Glamp in a small RUSTIC cabin AND private 18-foot TIPI w firepit, drums. Private, fun, views! Comfy beds, SOLAR POWERED. Outdoor kitchen. No fridge, coolers (bring ice if you want). WOOD PROVIDED! Pristine, non-chemical drinking/cooking water provided. No WIFI except in main house, cells sketchy. No cleaning fee!
COVID 19: We clean surfaces well w Windex(ammonia) & vinegar/lavender on fabrics, curtains. Self check in for now.

WINTER=COLD No shower, kitchen iffy at night, can grill in tipi

The space
IF ARRIVING LATE or during COVID 19, please read “Guest Interaction" for self check in.
The small cabin sleeps 3 best, or 4 cramped! .
It can be cold at night in the tipi, too cold to sleep in, we are just under 8000 ft elevation. The bunkhouse warms up with a fire in the woodstove, but most people in winter must start another in the am. Water frozen, kitchen freezing at night, no shower or running water.

Owners are marble sculptors, Raku potters, gardners, builders of an off-grid strawbale home. They love to raft rivers, ski, fish, sea kayak, & travel in Mexico

Star gazing is the best. Crestone is 1 of 16 designated “dark sky” areas in the US. You'll hear coyotes, elk, see antelope. Possibly the quietest place you've ever stayed...kind of like a hut trip w/out having to ski in! Plus you can play cowboys & Indians...

Guest access
Bunkhouse with fully equipped screened-in OUTDOOR kitchen (drinking water dispensers w pristine non-chemical water, gas grill w burner, 2 coolers, non potable running water May-Oct for dishes and shower, paper towels, salt & pepper, plates, bowls, silverware, French Press coffee pot, coffee cups & wine glasses, can & bottle openers, cutting boards & knives, pots & pans, salad spinner, skewers, spatula, tea balls, oil lamps, dishpans & soap, fire extinguisher, first aid kit). 18 foot tipi and seasonal solar outdoor shower. OUTDOOR strawbale outhouse. If not comfy with outhouse you may use main house bathroom (only a bathtub, no shower).

Other things to note
Outdoor topless strawbale toilet with great view! It’s the pile of straw north of kitchen

Please, no smoking cigarettes in bunkhouse.

Depending on your network, cell phone service may be sketchy. WiFi calling available in owners’ house.

Please don't bring cabin blankets & pillows into the tipi. All that stuff is already in the tipi.

We’re delighted you brought Fido (s) & Fidella (s) but the extra Fido hair seems to call for a $5 cleaning tip, if you have it!

Location

Crestone, Colorado, United States

Crestone has 2 great food markets: the Crestone Mercantile (local grass-fed meat & butchers) & Elephant Cloud: health food, coffee shop for breakfast and lunch, weekend music venue.
Other eateries are Crestone Brewery, Mandala Pizza, Desert Sage, Our Food Is Art, for lunch and dinner, plus Bob's & the new Mystic Rose cafe for breakfast and lunch. Some days you can get awesome wood-fired pizza from Casey & Shane right at the Kiosk, at the end of the T road.
A museum with artifacts from Crestone's mining history, a PO, bank (open Monday, Wednesday, & Friday), upscale dispensary, spirits purveyor, gallery, 2 gift shops & an art supply store, a couple of thrift shops & our "world-famous free-box". A stables offers trail riding.
Our 3 NEARBY HOT SPRINGS!!!! are a huge attraction! Check out Joyful Journey, Valley View (call ahead), and Sand Dunes Rec Pool online. We highly recommend all three! But if you visit the Dunes, a stop at Sand Dunes Swimming Pool is mandatory. Their Greenhouse section, adults only, has a bar with great tapas menu.
Any healing modality under the sun is available in Crestone: massage; holistic medicine; energy work; Tarot; Tibetan bowl healing; 4-5 yoga diciplines; acupuncture; Rolfing; Chi Gong, Tai Chi, African dance classes, Capoeira sometimes.
Visit a Buddhist temple.. Crestone has 18 different religious centers, mainly Buddhist. Crestone even has it's own Matrix Interdimensional Light Chamber!
Meditate at one of our Stupas, attend a full or new moon fire ceremony at our Hindu Haidakhandi Ashram, or get Jyorei at our Shinto Buddhist center, Shumei.
Crestone is known for its high spiritual vibration and vortex. A little bit of exploring will elevate your chakras!

Hike our high mountain trails, mountain bike, climb a 14er. Check out our Saturday Market for treasures, baked goods & veggies, from May-October.
A short walk will get you to the Native American huts, the Ziggurat (a Zoraster monument), or one of our beautiful Buddhist Stupas.
Check out the Alligator Farm or Alien Viewing Platform, each about 40 minutes away.

We are very into sustainability. We built our solar powered strawbale home ourselves, and have 1 above ground greenhouse and 3 Walapinis (underground greenhouses, the big one is still in progress) where we grow organic veggies, soon hopefully year round! After living in ski areas most of our lives, we wanted to go the opposite direction from trophy homes. Feel free to check out our greenhouses & eat a radish or grab some greens for your dinner!

During your stay
Hosts can answer questions, text or call, or we’ll meet the next day - pretty simple to figure out the ropes, so if you arrive late and we are asleep, here are the few things to know:

1) There's an inverter box and battery on the floor, on the left as you enter the cabin. If you turn it on & a green light shows, you'll have light from an LED light downstairs, IF the sun charged the battery that day. Presumably you can charge phones there.
2) LED light in loft
3) The Luci light (portable solar light) is on the dresser. If you need to recharge it in the morning for the next night, expose the small panels to the sun, but if put outside it will blow away.
4). In the kitchen, there are 2 propane lanterns, & you can bring the Luci light.
5). Lots of candles everywhere
6) Some people like to grill in the tipi in the winter, a grill is provided there. Or a combo with the kitchen gas grill.
7) Opening curtains in sun & closing them at night is warmest

8)There will be wood in the cabin and tipi, SMALLER PIECES OF WOOD WORK BETTER , so there's a hatchet to split wood. Bigger pieces cause too much smoke.
9) In case of very high wind (mainly in spring when snow is on the mountains), pls don’t start a fire in the cabin, or you will be smoked out!
