Interaction with Guests
I really enjoy interacting with guests and let the interaction flow naturally. So if a guest is traveling alone and want company on an outing or two, I usually join. When there's a couple that prefers privacy, that's what I give them. So the interaction usually depends on the guests' preferences.
The apartment is located in Central Harlem, where a lot of African American history has happened. This place is full of charm and characters. I would recommend Central Harlem to anyone that is open to other cultures, well traveled or interested in African American culture. The reason I specify this is because I have had a handful of guests (usually young, sheltered, college students) that have been intimidated by the area because they weren't aware and thought the neighborhood is like any other African American or American neighborhood. Harlem is one of the largest, urban, working class neighborhoods in the US.
5 minutes to the APOLLO THEATER, COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY, JAZZ MUSEUM, OFFICIAL NYC INFORMATION CENTER, RESTAURANT ROW, STUDIO MUSEUM OF HARLEM
10 minutes to CENTRAL PARK
15 minutes to TIMES SQUARE, BROADWAY THEATERS, ROCKEFELLER CENTER, YANKEE STADIUM, MUSEUM MILE, BRYANT PARK, MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY, CITY COLLEGE OF NEW YORK by subway or bus
There's a bus stop right across the street from the apartment and the closest subway is a 5-minute walk from the building. There are 3 other subway lines and more than 15 additional bus lines a 10-15 minute walk away.
Here's the travel time between the apartment and airport, type of transportation and cost of getting back and forth between to the major airports in the area
LaGuardia Airport (LGA)
Taxi -- 20 min - $20
Bus -- 40 min - $3
John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
Taxi -- 30-90 min - $45
Subway -- 90 min - $5
Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
Taxi -- 30-60 min - $70
Subway/Rail/Bus -- 60-90 min - $5 to $15
Stewart International Airport (SWF)
Taxi -- 90 min - $80
Subway/Rail/Bus -- 140 min - $25
In addition, the Super Shuttle or Go Airlink Shuttle are available from each of these airports for $15-$30 depending on which airport and shuttle is chosen and if a web discount is used. This is the rate for the first passenger. Additional passengers in the group are usually half the rate. There's cars, SUVs or vans also available for larger groups/families with a cost of $99 - $175 for the entire group.
For drivers, there's a parking garage across the street -- cars ($28), SUVs ($33). There are lower rate garages further north. Alternatively, there's free street parking that can be found easily. However, NYC's alternate street parking rules apply, excluding Sundays, major US and religious holidays, requiring the vehicle to be moved every other day for street cleaning.
Grand Central commuter railroad terminal (NY/CT towns), Penn Station intercity railroad hub (major East Coast cities), Path trans-hudson rail system (NJ neighborhoods), Port Authority bus terminal, George Washington Bridge bus station and Journal Square bus center are 20-30 min taxi ride or 20-40 min subway/bus ride away. Metro North 125th St station is a 5 min taxi ride or 10 bus ride away.
Other Things to Note
For short 3-day stays or less, there's an extra fee of $50.
Check-in can be done anytime after 12pm and 7pm. For those that need to drop their luggage before noon or check in after 7pm, there's a $50 fee.

Latacha é uma gantastica anfitriã. Sempre aberta a te ajudar.
We had a great time at Latasha's !
The area is really nice and very close to the tube and central park is only a few minutes walk away. It's very close to the famous Apollo theatre and nice restaurants and shops etc...
To stay in such a mythic area as Harlem was really nice and meeting Latasha made it even nicer ! She is sweet and funny and makes you feel at home !
Thank you Latasha for the tips you gave us for a typical Sunday in Harlem, it really made our day !!
Definitely a place to crush !!

Really great restaurant. Even Obama has eaten here. Need a reservation, though; otherwise, there could be an hour wait for a table.
