The space

Granted, the studio is not big. But it is cozy and everything you need is right there. AND you have privacy: your own entrance, your own en-suite bathroom. There is wifi, and the maid cleans your room Monday through Saturday (for a small fee she will also do your laundry). You have no kitchen, but there is a coffee and tea maker in your room, and we'll bring you fresh fruit and bread every day. There are also plenty of restaurants in all price ranges in the area. There is even one in the building!
The studio is on the 6th floor (elevator) of a landmark building in the very heart of Mexico City. The historic center was declared a World Heritage Site in 1991. The Zocalo (main square with cathedral, National Palace and the Aztec Templo Mayor ruins) is just a few steps away. So is the MUNAL (national art gallery), Bellas Artes (the opera house) and the Alameda (historic city park) - a great place to jog in the mornings. And the area abounds with cafés, restaurant, bars and great shops.
Petra, the owner, lives in building. She will interact with you as little or as much as you want. She speaks English, German, Spanish and French and will happily share her wealth of information about Mexico, Mexico City and the historic center in particular. Petra can also help arrange tours and excursions.
The Allende subway station around the corner. So are stops for major public bus lines, incl. the hop-on hop-off turibus.

Other things to note

The building has 24-hour security.
There is a USD20 fee for check-in/out between 9 pm and 9 am and on Sundays and official Mexican holidays.

Petra's accommodations provide excellent value in a wonderful location close to the heart of Mexico City. The private room with its adjoining bathroom provides everything that you might need, and then some. In addition to the comfortable bed, work table, and shower essentials, there are loaner items available, like hats and umbrellas. Petra is also quite generous with what she provides for breakfast items, and is on hand to help with logistical matters. I highly recommend this place for the solo traveler.

Great place, small but it has ALL you need for a comfortable stay. It has double windows so close it and it will be quiet, its centric, they even provide shampoo, body wash, fresh sugar bread and fruit every day. There is a heater and a fan in case you need them, but the temperature is perfect. The building is nice and clean and the flat too. Friendly staff and good conversations.

This B&B is the perfect location for a stay in El Centro Historico. Everything is within easy walking distance. Petra was very helpful and has a great binder with information on places to see and local services and restaurants. In a gated building - very safe.Highly recommend for the single traveler. Also had a great shower where the water stays hot.

I selected Petra’s listing solely due to the great reviews from solo female travelers, the proximity to major landmarks, and the awesome value. The reviews reflected my actual experience: assistance from Renate answering all my questions before my trip, Esperanza bakery & fresh fruits daily by Cecilia / Nicole, Petra’s quick communication with any of my questions during my 4 day trip, friendly security guard(s) always on the lookout, a clean + safe + secured building in the heart of the city. I’m a 20-something female (petite) traveler: took the metro at 8AM, took the Uber, hailed a taxi, took the local bus, walked from 8am to 9pm. The location made it easy for me to take any type of transportation, go to the best restaurants / bakeries / shopping stores by foot. Any questions on safety, I emailed Renate and/or walked over to Petra’s apartment for advice. The disappointment I had was when I was about to leave to the airport, when I realized that my 13-hour days resulted to less time getting to know Petra’s story. A journalist for years, from Germany, lived in ~8 countries, an author of a Mexico travel book (she added her building on the page!) – what a woman. Her apartment (steps away from my rented studio) reflected a piece of what I saw in her (and reflected the gem of Mexico City) – full of intellect, design, charm – and something you want to know more of. I came to her with questions and she gave me a thoughtful guide on the city. But what I took from that is more than that. It was encountering with a genuine, compassionate, and inspiring human being – even for the short 4 days. It was enough for me to appreciate the city as a solo female traveler & she is a huge part in connecting all the dots for me. This experience has taught me to look at inspiring reviews from the AirBnB host, something beyond a photo of an apartment listing. I come out of this inspired. And I thank Petra, an extraordinary superhost. She is a remarkable woman. Muchos gracias, Petra.
