Interaction with Guests
This is my home, and I work a four-day week job, Monday to Thursday. I always try to be available to meet my guests on arrival, and if I am not available, I will make sure you are properly welcomed by a very nice person! You will have plenty of privacy at my home, but be able to avail of a friendly helping hand to offer advice on any aspect of your visit. I know Dublin City like the back of my hand! I am able to be especially helpful to any guests interested in Art, and who would like to visit galleries in Dublin, and have a fair sense of the music scene too.
You will have all that Dublin has to offer nearby when you stay with me, with excellent public transport, or the choice to take a 20-minute walk into the city for those who are so inclined. This means you have access to the hundreds of restaurants, cafes, galleries, theatres, music venues and shops Dublin city provides.
In the other direction from the City Centre is a large park with a playground. Further along is Dublin Bay with safe walking and cycle paths leading to the beach. You can take a bus to the beach if you prefer, and it is about 15 minutes away. There are more beaches further along this coastline, and some beautiful harbour villages and stunning cliff walks – all within a short distance from my home.
The North Strand area itself is an old settled neighbourhood of narrow streets with quaint terraced cottages. It is a very quiet and unpretentious part of Dublin city, and Strandville Avenue consists mainly of owner-occupiers, many of whom have lived on the street for decades.
The house is close to all public transport systems, including the AirLink bus. Nearby are trains, trams and buses for travel within the city, or to any other parts of Ireland. There is free on-street parking.
Other Things to Note
On confirmation all guest receive a 1000 word document with lots of hints and tips, including the best way to get to the house from the airport. For those who are friends of Bill & Bob, I will provide all the information they need in the Dublin area and beyond.
- No loud noise, including long late night showers as that is noisy
- I do not charge a utility fee, so please remember that hot water is expensive in Ireland
- No pets
- No smoking
Often I will be working the next day, so guests are asked to be considerate and not make noise after 11pm that might keep me awake.
Unfortunately, we weren't able to meet Paula on our trip as she had another arrangement those days. She did send her son to let us in and fill us in on everything. She left tons of maps and information packages for us. The BnB was very nice and clean. Paula allowed us free access to her kitchen and washer which we took some advantage of. The BnB was close to a set of train tracks, but the noise wasn't too bad. Despite not being around, Paula was very easy to get in touch with and was quick to respond to all our concerns. We had a wonderful time and would book again in a heartbeat.
Paula was a really great host! I had a wonderful and relaxing stay at Paula's place. The house was clean. It's just as described, excellent location and very quiet and calm inside. Very spacious and the bed was comfortable. I loved my stay here and I'll recommend it definitely!
Absolutely wonderful host. Paula was very kind and helpful, with customized maps of Dublin for us, and was always there with tips and advice if needed.
The futon was smaller than we though, but we made do - I wouldn't count on anyone tall sleeping on it though!
Hi Kyle. I'm so sorry – I didn't know you wanted to use the futon!!! I would have made it up for you. I have a trick to make it a bit longer, but you're absolutely right, it's not very long for a tall person. I must put that in my information so people know before they arrive. Thanks for the feedback, and thanks for staying with me.
Paula's property was beautiful - the room was warm, comfy and welcoming - with a homemade guide to Dublin which made our stay very easy.
Would thoroughly recommend anyone planning to stay in Dublin - the city centre was a ten minute walk away, with buses a few minutes away if you're feeling lazy.
I am sorry to read your comment that there was not enough room for guest clothes in the guest room. When you asked to book the room, I told you there was not much room for guest clothes, as it is usually a short-stay room (you will see that on your message history). I even suggested you find another place more suited to your long-stay, but you assured me it would be okay. In the end, because I was away in Australia, you had two bedrooms for the same price as one – and the whole house to yourselves!
I just need to clarify this point for my reputation, as I had been very clear and honest about this right from the start. I am always happy to hear how I can improve the experience if it is something I have not though of – like the lovely mat you bought for inside the back door!
Paula is a very good person. She give us everything we needed. She helped us also for the place where we could eat and the place that we could see. Her home is very nice, perfect. We found all things there. There was clean and hospitable! I want to thank a lot to Paula for this wonderful experience!
About the Host, Paula
I'm mother to a 25-year-old who has flown the nest, and I work full-time as Art Director of a small publishing group. Going to work for me is easy because I love it.
My hobby is photography. I love is to go to art and photography exhibitions here and abroad. For guests interested in art, I am happy to make suggestions for exhibitions and galleries they might enjoy – depending on their individual tastes.
When my son left home and his room was available, I played host to many friends when they came to Dublin. I found I enjoyed having people coming and going through my home. This is why I decided to join Airbnb as a host. Because I have travelled a lot myself, I have an instinct for what makes a person more comfortable when they are away from their own home. I enjoy making sure people are relaxed, and being able to answer any questions they might have.
I have stayed as an Airbnb guest in Venice, Italy and in Wexford in Ireland, and enjoyed both experiences. What I liked most was each host gave us great tips about local events, and the best places to go. I think this is what makes Airbnb better than a hotel.
I am a coffee person, so you can be sure of a good strong coffee at my home, or a perfect cup of tea. I am happy for guests to use my kitchen to prepare breakfast, and for tea and coffee.
I love Dublin very much, and love living here. I hope when people stay with me, they leave with a bit of that love in their hearts. As a host I am relaxed, and hope I am warm and welcoming. I understand people need their privacy, so will always make sure not to intrude, but yet be available.
