & boardwalk.
2 blocks away from bus routes to downtown Valparaiso and Viña del Mar. The trip is about 15-20 minutes to either. Very important to be comfortable with public transit as taxi service is limited in Valparaiso. Short bus trip to the main Valparaiso bus terminal, with connections to the airport, Santiago, etc. About a 15 minute walk to metro station (Portales), for access to Viña and outer cities. We can provide maps and detailed public transit information.

A wonderful place to stay and base ourselves in Valparaiso. The space was bright, airy and clean and we loved that we had such a great place to retreat to at the end of the day. The kitchen is a real treat, really well set up and modern. While we were there Valparaiso was cool but we were always cosy inside.
Getting to town was really easy especially with the information provided by Jessica.
Jessica was a real pleasure to deal with. Super fast and clear communication and really helpful with all the queries we had too. Thank you so much for such a wonderful first experience on AirB&B.
Jessica arranged for her mother in law to let me into the apartment-- she was very helpful, explained where everything was, provided maps and restaurant/tour ideas, and offered her's and Jessica's phone numbers in case anything happened. Jessica emailed during my stay, just to be sure all was well-- very attentive! The apartment was FANTASTIC! Beautiful views of the city and the ocean from 19 floors up. Quiet/ safe area but with easy access to buses into the downtown/ center area. The kitchen was great too (and Jessica sweetly left me a bottle of wine to enjoy on the balcony!). Overall such a wonderful four days! Jessica is a great host! :)
A lovely apartment with great views of the bay and the Valpo hills. Everything is just as mentioned in the text and pictures. Location is a bit out of the way but easy to get around with the bus. The apartment is a bit bright during the day.
The apartment was nicely furnished and had a spectacular panoramic view. Jessica left us various useful maps and bus instructions which we used. Several taxi drivers couldn't find Carmen Street. We needed the name of the neighborhood. Was it Alto Placeres, or is that the name of the building? Corner grocery store had all we needed to buy.
This is a terrific, well thought out apartment with a beautiful view of the port. My girlfriend described it as being like staying at a friend's place because the things in the apartment were purchased with real useful intent. Most furnished short-term rentals are clearly not lived in by the people that furnished them. Jessica and Eduardo had soap, toilet paper, coffee, tea, olive oil, some spices and even hot sauce in the kitchen. It was nice to not have to buy that stuff in order to cook three or four meals over the course of a week long stay. They even have sharp kitchen knives!
I would say the main downside to the apartment is that it is difficult to walk to either downtown Valparaiso or Viña del Mar. You are going to need to get comfortable with the transit system. Fortunately, you have a lot of options from this apartment. There is a bus stop right across the street, as well as a shared taxi route that is surprisingly easy and inexpensive. The passenger train is about a 15 minute walk down the hill. Jessica and Eduardo leave you a booklet with all the info you need, along with a couple of rechargeable cards for the train. If you need some quick food, there are also some decent little eateries a few blocks down the hill by the University.
I work over the internet while traveling, so here is the rundown on the connection. 3 mbit down, 500 kbps up, ping time of 38 ms. I do a lot of internet voice calls with screen sharing, and I had no trouble during my stay. The connection was reliable and fast enough for video streaming and that kind of stuff. No issues whatsoever.
My girlfriend and I stayed in Jessica's apartment for 5 nights whilst taking a Spanish course in Valparaiso, and it was a great oasis to come back to each evening with a fantastic view over the city. Jessica kindly gave us a bottle of red wine as a gift which we enjoyed on the roof of the apartment one night watching the sun set.
The apartment itself is a great space and well laid out. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed.
Jessica was a great host, easily contactable and responsive before and during our stay.
I couldn't recommend this apartment enough, it was a great choice and if we would definitely stay here again.
About the Host, Jessica
My husband and I just recently moved to Valparaiso and are excited to call this city our new home. We had been living in Punta Arenas in Chilean Patagonia so if anyone needs advice on their trips down south we'd be happy to help. We are a young, active couple and love to run, hike, bike and explore.
Between the two of us we have travelled throughout South America, North America, Europe, Asia and Africa so we love sharing with fellow travellers and daydreaming about our next trip.
