We offer a country setting in the heart of Castro Valley. If you're looking for a great value you've found it!

Just a short walk to the corner market and the Village Shopping Center, nice shops and restaurants. The local movie theater is just a few blocks away and so is Lake Chabot Regional Park (great hiking/biking trails, kayak, paddle boats and fishing). Within 15 minutes, in several different directions are the Japanese Gardens (a wonderful place) + 3 really nice golf courses and the Oakland Zoo.

Easy access to 580 and 880 Freeways, public transportation is just a block away and the BART station is about a mile away. Only a 20 minute drive to San Francisco (of course on a mild traffic day) PLEASE NOTE... if you are driving into the city of San Francisco during commute hours it can take much longer! Oakland Airport is about 15 minutes from us.

Your fully furnished room over looks the front garden, you'll enjoy your own small fireplace, wi-fi, mini fridge, microwave, work/eat space semi-private entrance and a shared bathroom. The family room and laundry are available for your use. Family style Breakfast and Dinner's are included during your stay or you can be on your own, there are wonderful restaurants in the Bay Area and several healthy markets close by.

Feel free to dine with us, eat out or you can grab your meal and bring it home. If you prefer to eat in, your room has its own mini-fridge and you're welcome to use the microwave and tea/coffee station in the main kitchen.

Your stay includes a welcome basket of seasonal fruits, organic snacks and a coffee/tea station. Help yourself to seasonal fruit and vegetables from our property too! (Apples, oranges, lemons, figs, plums, apricots, persimmons, pomegranates, tomatoes, peas,chard...)

We love animals (two large but friendly dogs, 11 hens and 1 cat) but don't worry they don't all live in the house.

We may also be able to offer shuttle service to and from the Oakland Airport (especially helpful if you will be using public transportation while you're here).

Hope to see you soon!
Frankie, Savannah & Collin :)

Guest access

As a guest you will have access to the family and dining room, laundry room and front and side yard. Please feel free to enjoy the back yard and gardens.

There are no cooking privileges in the main kitchen - we ask that you leave the cooking to us. However, feel free to dine with us, eat out or you can grab your meal and bring it home. If you prefer to eat in, your room has its own mini-fridge and you're welcome to use the microwave and tea/coffee station in the main kitchen.

Interaction with guests

We're always available for our guests. :)

We do ask that you let us know as soon as possible if there is anything to help make your stay more comfortable. We do our very best to make that happen!

The neighborhood

The neighborhood is safe, clean and centrally located.

There is an old school market at the corner complete with fresh bread, a meat and deli counter and a nice selection of fruits, vegetables and refreshments (including an extensive wine selection). The new Lake Chabot Public Market is just a couple blocks away offering a unique dining experience and foods.

Lake Chabot about 1.5 miles with beautiful trails, boat rentals, fishing and picnic areas.

If you want to enjoy a little golf we've got that about a mile the other direction as well as the Japanese Gardens about 2 miles south.

You will have street parking which is just outside your room.

Getting around

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is within walking distance - about 1 mile, buses are just a couple blocks in either direction and you can always rent a car at SFO or OAK international airports. If you need a lift we've been known to drop you off too.

Other things to note

We do clean ALL rooms weekly and ask that you plan on being out and about (not on the property) for approximately 2 hours. We will schedule this with you prior to your reservation - usually this is done when you plan on being out of the home.

Shared bathrooms are cleaned daily!

We do practice water conservation in our home and on the property... Shower water is collected (while you're waiting for the water to warm up) and is used to flush the toilets and water the yard - all I ask you to do is collect the water and I empty the bucket. We ask that you leave the dish washing to us to help conserve water and the laundry has a gray water system - we provide the bio-degradable laundry detergent.

The TV in your room provides access to Netflix only.

We are happy to have you as our guest!

We do have a few house rules to help everyone feel comfortable and welcome.

If you use the common areas please help keep them clean. Your personal belongings need to be kept in your room.

For stays more than 2 days we ask that you unpack and put your belongings in the closet. This not only helps to keep the room clean and accessible but minimizes the damage to the walls from luggage.

We do clean ALL rooms weekly and ask that you plan on being out and about (not on the property) for approximately 3 hours. We will schedule this with you prior to your checking in. We do ask that you use the fridge and storage in your room for your personal food items.

We have varied schedules so we keep the noise (tv's, music...) to a minimum after 9:00pm and ask that you do as well. PLEASE, no speaker phone conversations.

We have awesome neighbors...Please respect them and our neighborhood.

You must also acknowledge
Dog(s), cat(s), and other pet(s) lives in the house

The room was just what I needed. The host is amazing and the family is awesome. The food was very good, healthy and plentiful. I was treated as a family member but with priority as it relates to the first to get food, using the bathroom. They are very accomodating. I recommend this room as a must stay. I will definitely be stating with Frankie and her family again.

Frankie's house is beautiful! The room is so comfortable, clean and well stocked (there were snacks, it was wonderful). They were so welcoming and friendly. The food was amazing and made life so much easier. The neighborhood was very safe and quiet. The BART station, grocery store and lake chabot were all quick bike rides away. I only wish I could have stayed longer!

My girlfriend and I stayed in Frankie's for more than 3 months and we feel like we were treated as part of the family. Frankie and Savannah helped us in various ways from every aspect. I cannot express how wonderful is my first Airbnb experience in CA. Met so many people from all around the world. Marco, Andrea, Mark to name a few. You can't be happier when you see your name on the breakfast baggy every day and dinner ready on the table every night. Thank you ! Frankie and Savannah for everything. Laia and I will come back to visit you guys next year for sure ! And ... thanks for the cool bag !!!

It was fantastic to have the opportunity to stay at Frankie's again. This time I was in the "Country Living" bedroom & I loved it. In my experience, Frankie's listings have been 100% accurate & the pictures are true to life. The neighborhood is a good residential one, but Frankie has created a private oasis behind the fence/trees&garden. For such a busy person, it's tremendous how Frankie's warm welcome makes you feel as if you are the only important thing on her plate!! Speaking of plate....the food is delicious! Healthy, fresh, plentiful w/tasteful, thoughtful touches everywhere. The dogs are an extra bonus. Well-behaved, clean and great to interact with, if you want to, and I did.

Frankie's place is exceptional in so many ways -- and I've used Airbnb for many years in many cities and different countries (not only through this account) for business trips and pleasure. Frankie really has a special knack at providing what travelers needs to feel relaxed and welcome in her home. There is a lovely extended family sharing the large home with obvious kindness and care for each other. The vibe of the house is completely welcoming, and yet also organized to maintain as much privacy as you'd like. There are 2 big lazy and friendly dogs and a very friendly cat who comes in from outside now and then -- but not into the sleeping areas. The parking was easy, house spacious and clean, linens were clean, and the room was stocked with amenities and snacks. --large closet, mini fridge, microwave, TV. A really nice bonus is Frankie will cook you a healthy, abundant, and delicious breakfast AND dinner AND do all the dishes! I mean really, what more could you ask for? Frankie really is superwoman, with endless projects and a beautiful garden bursting with fruit trees, veggies, egg-laying chickens. She "get's it" what hospitality is all about -- something sadly lacking from too many Airbnb "hosts" these days who section off common spaces and turn every inch of what had previously been rental homes into money-making machines with little regard for travel hospitality standards or tenants' rights. As a long-time tenant of the Bay Area, I don't like how Airbnb has disrupted the local rental market this way in the name of greed -- but I'm very happy to come upon someone who still exemplifies what Airbnb is at its best -- which is when folks rent out rooms in their own homes at a fair and reasonable rate and share the genuine spirit of a BnB local hospitality that supplements the rental market rather than squeezing the housing market in an already difficult area to find a home. Thank you Frankie for showing how it's done!

I feel extremely fortunate to be able to combine my passions; helping people, creativity through my concrete artistry, animals, gardening and permaculture. I love creating spaces that encourage relaxation, personal growth and enjoyment of simple yet delicious meals.

My enthusiasm for helping people has been a culmination of 25 + years in the financial world of non-profit organizations, a volunteer builder for Habitat for Humanity and serving on the Board of Directors for numerous non-profit organizations.

I am able to live and express my passions by renting rooms in my home to travelers in the San Francisco Bay Area. This started in 2009 ago when I worked at CHENG Concrete in Berkeley, CA - we had trainees needing a place to stay. I thought "when I grow up I'd like to have a BnB - this is a great opportunity to try it out." I was right! I love meeting new people from all over the world. For several years (starting in 2009) we (Daughter, Son + Me) enjoyed the company of about 2 dozen trainees, then we decided to take it to the next level with Airbnb in 2011 and here we are. Since we started hosting on Airbnb we have had the pleasure of 175+ guests, some for one night and others for months. Some guests are here for vacations, some just want to "get away from the city life" for a weekend, some are relocating for career changes and others are here on business.

We enjoy golf, kayaking, hiking and our animals. I love concrete and making some really cool art! I also love cooking and my kids and now my guests enjoy eating it :) I enjoy any music or movies that move or inspire me.

As a host we want you to be comfortable in our home! So whether you want to hang out with us or go out on your own its up to you... just let us know what your style is.

We love being in the Bay Area - there is so much to do and see plus the weather is awesome!

I truly believe in living simply, so others can simply live.

I hope to host you soon,
Frankie :)
