The space
The Big Round Cabin sits on the same rock ridge as “The Blowing Rock”. With its drop away views you can see 40 miles on clear days out to Linville Gorge Wilderness with the Hawksbill and TableRock mountains, to the actual Rocky Knob on the left side of the deck (which used to have a fire tower up top on the 50’s), to of course Grandfather Mountain across the John’s river gorge which drops out 15 miles in front of you from the cabin deck. This is a special place ...
The Big Round Cabin is 400 secluded feet away from our other AirBnB property, The Secret Shack, which is 2 bedrooms / 1 bath, with its own private HotTub, amazing deck views and its own special memories. If you’d like to have both we provide a discount for guests with a larger gathering to use both cabins at the same time.
We are not a hotel but true to the airbnb experience, which is we want to share our location with you. We strive to keep our cleaning fees low, and we are generally 1/2 our competition on cleaning fees, but we expect you'll help us keep up with everything as you go as well. Some folks are looking for hotel standard everything or an airbnb just like they stayed at in some big city. Thats not us ... we are catering to those of you who want seclusion, your own piece of heaven and of course the BEST views in Blowing Rock. We are 16 secluded acres in the woods ... our reviews feature guests who enjoy that experience and the occasional guest who doesn't get it and worries they may run into bugs & spiders outside, gets worried about a drive on a gravel mountain road, or didn't get it when we said we are "off the beat path". We are off the beaten path, come in enjoy the experience, know what we are about on the way in .... and thats why you booked us. We also do allow some pets under 50 pounds that you discuss with us prior to booking.
Guest access
You have the entire cabin to yourself, the garage is owners space and not available. This includes your own parking, house and private hot tub.
We do practice scaleable pricing in this cabin. Your cleaning fee is the lowest around for the first 4 guests, after that pricing does increase $35/night/person until the cabin reaches its capacity. We think couples coming should not have to pay as much for cleaning as those who occupy all rooms / beds and this is our method of providing a discount to small groups.
Guest Access to the house and keys is either via a LockBox or by meeting you at the door. Your check in instructions and our dialog will determine which method.
Other things to note
Please read our house rules here on AirBnB. You must agree to these rules within 48 hours of booking via an online electronic “I Agree” statement back to us that you agree that your stay is bound by these house rules. We do this in leu of a written contract, we are happy to provide a written copy upon request.
PETS: are only welcome if we discuss them in advance of booking your trip for our approval, including their type, weight (we allow under 50 pounds almost always, but ask us if larger), age (No puppies or cats ever!) and number of pets (generally we allow 1, but if they are very small maybe two if they already live together), always with an added fee per pet, agreement to use a pet crate if you ever leave them in the house and always let me know if you plan to bring one in advance of booking. Pets are not allowed on or in beds or on furniture.
GUEST COUNT : When you book with us we will ask you your guest count, this is then used for COVID-19 awareness and cleaning planning. You can not change or add guests without notifying us for approval. We reserve the right to not approve an increasing guest count prior to the trip, and we reserve the right to stop your trip if your guest count increases without asking our permission first. We hope you understand, but we do not just turn our cabin over, we require communication prior to guests being added regardless of the cabin’s potential for more guests.
THE CABIN IS IN THE MOUNTAINS: On a secondary mountain road. The approach to the cabin means that you are comfortable driving a road in the woods, including driving up and down small roads. We have had over 3000 successful stays to our cabins on your Cabin's road with zero incidents, but its not like driving a suburban city street in Raleigh or Charlotte. Take your time, drive slowly, you should be fine. We do not permit motorcycles at this cabin due the grade of the road based on past experiences. Please ask about our other cabins if traveling by motorcycle..
WINTER - Snow & ice are conditions you may find December 1 through March 31st we provide a shovel and a limited amount of rock salt at the cabin. Are you prepared for Snow and Ice for you, all guests, and your car is a question you must ask yourself when visiting us during the winter. We can’t forecast the weather, nor can we make it stop if it starts :-). Hence you need to be certain you can take care of yourselves and car (snowchains, or AWD, or 4x4 are the best options). In the event of a winter storm during your stay we will instruct you on where your vehicles will be placed for your safety, this may involve a short walk from that location to the cabin door. In general snow fall is light and usually melts the next day. Most of the gravel road is county maintained and thus cleared, however the last .5 miles up to the cabins is in a private neighborhood where snow removal is a group, best can do, best effort basis. We live on the same road as your cabin and drive during all snow conditions in and out of the same roads all the time, and we are used to snow. The winter months are wonderful months in Blowing Rock, great for a fire, some out door hiking, tubing, skiing and hot tubing, pls be vigilante on the weather as its usually in a forecast, and you can put yourselves and your cars in the right places for total success.
PREPARATION : Guests are strongly recommended to arrive prepared for winter weather in their personal physical condition, clothing choices and automobile choices. Our cabins are located on secondary mountain roads which means that when weather strikes we will evaluate the incoming weather in order to assure your safety and the safety of our cabins. This means we may recommend alternative parking area and a short walk to the cabin.
OUR HOUSE RULES : Our House Rules can be found here on line by clicking through the house rules section at the bottom of the listing, are available upon request, and are printed out in our cabin notebook. We've tried to make our rules practical to preserve your trip and our cabin. We operate "one and done" with zero warnings or permissible house rule violations. All rule violations are considered grounds for immediate cessation of your trip without refund.
LICENSE : We are providing you a License to use our Cabin similar to that of renting a car, as a licensee you are bound to the cabin rules at all times, and you forgo the rights of a "lease" or "tenant". Violations of our cabin rules can result in your immediate removal from our cabin, by renting our cabin you agree to these terms. If you'd like a full copy of the license please let us know in advance and one will be provided to you.
FIREPLACE: Cabin is equipped with a gas fireplace, with an automatic timer panel to control the fireplace. We’re here for support on fireplace use as needed.
WIFI - Its Satellite based. That means it has a delay and is not ideal for 2 way or streaming communication such ZOOM or Netflix. Second, it means that during a storm the weather can cloud out the connection and your WiFi may degrade. Most guests have found it great, streaming is possible if the weather is good, but at times it still does not work due to the unpredictable nature of over the air, so if its a huge requirement to stream video then we may not be the cabin for you, that said we’ve had guests work, game and play in our cabin with out issue, but we do point this out as there are no buried cables or fiber on our remote properties.
