Maala is the BEST. From the moment I met her to the moment I left I experienced her friendly and informative hosting. But more importantly, Maala treats you like family. She is genuine and interesting and seems to really enjoy conversing with and caring for her guests. A stay at Maala's house means an authentic and enriching Abu Dhabi experience. Maala is very knowledgeable about the city in which she lives and keeps various brochures and info around for interested guests. She offers to pick up her guests from the airport for a very reasonable fee. (She was also super patient when my flight arrived at the airport more than an hour later than its scheduled arrival time.) Maala's apartment is in a neighborhood that was easy to get around, with nearby conveniences and reliable, easy bus transportation. In addition, Inter-emirates buses are available at a larger bus station that is within walking distance. Maala was very generous with the food and snacks that were in her home and liked to make sure that her guests were eating well. I would triple recommend a stay at Maala's place to anyone who wants a genuine host and a fulfilling Abu Dhabi experience.
Maalla was very hospitable, she picked us up from the bus station (conveniently near her house) and we prepared a light dinner together.
The place is great for coming in and out from Dubai by bus. The city is pretty spaced out, so expect to take cabs or buses if you have needs in different areas, regardless of where you stay.
The place itself is clean and a basic two bedroom, one bath apartment. Maalla was really kind and open, making us breakfast two mornings, dropping us at the mosque on her way to work, and taking us to the date market and Saadiyat Island later. She had lots of advice for possible itineraries and even provided us with abayas to wear at the mosque (one of which I accidentally took with me that I had to leave with a friend in Dubai).
We also took Maalla out to traditional Emirati restaurant the last night, which was nice.
We had a short and interesting stay, this is a great option for someone who wants basic accommodations with a really personal experience. Thanks Maalla!
Maala was a very gracious host and a great ambassador! She made us feel welcome from the moment she picked us up at the airport: the late night tour of the Grand Mosque on the way to her place was great. When we arrived at her home we found our private room with lock and key was full of booklets and brochures about things to do in Abu Dhabi. After we settled in, we had great conversations (everything under the sun) over coffee, cheese and assorted snacks. Maala worked on our second day but left items on the counter for us to prepare a light meal to get us started for the day.On her off days Maala spent we toured and had a picnic on Saadiyat Island. I particularly enjoyed the openness of conversation about life in the UAE. My mom says " It was an experience that was educational as well as peaceful and relaxing. Maala and my mom seemed to bond from the very beginning and it seemed as though they had known each other previously. MY mom now feels she has a sister in another land and both of us looks forward to visiting with Maala again. Maala's strong desire to make sure we had a great experience was exhibited when Maala insisted on spending time with us on a day that Maala was not feeling her best. There is so much to say; I will end by saying that a stay with Maala will not be regretted!!!!!!!
Maala was a fantastic host. Extremely friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. Dan and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Maala and Abdullah and would advise anyone looking for a fantastic authentic experience to stay with them!
I had the most amazing time with Malaa - an absolutely vibrant woman. She taught me a lot about Arabic culture & life in general. Her place is lovely and warm, I couldn't have had a better introduction to Abu Dhabi & the Middle East! I can't wait to come back! Thank you so much Malaa!!!
Thank you so much Maala. Even if it was only for 2 nights, it was so good. We had a great time and because of Maala we got a lot of good information about VAE and Abu Dhabi. Maala took great care of us, even organized a car rental with her own driver license. Because of her we could have a very interesting visit at the big mosque of abu dhabi. The place is clean and maala cooks, informs, shuttles and answers every question. we hope to meet her in germany and want to come back to abu dhabi soon. we can only recommend maala!
Maala was a terrific host. And probably the most convenient place to stay in all of Abu Dhabi. The tours she offers is a great deal. She educated me a lot about her country and culture. I would most definitely like to return. There was so much to do and not enough time. I really hope to return. Thank you Maala.
